Yeah, also not in love with how it sounds, particularly the drums. But if the album is solid, I don't see it being a deal breaker. First album was really good and I like this song. Let's wait and see. Competition is fierce this year, tho. Having Kevin Paradis on drums was a good move, the guy is a beast and is becoming a very requested drummer. Not that the previous dude was a slouch by any means.

About Jamie and his take on Drastus... He's very candid talking about really enjoying modern metal music done by some of his peers. I remember reading interviews with him where he talks about several other bands he enjoys. I find that so rare and quite refreshing.
Most metal musicians seem to have lost interest in metal as a genre, aside from the metal they grew up with. It's either the "we don't want to be influenced by other bands", or "you don't have burgers for dinner if you work at Mcdonalds" kind of thing. Then you have bands like Opeth, that don't have it in them (him) anymore, and just become a different band.
Anyway, I digress...

Khariot seems to be in the style, but something about it doesn't work for me. The structure breaks down in the same "controlled chaos" kind of way, but the melody and rhythm lack the same dissociative power. It veers close to Gorguts in many of the riffs, not unlike Immoto, but it doesn't build atmosphere quite like it.

Yeah, I listened to it twice yesterday and I don't dislike it but I don't see myself listening to it a lot more.

This should definitely be good for fans of Ulsect and later Svart Crown. Thanks for the rec!

Not really that similar to Ulcerate or Nero Di Marte, but I've been following these guys for a while and like most of their stuff. Worth a listen.

Abyssal Gods was an incoherent mess and I can't stand it. That album being awful and the terrible artwork are the main reasons I didn't even bother with the Incest EP. Vile Luxury on the other hand is great (even though it has a few sound problems). It took me a few listens to star enjoying it but once it clicked I've been playing it regularly.

I got to see them live recently and the blew my mind. Such a rich and vibran sound, they played most of Vile Luxury and it sounded 10x better than the album.

Another Karmacipher track.

I like this one better than the first one. Definetely an improvement over the first album.

^^ I liked the first track enough and this one is quite good as well. I'm definitely listening to the entire thing once it's out.

Stumbled upon this a few days ago... Not sure what to make of it, but it didn't have much chance to breathe yet, with Wake and Ulcerate consuming all my free time.
Thoughts?

That Karmacipher album is great!! Thanks for turning me onto it. Its the closest anything has sounded like Ulcerate and if Ulcerates last album wasn't one of their best I'd be saying Karmacipher is the new Ulcerate.

Turns out theyre just both amazing and were all double lucky.

Even though it's black metal do you think this is relevant.

Turns out Gigan are great. The covers are god-awful but they play psychedelic technical death metal or something like that. I'm pleasantly surprised.

Kudos for the Pyrrhon and Ingurgitating Oblivion res, two of some of the best modern DM bands in my opinion!

I know you said you weren't really into the cavernous stuff, but maybe give Teitanblood's latest album a listen. It's dense, dissonant, scary, and has some bone-shattering riffs.

Baring Teeth are good ulcerate/gorguts inspired Death metal as well.

Also try Sunless and John Frum, both some of my favorite disso-death bands.

If you want more black metal, check out serpent column-it's like if ulcerate went mathcore and it rules.

Anaochronism is another band that does ulcerate-inspired BDM, and they rule.

Gigan is more psychedelic disso-death, worth a listen.

IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT!!!!-disso black/death +scary jazz. Doesn't get better than that.

Bufihimat-Gorguts inspired death grind

Of course, check out Gorguts latest albums if you haven't already-modern masterpieces in my opinion.

Barús-good dissonant prog death

Ceremony of silence-another good ulcerate inspired blackened death metal band worth checking

I'm a great fan of "cavernous death metal", I just wasn't looking for that kind of stuff when I opened this thread. As a matter of fact, Teitanblood's Death may be my favourite metal album of all time. Thanks for the recommendation though!

I had completely forgotten about John Frum. I'll have to give the album another spin, I remember thinking it was cool when it came out but I forgot about it quickly.

Not a great fan of Serpent Column bur Imperial Triumphant are great. I got Alphaville in the mail today.

I'll check Ceremony of Silence and Bufihimat. Thanks.

I forgot about this thread and I have to say I'm really enjoying that Ceremony of Silence album that was recommended a while back. The ending of this song is incredible:

Oh cool. I'll check this out. I loved Weeping Sores, also a Pyrrhon side project that had a killer album produced by Greg Chandler maybe two years ago. I'd heard of Seputus but never really checked it.

Just check the channel OdiumNostrum, if there's one place that will 100% have something that you're looking for, it's that channel.
