I'm looking for some good heavy metal love songs, and no pop or hair metal. I mean genuine love songs, not parody, humor, songs just about sex, cheating and regrets about cheating songs, 'love you to death' murder songs, death metal/goregrind female mutilation songs, or songs like Wake Up Dead. Off the top of my head, the only ones I can think of are Nothing Else Matters and some Nightwish songs.

These three are the first that come to mind:
Spoiler: show

The first two are really good power and prog metal, but the third is by far the most emotional and heartfelt one (that whole album is, I cried when I listened to it).
I actually thought of making a thread like this myself, but you beat me to it

I want to mention a Funeral Doom bands whose only obsessive subject of inspiration is the death of the loved one. It's a very personal story that this guy carries on album after album. Really pure FD on top of it. It''s Mistress of the Dead. I suppose it won't fit at all but here's one excellent obscure FD one-man project.

An example of the lyrics he writes:

Black Sabbath - N.I.B., Solitude, She's Gone, Changes
Mercyful Fate - Melissa

This one's kind of cheating I guess, as it's not metal, and I don't know if this is attached to any particular "band" or even official "artist" name, but the dual line-up of Lordian Guard, Bill Tsamis and then-wife Vidonne Sayre-Riemenschneider recoerded Lady Vidonne. It was floating around the Internet as part of the Lordian Winds demo (but Vidonne was not a real member of Lordian Winds and the other two members of Lordian Winds beside Bill are not on the recording). It was later released as part of the Lordian Guard anthology. It doesn't sound anything like Lordian Guard though (or anything else between Warlord or Lordian Winds). But it is a beautiful song.

The Count Raven song To Love, Wherever You Are, is like a love song to a hypothetical lover the author has not found yet, don't know if that counts.

The Count Raven song Jen.... Honestly I can't tell if this song is about the author's lover or the author's child.

Pretty sure Helloween's A Tale That Wasn't Right is a love song.

Pretty sure Rainbow's Catch the Rainbow and Rainbow Eyes are love songs.

Scorpions should have a ton of them, don't know if you consider them pop metal but they are on the archives.

Tiamat's Thunder & Lightning stays on the thin line between heavy metal and goth rock and i see it as a good (but very goth!) love anthem :)

There is also Angel Witch's self titled song, but it's about an unrequited love

Do sad/tragic love songs count?

Blind Guardian - The Maiden and the Minstrel Knight
Demons and Wizards - Love's Tragedy Asunder
Chastain - Chains of Love

Early Xandria (with Lisa formerly-known-as-Middelhave) had quite a few (don't know how "pop" they'd be to you, though).

Doro also writes a lot about love, but her music is more like hard rock, IMO.

Amorphis' Summer's End and Rusty Moon could also be interpreted as being about (the darker side of) love, but then I'd say Tuonela doesn't really qualify as a metal album... awesome songs nonetheless.
