I've been really getting into Ildjarn and Elder lately. Odd combo but I love how free-form their sounds' feel. I already know about Krieg and Liquid Tension Experiment but are there any other great improv metal bands out there or at least any that sound improvised? Thanks in advance.

Late Lugubrum descended into this weird kind of Jazz-Black metal and use a lot of improvisation. If i remember well their most experimental album De Ware Hond was fully improvised

Uh, in terms of weird ass metal: a lot of Jute Gyte's later material (albums like Vast Chains) use heavily improvisation along microtonality and crazy Sonic Youth-like tunings... It's kinda a cloud of flies the first time you hear it, but i've grown to like some albums a lot!

Murmuüre
Quote:
All the Murmuüre material is based on a one hour guitar improvisation from November 2006. The selected parts were then further edited to fit a rythmic structure, and merged with additional layers of sound.

Sounds like Coil gone black metal, a fantastic record if that's your kinda thing.

There's also the 2008 live collab between Asunder and Corrupted, an hour-and-a-half long funeral doom/sludge/drone improv.

On the chiller side, there's Thy Sinister Bloom's bluesy, psychedelic doom. Sounds like a super laid back jam session.

What you're looking for is Mastery.

Someone on this site introduced them to me years back and they are freaking amazing. They're basically just insane improv-black metal, like a black metal "jam band".

Just so talented and completely chaotic, i'm surprised they aren't more well known.

Let me know what you think: https://youtu.be/SjXnESBAMq4

Moenen of Xezbeth said in an interview that their music is improvised. I think they do well though....

Excellent recommendation, Thy Sinister Bloom were a true rarity in the whole 90's atmo-doom sound. They made me think of Anathema's "Pentecost III" crossed with The 3rd and the Mortal's more ethereal vibes. Really dreamy stuff.

Astral Sleep released an EP called 'Subconsciousnesslesskoe' that could be summed up as a doom jam EP.

Aural Hex are a very proggy, tripped out psych doom band that are quite jammy as well, though perhaps a slight bit more structured.

Whoa, that sounds amazing- but wait, I can't find any info on either band page here on the archives. If this exists I want to find it.

I'm guessing it's this one.
