You should definitely look into Black Torment if you're on the market for some thrashy BM. I've only heard Satanic Holocaust so I'd suggest starting there. Some kid wrote a really mediocre review for that one, if you want to check that out.

You may also want to look into Blackhorned who I've just recently gotten into. I've only heard the newest album, and can say that it is very solid, thrashy, and yet undeniably still pure black metal. The earlier albums may actually be a bit more thrashy, as this one comes off as kind of "epic" sometimes. The sole member was the drummer for the amazing black/speed band Victimizer before they fell through.

I don't want to sound condescending but if you're just starting to get into Under the Sign you definitely want to make sure you check out Sarcofago's INRI, Root's Hell Symphony, Master's Hammer's Ritual, and Tormentor's Anno Domini. These are all amazing black metal albums with very strong influences from thrash and traditional heavy metal.

Just for the fuck of it I'd also suggest you check out Gorgoroth's "Under the Sign of Hell". It doesn't have many riffs you could point to and say "This is a thrash riff!", and yet there is something "thrashy" bubbling just under the surface that you may find interesting.

No, it's not condescending. I've heard the Sarcofago and Tormentor. I had a so-so impression of both. Decent, but for whatever reason it doesnt seem varied enough to keep my attention. Never heard the others so I'll try them. Thanks for the suggestions.

Try Forefather (uk) fantastic band, saxon black metal (with a hint of folk) with great melodies (they are not labelled as melodic black though) should be just what you are looking for especially their latested album "Steadfast", also Cryptic Wintermoon (ger), very underrated, Suidakra (ger) fantastic band, I havent herd their new album yet but it is getting rave reviews so far, the early stuff like the "The Arcanum" are full of great melodies.

Thanks!! I know and love both Suidakra and Forfather. I have Suidakra - The Arcanum, Caledonia, and their new album Crogacht, and it's their best one yet!! Forfather too is amazing!! I have Steadfast and Deep Into Time and listen to them both a lot! Cryptic Wintermoon I had not heard of and holy shit they rock!!! I'm going to get a few of their albums!! Thanks a lot!

Try Gontyna Kry's Welowie, that's the first thing that came to mind from reading your post.

Thought you would like them, I have all their cd's and they are all very good, "Of Shadows..." prob the best one. I forgot to mention Forest Of Fog (again not labelled as melodic black), but their albums are full of great melodies you might also enjoy, all their cd's are not the easiest to track down though. Also Sacramentum's "Far Away From The Sun", what an album, def worth a listen if you have never herd them, choke full of melodies and multi layered guitars, very similar style to Dissection. Check Lord Belial and Thy Serpent (early stuff) also.

Hails,

from my opinion you should check Sturmkaiser. They are very unique but also fast and brutal. Their latest album "Veni vidi vici" was one of the best in the whole year 2008 from my point of view. Also their previous ones kick ass.
I also think the best black metal music has been released in the middle of the 90s (bands you already mentioned + Marduk, Dodheimsgard, Dark Funeral, Impaled Nazarene, Lord Belial, Dark Tranquillity (before they went too melodic).
From the newer bands you could check some releases from Satanic Warmaster, Totenburg + Wolfsmond (mostly German Lyrics), Luror or Ewiges Reich.

Dodsferd is the answer mate! Misanthropic blackmetal, played fast, with a Wrath who spits blood on the microphone. I suggest checking their whole discography, but you gonna stuck on Cursing Your Will To Live and Fucking Your Creation. Their last work is a diamond, too.
Also, Bael. In the vain of Antaeus, they play like there's no tomorrow. Full of hate and wrath. Try 'em out.

Try Blut Aus Nord. Slow played blackmetal, not boring though. The Work Which Transform God is their work I stronly recommend. This band makes me travel, while listening to their music. You're going to love them.
(edit: check Blut Aus Nord thread for more infos)

I have posted here one time earlier when I looked for stuff that sounded very much like Burzum, then i got recommended a band called Vietah, which was really good and exactly what I was looking for.
Now i'm looking for the same thing again in hope for more answers :)

Anaboth's "Nie Czas Pomiotów" sounds very much like Burzum's debut. Might be hard to locate though. For a style similar to "Filosofem", check out Abyssic Hate's "Suicidal Emotions". Other Burzum inspired bands worth checking out are e.g. I Shalt Become, Raate and Sombres Forêts (especially "Quintessence").

For your first request check out I.C.E., fast black metal with vocals that are not completley undecipherable.

As for your second, check out Sadistik Exekution, Flames of Hell, Aura Noir, Sauron (US), Gehennah, Abigail, Sabbat (Jpn), and Thesyre.

Perhaps I am dumb, but I am having a very difficult time coming across any copies of Forgotten Tomb's "Songs to Leave" and "Springtime Depression". I'm pretty confident that I cannot find these albums because of their limited quantity. However, just in case, I thought I would post here to see if anyone knows where I can find these albums....

I was wondering who Judas Iscariot sounds like. I've heard lots of praise and was wondering what I'm getting myself into before I commit myself to actually buying a record or two.

I was listening to the "Primitive Finalnd" label sampler today, and I always enjoy Clandestine Blaze's "Northern Insanity". It's like dreary, dirty black metal. Harmony and crustyness at the same time. Like Craft's "Terror Propaganda" release. If anyone can suggest relatively obscure releases to check out that resemble this sound (new or old), I'd appreciate it. I say "obscure" to eliminate the Dark Throne clones. Thanks.

Not too familiar with black metal besides the more popular bands.

What are some bands that sound like these bands

Silencer (music only)

Mirrorthrone

Summoning

I guess sort of the Atmospheric Black Metal

Also is the best black metal albums thread gone? Search function isn't working for me right now.

If you like Silencer I recommend you to ty Be Persecuted, a chinese depressive black metal, which is very atmospheric, and have better vocals than silencer, IMO.

Just to bump my request a bit.

And i would like to add another request:I want some primitive, agressive and dark black metal in the south american style, like Mystifier.I have preference for pure black metal, but black/thrash like Anal Vomit and Sarcófago is ok.

Check out Ride For Revenge. Ride For Revenge is a Finnish primitive black/death type band and they happen to be one of the best of their kind. You see, whereas other such "war metal" bands play at a flesh ripping pace with a bone-crushing brutality, Ride For Revenge goes for a slower, more ritualistic sound ala Drawing Down the Moon Beherit. Not only that, but the vocalist (for the most part) does not grunt. He spends most of his time singing in a low semi-chanted moan, occasionaly venturing into a growl or grunt (and when he does do harsh vox, he has a sound similar to Vorphalack on Worship Him only a smidgeon deeper). However, just because the music is all slow and Von influenced doesn't mean that it lacks brutality. No, the riffs, slow as they might be, carry an extremley heavy and raw guitar tone that could be compred to the tone used throughout Fallen Angel Of Doom. It's very deep, heavy and there's even some bass for the listener to play artound with. I'd reccomend this band to fans of old Barathrum, Beherit, Von and Mystifier. Heavy stuff, it's just a shame that Ride For Revenge has their worst (read:least heavy) sound on their first (and currently only) full length. I'd suggest you try to get one of their demos or EPs first.

EDIT: Actually, Ride For Revenge's first full length (The King Of Snakes) is less heavy than the other albums due to a lack of an electric guitar. it's pretty much bass/drum/keys/vox combination. At least, it sounds very much like that. The other material (demos and EPs) seem to have guitar (or a second bass acting as a guitar).

Looking for black metal similar to Blood Of Kingu. Needless to mention those related Ukrainian bands, I know them, and they're not really what I'm looking for anyway (Hate Forest is almost there). What I want is dark, hopeless and extremely atmospheric black metal with fast tempos and extensive use of blastbeats. Yet, the music should have that vivid, emotional, almost depressive feeling to it. With this request I place some value on production values, but if there's nothing very well produced, I don't mind.

Darkspace comes rather close, by the way, and if you took all the suicidal stuff away from Shining's first full-length, that might be pretty close too.
Anything at all?

Hey, I'm looking for black metal with quite a bit of clean vocal use - variation between harsh and clean preferably. Can be melodic or symphonic or whatever.

Thanks.

Already have that, but thanks anyway.

Also, any recommendations for good Melodic Black metal would be cool too.

Oh, damn. Okay well try Thurisaz - Circadian Rhythm. Not pure black metal, but some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard. The clean vocals are just heavenly.

And for some good melodic black metal, you could try Arthemesia's Devs - Iratvs.

The most common answer in blackmetal help thread is Dissection :P

Actually, I don't know if I can ask it here, but I'm looking for some good music similar to Isengard's Hostmorke first 4 songs; the others are too black for my request.
