Heh, I see you've taken my old role as the guy with the giant black metal recommendation lists. :p ;)

By the way, have you heard the Greek band Spectral Lore? I've gotten his second album as a promo and it's enormously atmospheric black metal and ambient. Surprise of the year for me.

Yes, the great German Reich is everywhere... also in Kyrgystan.

The band has resettled to Germany... and please consult a map and figure out where Germany and Kyrgystan lie. And we have already enought trouble with East-Germany... we do not need something less developed. Thank you.

I wasn't too sure about it, I just recalled them being somehow both from Kyrgystan and Germany, which is why I put that question mark there, no need to jump down my throat for it.

what I wrote was not meant to be offensive...

Ah, ok. The usual problem with internet posts I guess, neither visual cues nor tone of voice to determine how someone is actually saying something. I'll grant you that it was a pretty dumb mistake on my part, especially now that I recall that the songwriter is the only one from Kyrgyzstan and the rest of the band was recruited after he moved to Germany. Doh!

I haven't heard Spectral Lore yet. I know them but I've yet to listen to them :ugh:

Does anyone around here has a record label? If yes, is he / she interested in releasing Vahagn's stuff.

Here's their MySpace page -> http://www.myspace.com/vahagnband

If someone is interested mail them there. I like their music and I'd love to see them releasing a full-length.

I will surely do so. A lot of stuff is still on its way to me and I have just ripped a lot of tapes and vinyls.

The problem might be that I have decided to submit them to the Metal Archives on one day only. Thursday night I they are posted on the sites and Friday they appear. So you just have to look at that one day in order to find reviews on obscure bands.

But you can support them anyhow. The problem might be to find the right label and as the internet and MySpace has given rise to a lot of 'distributors', the situations has become confusing... how to identify a good label now?

I wish that more bands like Clad In Darkness existed but I don't know any of them :(

I'll check out Wormtongue.

By the way, you may like Breath Of Sorrows. Just listen to them to their MySpace here -> http://www.myspace.com/breathofsorrows Listen to the third track ;)

Opeth are the closest band to Clad In Darkness I can think of, actually. Wormtongue is close, but his songs actually flow together. I'll check out BoS too.

EDIT: It seems that Breath of Sorrows are from Las Vegas, which is only a six hour drive from Reno. Cant say I like the vocals too much though.

Opeth are indeed close but they're not BM ;)

BoS are a great band. Just listen to the third song :)

Well, I find Klabautamann and Dornenreich to be fairly similar to Clad In Darkness.

Not when you search for Black Metal. The quality of his releases from this genre is not good. I have several albums that had been released by this label and they are never above average. Perhaps the noise stuff that he has in stock is good, but beyond this STS can hardly be recommended as a first address to look at.

His noize/experimental/ambient releases are always interesting and great for influential reasons that push music's limits.

As for his black metal releases, yes I agree they are very hit n miss but theres notta doubt they are all underground. I think his best BM release so far is the recent BESTIA MC.

Which STS BM releases do you have my friend ?

The Dead Musician - 'Resist'
CURSED CEMETERY - Victor of Vicis Obduco

Yeah,, their latter material defintally swings towards brutal death metal more then epic black metal after second thought. Still thou, the release STS did for them is criminally unknown.

There are a lot of bands whose release should receive more attention. Listen to Babylon 2000 of Immemoratus for instance... it was released by Heerwegen Tod Productions from Poland; a good label. They will release the new Hexenwald soon.

While I didn't like the first Hexenwald album that much, the promo tracks that I got with it of the upcoming album were very good. Any idea when it will be released?

Well, recently I have been delving into some of the musicians from the Canadian underground label, Alchemic Sound Museum, and I have found a great band, that is connected to that label; the band is Utarm.

Mainly, what I am seeking is some bands that are somewhat similar to the music that Utarm produces, whilst not coming off as being utterly cheesy and such.

If you desire here is Utarm's MySpace web-page, so (to anyone who may be interested) can hear their rather, "dark" audio-artwork.

http://www.myspace.com/utarm

Thanks in advance.

May, when I remember it right... very soon. I wrote a mail to Heerwegen Tod some time ago and asked about forthcoming releases, also because he has some nice stuff in stock.

If not May, then perhaps June... but very soon.

I'm not particularly fond of it, but Graveland is perhaps the most well-known Polish black metal band. I'd recommend Celtic Winter as a starter, but just read the reviews to figure out which one to check out.

Ehhh I don't really like Graveland. I do like Kataxu though. Looking for stuff less known I guess.

Essential Polish black metal recs, anyone? Just a couple albums to see if I like the style.

Ah yeah, I forgot your request :p

Well, the above mentioned Thunderbolt, Kataxu, Swastyka and Sunwheel are essential Polish Black Metal. Add also Gontyna Kry at the above mentioned group. These bands are more on the symphonic side of things. Archandrja and Venedae are good in the Pagan / Melodic side of things. For more raw stuff check out Arkona and early North (the later is closer to War Metal). War 88 is a decent NSBM band with strong Punk undertones. I've also heard great words about Hatenwar but I have yet to check them.

PS: I checked out Klabautamann and I have to say that Rabenmorgen is a great song.

I'd add Northland to the recs for Polish black metal.

I need some help (Mors Gloria, you're my only hope :D) on finding an italian band. They were on a recent italian black metal compilation, Signum Martis, from the Black Metal Invitta Armata, a group of italian bands (Spite Extreme Wing and Janvs among the others).

http://www.signum-martis.org/index2.htm

The release is very good (and I suggest you try it) but I want to find more about the band Gladio. Their track, Saturnaliorum Convivia, is great avangarde black metal. Imho, it is fucking brilliant. I couldn't find them on MA though, nor over the net.

Anybody knows anything of this band?

By the way, I can also recommend "Wind of the Black Mountains". Their debut album is really strange, yet compelling and evil black metal with a lot of influences.
