I'm looking for something that sounds similar to Mayhem's "Deathcrush". It's just so amazingly crushing, and I love the crunchy production. Got any ideas?

Ceremonial Castings and Kinstrife & Blood are both great too. Thanks for all the recs you guys, between this and the death metal thread i have enough new metal to keep me busy for awhile yet. Really loving the atmospheric metal, thanks for the help.

Except for the proto/80's black metal thing, I never liked black metal that much, however there are some second wave black metal albums that I like as well.

Lately I've been listening to Dissection's first 2 albums a bit and I really like the more melodic songs, that sound slower, beautiful and overall less heavier. (''Where Dead Angels Lie'' is an good example)

My request: recommend me beautiful/very melodic black metal. Black metal albums that don't focus much on speed/agression with endless blastbeats, but rather a melancholic, calmer sound. I'm fine with any vocalist as long as he doesn't sound like many depressive black metal vocalist out there; over dramatically, like he's crying.

I don't mind production that much and lyrics should be in english. Great lyrics is a plus but definitely not required.

If you enjoy Dissection I would rec Sacramentum, Dawn and Vinterland.

I've never been all that much into Black Metal neither but I always loved the "Proto BM" bands like Sodom, Celtic Frost and Root so what I am basically looking for is Thrash influenced Black Metal, if it exists. NOT Blackened Thrash, though. No Ambient or Electronic influences or any of that shit, just plain fast as hell Black Metal, Celtic Frost worship is acceptable too.

You must get some Morbid Saint and Sarcofago, seriously. Also, check out Aura Noir, Vulcano, Venom, Bathory and Hellhammer, maybe even Pestilence.

Im requesting some black metal with very melodic and "epic" tremoloriffing, but also very lo-fi production in athmospheric way. Some guideline examples:

Alcest - La Forêt De Cristal

Darkthrone - Hans Siste Vinter

Nachtruf - Eine Nacht Der Ewigkeit

Sorcier des Glaces - Onward into the Crystal Snow

Also non tremoloplayed good stuff wont harm, like:
Darkthrone - Quintessence

So i guess that tells somehow what im looking for. I dont mind acoustics, ambient or synths, actually those are even preferred if done well but they gotta go well with the rest. So no dimmusynths, some megahappy folk acoustics etc. and no utterly boring and repetitive ambient.

Thx already in advance and if some band fits into the description id like you to mention it even if they have some qualities from the "not wanted" list, like good cd with 1 boring and long ambient piece is still good for the rest and im kinda desperate in finding those bands that have the kind of guitars i described.

I came here to request the same thing. I'll throw in Watain - Casus Luciferi in there as well.

Hello. Updating a request I made almost a year ago, without receiving a single answer... T.T

So, I'm still searching for bands like Bethlehem, Ondskapt, Silencer (for the vocals mainly, not the music itself) and Code. Something maniac and agressive ; a virulent form of neurosis transposed into music.
Cryfemal's "Apoteosis Oculta" somehow matches the kind of music I'm looking for.

I should probably mention that I hate depressive black in general, and that the production matters for me if the album was recorded after 2000.

This. Also a new request:

I'm searching for "post black", avant-garde or experimental black or whatever the accutare name is ; in fact, bands like Oranssi Pazuzu and Bergraven's last album, "Till Makabert Vasen".
Rock influences in an experimental black metal band... but not like Amesoeurs or Alcest. If that makes enough sense for you to understand, thanks in advance for the recommandations.

I'm looking for bands that are somewhat similar to M8L8TH ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIF8YWJggvc&fmt=18 , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQPs7v2xh_4&fmt=18 ) with the crazed falsetto screams, doesn't necessarily need to be NSBM.

Thanks.

I've recently listened to a lot of the old Bathory and Celtic Frost (and some Hellhammer), mostly To Mega Therion and Blood Fire Death. Can anyone recommend me some good black/thrash/heavy metal similar to the old first wave bands?

Of course Darkthrone's A Blaze in the Northern Sky is heavily influenced by Celtic Frost and early Bathory, but I usually assume most black metal fans have heard it.

You can try Funeral Winds debut album. Typhon (from Columbia) has a heavy metal/black metal vibe which is also inspired by Celtic Frost. You might like them a lot, depending on if you can handle the vocals. They aren't horrible, they're just not too powerful.

The second riff that starts at 0:23 on Horna:s Rautamyrsky is also a good describer on what im looking for.

I'm looking for some really raw, lofi black metal that maintains an eerie atmosphere without being plodding and slow like most DSBM bands

Something like S.V.E.S.T., Darkthrone, early Countess and others. Ambient tracks and a satanic lyrical edge are a plus

I took a break from metal for awhile to go off on a strange underground ambient tangent and I'm looking to transfer that love to metal.

Basically I just want some lofi black metal that sounds like it was recorded in the woods on a 4 track.

Okay, here's one for you guys:

Sigh's Scorn Defeat is pretty awesome, but also rather different from their later material. The closest I've been able to find is something along the lines of Anubi.

Basically, what I'm looking for is something riff-based, but with a focus on atmosphere. I'd prefer a solid production job, but if all they've got are lo-fi demos, I'll survive. I am NOT looking for the second wave black metallers in the vein of Darkthrone, I don't really want something minimalistic.

Basically, think Sigh's Scorn Defeat. More like that in terms of the instrumentals. I'm not really a huge fan of Mirai's voice on the album, if that at all helps.

Thanks in advance!

Looking for something like clandestine blaze, something primitive, not very fast, might have slower tracks (like clandestine blaze in split with DsO), with norwegian bm influence, without synth, piano. Well, something simple, less known.thanks.

I'm looking for some not-too-abrasive black metal with clean or relatively un-harsh vocals. Not too fast, and not too blasphemous. Basically black metal that someone not used to it could listen to, but the key here is no harsh vocals.

Production wise, try Beherit's The Oath of Black Blood. It's usually dismissed as a poor album but I enjoy it.

Looking for Japanese black metal. Raw, atmospheric or experimental; dosen't matter. Half-decent production will also help.

Sigh's Scorn Defeat and possibly Infidel Art. And Hangman's Hymn is awesome, but more black/thrash.

But then, you must have been living under a rock if you haven't heard of them by now. And the same holds for the Japanese Sabbat (but again, black/thrash). So I don't really know how useful this suggestion is, but in the off-chance you haven't gotten to them yet...

Scorn Defeat is really the only Sigh I find listenable, the later stuff just dosen't do anything for me. Thanks anyway, though.

If your looking for dark depressing and not too technical, check out Dodsferd. It may already have been said, I'm not sure this is a long thread but still. Dodsferd is amazing, and Horna, check out these fuckers.

I think Deathchurch might do. Kind of like late 80's Deathcrush/I.N.R.I./Satanic Rites-type black metal meets modern basement/bedroom black metal (ZBT). I find it a bit difficult to listen to due to the shoddy production quality, but good nonetheless.

Any recommendations for really aggressive black metal in the vein of 1349's Hellfire? I'd appreciate more varied drumming but ultra-fast blastbeats used moderately would be just fine. Mainly I'm looking for fast, angry riffing. High quality production would also be appreciated.

Check out Woe from the US, they are rather fast (they have also slower things) but otherwise fit that description pretty well.

Looking for old-school and melodic black metal in the line of Draconis Infernum and Immortal. The two types don't have to mix, but if they could that would be great. An added bonus is if the lyrics are not satanic/anti-christian, but I'm ok if they still are. Thanks.

No one yet? To add to the request, I'd appreciate more dynamics. Hellfire was good and all, but they'd really hammer on one riff for quite a while.

Although not Satanic at all, and not particularly fantastic, When Bitter Spring Sleeps is a lofi black metal band that records their music in the woods (Yes, in the woods....sorry I couldn't resist. :p)

Looking for something similar to Marduk and 1349, but with less blasturbation and more variety. Good production would be appreciated as well.
