recs on thrash metal with obvious black metal influences, with rasped vocals and tremolo picking and raw thrash metal energy with a slight melody. Skeletonwitch, Desaster are my favorites in this particular genre.

I like technical brutal thrash. Vektor's Outer Isolation is my favorite ones. Can you recommend some more artists?
On another topic, I love blackened thrash too. Skeletonwitch is one of my favorite thrash bands of all time. Rasp vocals, fast riffing and soloing with a tinge of melody popping here and there. Are there any artists that come under this same category?

Nekromantheon - Rise, Vulcan Spectre (You should check out there first album, Divinity of Death, for your brutal thrash request. Not as tech as Vektor but brutal in the vein of Demolition Hammer with some technical flare and less of the blackened influence that's prevalent on Vulcan Spectre)

Infernal Stronghold's earlier stuff (Pests split, Gatt split) Their later stuff is more black than thrash but still ripping

Thy Darkened Shade

I just figured out my favourite riff-oriented thrash metal albums all have something in common: they share the ideal combination of quality riffing combined with solid memorable soloing. These being Helstar's Nosferatu (which could be described as power/thrash), Megadeth's second and Pestilence's debut.

Speaking of Pestilence; I start to like their debut more and more everytime I hear it. It has wicked guitar solo's that occasionally sound rather creepy (e.g start of the opening track) and has many memorable riffs to offer. ''Commandments'' might be my favourite song of theirs. You can't beat that groovy, catchy riff that shows up around the 3 minute mark.

Nekromantheon's 2010 album "Divinity of Death" should fit the bill nicely - http://duplicaterecords.bandcamp.com/al ... y-of-death

Their album from last year "Rise, Vulcan Spectre" is rad too but has more of a blackened vibe as opposed to the brutality of DoD.

Yeah dude, DH is unparalleled in thrash brutality but that Nekro record is bangin!! The verse riff in Cry Havoc is out of control!

I wouldn't really put Vektor under the brutal thrash banner. Technical and brutal thrash are two fairly different things. Technical is... well just that: technical. Brutal thrash metal is definitely just fast-as-fuck, fly-off-the-handles thrash with screamy, short choruses. Think FastKill, Terrordome, Attomica, Morbid Saint, Hellcannon, Deathraiser, etc.

As for Vektor, good luck with that. There really aren't any bands that sounds like them. They're fairly unique.

Also, sorry to totally not add anything. Thrash metal is my shit, but I've totally been trying to get into more death metal stuff lately, but I've already seen some albums mentioned that I've got to check out.

I also can't really think of bands that could be considered technical and brutal at the same time.

After listening to some random Meshuggah songs that bored the crap out of me I listened to a song of their debut which got me hooked right away - it's pretty killer thrash metal material which sounds REALLY different from their loud, modern works that I found to be dull.

Sadus fits both styles of thrash well enough, as does the first Invocator album.

Contradictions Collapse is a very overlooked album. Meshuggah fans pretend it doesn't exist, and I've seen many thrash fans dismiss it as too groovy or mere AJFA clonery. The latter accusation may be somewhat accurate, but at the same time it's a much more technical and aggressive album, and I'd gladly put it above many of the better Bay Area-styled releases. 'Greed' is the only boring song; the many-syllabled ones kick ass.

''Paralyzing Ignorance'' is my favourite song of the album so far. I love the tight drumming and the rapid riffs that come out of nowhere. It definitely sounds very exciting though. There's just so much going on there. Was this the only thrash metal album Meshuggah came up with?

As for Sadus, yeah, I can agree with that. I might also put the first two Incubus albums under that banner, too.

Their S/T EP has a couple thrash songs as well, although those aren't as interesting. That song is my favorite too, just ahead of Abnegating Cecity with that awesome bridge where it's pretty much hardcore-style gang shouting, but jumping in at odd times.

You might want to check out Condition Critical's EP. And I also think Morbid Carnage would be a good one for you to check out. Their latest album had some really brutal shit on it as far as I remember. Oh, and that also made me think of another band. Death Mechanism. It sounds like a slightly more technical Demolition Hammer. So yeah, definitely check them out too!

There we have something in common. Megadeth is a pretty unique band, and not easy to find similar artists too. I know that wasn't really what you requested, but try some of these out:
Deadxhead - These guys LOVE Megadeth with all their heart. In fact, they like them so much they even found a vocalist that sounds pretty much just like Dave!
Memorain - These guys were in the same boat as Deadxhead, until recently, when they had some line-up changes, including the addition of a new vocalist. The music is very Megadeth oriented, but also more original than their earlier stuff. The song I linked here is from the new album.
West of Hell - This band actually features the same guy that sings in Memorain (on Memorain's latest album, that is) and is much more heavy/power/thrash oriented. I think you're gonna like this one a lot!
Sufosia - This band isn't as thrashy as the others, I would say. I did link one of their slower tracks, but there's just so much to like about this song. I can't get enough of that chorus.

I'll try to think of some more, and if I do, I'll PM ya. :)

Sufosia are great, they are from my country, Croatia, and I saw them live a couple of times, they always make a great show!

Anyway, can someone suggest me some thrash bands formed in last 2-3 years?

All I can think of is Chronosphere, who released "Envirusment" last year and it's pretty good. They existed as Homo Sapiens since 2009 but only released a demo in 2011 under that name.

Tantara are really good as well, but they formed in 2009 - I hope that's modern enough for you! I can't think of any more recently formed bands.

Even though Time Is Up wasn't exactly my thing, I have to admit that it was a step-up for them both in song-writing and thrash's evolution (they finally made the leap from 1985 to 1989), and it sounds no less genuine than what any of the second-tier guys were doing in the 80's. That song is kind of taking them backwards though. Much more generic riffs than the previous.

Try Gladiator's (the Slovakian one) "Designation" and "Made of Pain." They're maybe even a tad too clone-y of late 80's/early 90's Sepultura, but I think they still have enough kick-ass riffs to keep things fresh and interesting.

I can't stop listening to Vio-Lence's Eternal Nightmare, and Exodus's Bonded by Blood. I need some more thrash like these two albums.

I've already listened to Kreator's Endless Pain and Pleasure to Kill, Dark Angel's first two albums, Sabbat's Dreamweaver, Artillery's No Fear Tomorrow, Testament's The Legacy, and even the thrash-revival band, Violator's Chemical Assault.

The ones above are the closest I could find, and there are dozens of other thrash bands I've checked out that aren't even close. What have I missed? Or will I just never find albums of the same caliber as Eternal Nightmare and Bonded by Blood?

Not exactly the same but I really dig SADUS.

Sadus isn't quite what I'm looking for (probably because they're death/thrash), and Lich King's vocals just don't work for me. On the other hand, Brainicide blew my mind! These guys are incredible man, I just wish they had a full-length album. Regardless, thank you very much!

Of course there is HATRIOT, who sound a lot like modern EXODUS:
http://www.blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?m ... mID=186218

You mentioned DARK ANGEL, and SADUS is closer to that.

Yeah, that BRAINICIDE is excellent and really should be reissued. BTW, it features ex-JUDAS PRIEST vocalist Ripper Owens on vocals.

Currently my favourite thrash bands are Anthrax, Overkill (ADORE The Electric Age album <3), Testament, Swashbuckle, Havoc and Angelus Apatrida. Kreator are OK to me, but I'm honestly not a fan of Slayer. So something closer to Anthrax or Testament is preferable. I'm also quite fond of the concept of Power/Thrash crossover bands, although I don't know very many.

For more straight-up thrash, I'd recommend groups like Artillery, Watchtower, Holy Terror, Annihilator, Hallows Eve, Forbidden, Essence, Destruction, Ulysses Siren, and Bonded By Blood.

If you're looking for more technical/"wanky" thrash, then you need to check out Toxik, Vektor, Heathen, and Coroner.

For power/thrash, there's the obvious Iced Earth and Nevermore, but then there's also the less-obvious Agent Steel, Flotsam and Jetsam, Shatter Messiah, Imagika, Mystic Prophecy, Paradox, and Realm.

That should be more than enough to get you started. Happy listening!

ANNIHILATOR is a great choice already :) maybe you like Acid Death, Coroner, Obliveon and Mekong Delta

Accuser, Atrophy, Anacrusis, some Razor and Nuclear Assault stuff, Bywar, Death Angels album "The Ultra Violence", Sepultura "Schizophrenia", Deathrow, early Destruction, Electrocute, Erosion (GER), Evildead, Heathen, Faith Or Fear, Ground Zero, Living Sacrifice self-titled album, Sharp-Shell Shock (SSS), Terror...
and if it doesnt have to be from the 80s I can really recommend you Warbringer " In my eyes one of the best "new" Thrash Metal music!

Shameless self promotion, but might interest those who like their mid 80s style Thrash stripped down and to the point, and yes, we're a current UK band with CD and merch :)

Hey guys, simple request.

I'm looking for some fast thrash. I'm not saying it has to be hyperspeed sonic thrash, just none of this post thrash or groove crap that doesn't really even count as thrash.I want something fast. Many bonus points if it's melodic and/or aggressive (note this does not mean I want death thrash. I'm not opposed to it but I'm not looking for it specifically). I also love technical/progressive music and even though it's not what I'm asking for, I would be open to it.

Also, one more thing. I hate bad/old/shitty production. I should be able to hear every instrument (except bass), and neither the snare, bass drum, nor vocals should echo for hours on end. I like crisp modern production.

Examples of bands I like: Havok, Bonded by Blood, Exodus (later), Warbringer (later), BurstHead, Cerberus, Dead Shape Figure, Dimension Zero, Eradication, Hatesphere, The Haunted (One Kill Wonder), Nembience, The Resistance, Sylosis, Urkraft.

Thanks. I have a tendency to forget to check my rec posts so I might not check back for a while.
