Naastrand - Chants d' Europe perhaps?

I was listening to the "Primitive Finalnd" label sampler today, and I always enjoy Clandestine Blaze's "Northern Insanity". It's like dreary, dirty black metal. Harmony and crustyness at the same time. Like Craft's "Terror Propaganda" release. If anyone can suggest relatively obscure releases to check out that resemble this sound (new or old), I'd appreciate it. I say "obscure" to eliminate the Dark Throne clones. Thanks.

Check out Vultyr.

Cool! Any specific release or their entire disco.? Thanks!

It all sounds, more or less, the same really.

I'm not really asking for any requests, just want a specific band who's name I can't goddamn remember. I'm thinking of a Malaysian black metal band that is basically the Malaysian version of the Norwegian 666. You know, formed in the really early 80's, played a few live shows, then disbanded then released their live material many years later. Last I recall, this band had one live album and one full length album, both released in the 00's.

I am looking for metal that sounds similar to Darkthrone- Snowfall.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wqL7dPcgYY

That is the song.

I want some metal with vocals that sounds like this. Anyone know some bands that play like this? It seems to be a mix of thrash, death, and some black metal riffing, although I was told to post this in the bm help thread.

Can anyone recommend me some good suicidal BM? I know the obvious ones like Silencer, Xasthur, Shining etc. I'm looking for more unknown ones.

Urfaust, Circle of Ouroborus, Austere, Lyrinx, Nyktalgia, Sterbend, Wigrid, Funeral Mourning, Be Persecuted, Beatrik, Strid, Abyssic Hate, Anti, Défaillance, Taarma, Sombres Forêts, Niflheim (Can)/Gris, Forgotten Tomb, Make a Change..., Lifelover, Sad, Trist (Cze), Deep-pression, Hypothermia, Life is Pain.

Well the first two I've listed aren't depressive/suicidal in the normal since of the genre tag, but they are better than most who are.

Looking for something complex and melodic, preferably without the rough "kvlt" sound. Mabeye something along the lines of emperor or abigail williams.

Not the biggest fan of the style and I'm not sure what your threshold of tolerance for rawness is, but maybe you'll like other symphonic black metal bands. Try Obtained Enslavement, Sirius, or Anorexia Nervosa.

Also try Ne Obliviscaris.

Well, I'm not the biggest fan of suicidal black metal (I don't like it at all, really), but I'm going to try, goddamnit! There is a band called Tearstained. It's a one man black metal outfit. The first three albums focused entirely on suicidal and depressive themes. The music contained within was damn near perfect. Seriously, they had everything I love about 80's metal. The perfect blend of oldschool power, trad, thrash and black metal (with a few dashes of doom thrown in here and there). The vox would range from Bathory inspired growls to those signature celtic frost grunts to King Diamond-esque falsettos. Falsettos! How often do you hear those in modern black metal? Probably never 9and, to be honest, that's probably a good thing). The riffs never failed to be great and thrashy, the drumming worked well for machine (?) drumming and even the synth work was good, never straying too far into the realm of overblown cheesy-ness. However, despite all of this, the three albums never failed to create a depressing atmosphere. Even when the music was thrashing at 100% metal-fury there was a general feeling of hopeless-ness that went with the music. Of course, this kind of shit isn't for everyone. Modern black metal fans might not like the fact that some of the songs lack harsh vocalls or the use of more trad-metal styled riffing, but if you can get into the older world of metal I'm sure you'll love it. I would recommend you start with Final Thoughts. it's Tearstained's best album, combing the greatest amount of old-school metal together into a complete package while still fleshing out each of those styles properly.

Really, all of Tearstained's albums have been good. Mikael Bayusik has yet to put out an album that has bored me in the least (except for that Shadowcaster nonsense, but that doesn't count).

Those who are looking for quality suicidal black metal, check out Noenum (Fin) - Black Esoteric Evangelium 10" (and demo). Totally underrated release/band, it seems nobody ever talks about it. Full of melancholic and sorrowful riffs and damn great vocals. I wish they'd release something again someday.

What I want is dark, hopeless and extremely atmospheric black metal with fast tempos and extensive use of blastbeats. Yet, the music should have that vivid, emotional, almost depressive feeling to it. With this request I place some value on production values, but if there's nothing very well produced, I don't mind.

Darkspace comes rather close, by the way, and if you took all the suicidal stuff away from Shining's first full-length, that might be pretty close too.
Anything at all?

Perhaps Lutomysl's Decadence.

Weird find... but I am looking for more bands with the raw grimness of old darthrone and Burzum but with the clean production of Abigail Willliams. If someone can cite some examples I might be on the right track. I am thinking older Satarial type...?? (Queen of the Elves Land).

I pity the day I bought I.I on impuls.

Bethlehem's SUIZID could be considered as Death-Pierce Me's big daddy.

I agree except I think Bethlehem's album before that one, Dictius Te Necare is a little more deserving of that title. Either way give Bethlehem a try.

You may want to check out "IMPERIUM DEKADENZ". Maybe it's the kind of stuff you are looking for:

Imperium Dekadenz - Reich der fahlen Seelen

Imperium Dekadenz - The night whispers to the wise

You should check out Murder Rape, from Brazil. They keep it mostly midpaced and simple, but theres a lot to enjoy if you pay attention. Not quite the same creepy crawly atmosphere that Barathrum generates though...love those guys.

I am actually not familiar with Satarial..

But I'm thinking the "Thy Dying Light" album from Judas Iscariot is something you might be fond of. Aaskereia has that raw/hateful feel with crispy clear production, and the vocals are absolutely amazing!!

Shining is another band that comes to mind.

This topic has been discussed a ton of times, but I'll try to make my question less vague than others. I'm looking for some ambient, post-rock inspired black metal similar to Wolves in the Throne Room. I don't like most bands compared to them, like Burzum, Velvet Cacoon, and Weakling. Preferably bands whose lyrical themes touch on nature and Norse mythology.

Other additional bands I like that don't necessarily relate include Immortal, Nagelfar, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sigur Ros, and Explosions in the Sky.

Thanks I enjoyed them but not quite what I was looking for. The vocals are average BM and they do speed a little in the songs.
Any other rec for the Barathrum sound? I also enjoyed the last Celtic Frost album.
