So i came across this Goth V.A. CD about Songs dedicated to storys by Poe. I'm a sucker for old horror literature and atmosphere/music themed in that regard. I know Lovecraft gets a lot of tribute in music (even whole bands dedicate themself to him like The Great olf Ones). But what about Poe? I actually never heard a band or single songs dedicated to his storys (or i have overlooked it). Do you guys can recommend something?

https://www.metal-archives.com/search?s ... song_title <-I didnt go checking them one by one, but I'm fairly confident they're all based on the poem :)

you might also know this little-known band:

or

basically do song title searches with story titles and you'll find lots :)

Fellow Poe fan here, those are the first songs i can think of:

Deceased's Dark Chilling Heartbeat is about Poe's novel The Tell Tale heart

Carpathian Forest's Eclipse/The Raven has lyrics taken from the namesake poem

Enforcer's Mask of Crimson Death and Opera XI's The Red Death are based on Poe's novel

I suspect no one's going to talk about these couple of songs by Butterfly temple, so I'll just go ahead a post them:

Hymn. Lyrics taken directly form Hymn.

Abscent. Lyrics taken directly from Fairy-Land

Both from their debut album Veles.

I know they're not exactly inspired in horror stories but I think they're worth mentioning since those are definitely a different take on Poe's work. Not many people seem to care about his poetry.

. This song is about the raven

The second one is also about the raven too I think. As you notice in the video the protagonist is writing the lyrics on the song. It's "The adaptation" of music videos.

I totaly dig these, thanks for posting them. I completely agree with you about your statement on his poetry vs his stories, he inspired a number of genres including but not limited to Science Finction, Fantasy, Gothic Horror and even Sherlock Holmes. Truly a ranged and intelligent man, who also distrusted the government and was not shy about letting his opinions be known.

Coincidentally, I made a small list of Poe-inspired tracks years ago. I'll drop whatever hasn't been listed so far.

there's a full Spanish Avantasia-style metal opera based on Edgar Allen Poe's life. Literally named "Edgar Allan Poe." The lyrics are all in Spanish and it doesn't really have the horror vibe. It was supposed to be a trilogy but that never got off the ground. I was a fan of this back in the day and looking it up for this thread now, apparently they finished and released the other two parts recently. Interesting...

Also there's
Riot - Buried Alive (Tell Tale Heart)
Malice - No Haven for the Raven
Stormwitch - The House of Usher
Aloha - The Pit and the Pendulum
Annihilator - Ligeia
Cloven Hoof - Premature Burial

Manilla Road’s 1987 album “Mystification” is full of songs based on Poe’s work. Haunting epic US power metal with a healthy dose of thrash. Great stuff.

Grave Digger's The Grave Digger album, from 2001, has several songs inspired by Poe (The Raven, Scythe of Time, The House and Haunted Palace). They're a German power metal band on the harsher end of the spectrum for the genre.

The funeral doom metal band Ahab has a concept album called The Giant, which is based upon Poe's novel The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket.
