Looking for some bands that are heavily influenced by Altars of Madness from Morbid Angel. I've been obsessed with that sound lately and I need more.
The closest I could find was Degial's debut, Death's Striking Wings.
I already know of Angelcorpse, Angeldeath, Mithras, Convergence from Within, Atomic Aggresor, Diabolic, Centurion, etc.
I would prefer to hear stuff that isn't super downtuned, but it doesn't matter. Crosses between death and black metal are fine too. The atmosphere and riffs on Altars is incredible.

Not total worship, but i really see Altars's mark on Mortem's The Devil Speaks in Tongues. Great album with monstrous riffs!

It's not full on worship, but these should hit the mark especially as far as atmosphere is concerned.

Incubus - God Died on His Knees
Necrovore - Divus de Mortuus
Poison - Into the Abyss

I think Superstition might be a decent enough fit:

This one is a bit more of a stretch, but it definitely gives me the same vibes as Altars of Madness:

Taphos could also be a fit:

Mortem is one of my favorite South American death metal bands. A lot of influence from the likes of Morbid Angel and Possessed

Excoriate is some vicious death/thrash along the lines of early Morbid Angel, and Possessed.

Oraculum is some dirty death/thrash from Chile that you may like

Repugnant released one album, but it is a great one. Very much along the lines of Altars of Madness. A member of Degial whom you mentioned was also in this band

Tribulation. Only the first album is along the lines of what you are looking for. The guitarist was also in Repugnant.

Necrovation. Another from Sweden with that dirty thrashy death sound.

Centurian is one from the Netherlands

Maybe, Venenum too though this goes in a more experimental direction.

Not sure if this is quite the sound you are looking for with a lot of these, but hope you like them.

wow great list, thank you for sharing. centurian and repugnant are awesome and im for sure going to revisit them. ive seen lots of people compare mortem to morbid angel on here so ill give them a shot.
im enjoying necrovation so far and theres certainly some hints of altars laying around. deathrash recs are cool too since i find altars of madness to be morbid angel's most thrash influenced album.

Revenant might fit as well (for whatever reason I myself had them overlooked up until about a year ago)
