Well, it's kindof obscure but it's definitely bandwagon: DEFIANCE - Void Terra Firma

And you recommended him one of their 90s albums?! :D

Start with Product Of Society and then take it chronologically, it will make more sense. I personally like Beyond Recognition a lot, but that sounds more like early 90s with different influences creeping in.

This probably gonna sound weird, but I'm looking for a thrash/stoner/prog band. I'm not even sure that that's a thing, but I figured this would be the best place to find anything. Maybe something along the lines of Mekong Delta, but throw in a little Corrosion of Conformity, Clutch, Exodus, Porcupine Tree. Long shot but whatever

Technical Progressive Melodic Thrash
Forbidden - Twisted into Form, Watchtower - Control and Resistance, Cynic - Focus are albums I love.
I also like Atheist, early Annihilator, Hexenhaus, Volcano (I'm sure I'm forgetting some obvious names here).

Now the catch. I don't like "regular" thrash. At all. I can appreciate the riffing in Slayer and the melodocism in Metallica, but as a whole, it doesn't attract me at all.
And I want clean singing à la Russ Anderson and Alan Tecchio.
Got anything?

Thanks

Nope. Neither are Coroner. Too much regular thrash. I'll add melodic to my headline.

Since about 1993.

Im sure if you dont already know about Vektor, they are technical, progressive, and pretty melodic. I wouldnt say they are "regular" thrash but they do have a lot of it in their sound, their second album Outer Isolation is a lot more progressive if thats what your looking for.

Opus, I have no idea what to recommend to you, sorry mate.

And now you've lost me. But OK, let's leave it at that if you think that Focus is thrash.

Not really stoner as such, but prog-doom band Revelation had a slightly thrashy feel on their debut "Salvation's Answer".

Also, Vortex Of Insanity's "Social Decay" was a great thrash/doom album with a progressive edge, but I can't find any YT samples, sorry.

No-one reccomended this man Mekong Delta yet?! Personally I love all the albums, but "The Music of Eric Zann" is my favourite.
Spoiler: show

Maybe try Thought Industry. I'm only familiar with the album "Songs for Insects", but it's pretty... interesting.
Spoiler: show

Give Depressive Age a shot as well. I'm only familiar with "First Depression".
Spoiler: show

If anything my recs will be missing the 'melodic' part you're looking for, but they should fulfill the rest at least!

Can anyone recommend a thrash metal band with vocalist who sounds close to Dan Nelson (ex-Anthrax, ex-Blackgates). I mean strong clean emotional voice that is not high-pitched. I really enjoyed Blackgates' demo songs so I'm searching for smth like that.

DARK ANGEL - Time Does Not Heal
DEATH ANGEL - (pretty much anything)

(I assume you have heard ANTHRAX - Sound of White Noise. Bush and Nelson sound very similar.)

Time Does Not Heal is certainly one of my favourite albums and I've listened to it hundreds of times. And I know about Death Angel too. So I'm looking for less famous bands.

Hey guys,

I'm looking for modern bands that capture the early sound of Demolition Hammer. I'm currently listening to the new debut album of Condition Critical ( http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Con ... 3540333124 ) which sparked this interest, you can definitely hear the influence.

When it comes to DH I always red Nekromantheon's album from 2010, "Divinity of Death"
http://duplicaterecords.bandcamp.com/al ... y-of-death

I'd also rec Besieged's 2010 album "Victims Beyond All Help" which is about to be reissued on Unspeakable Axe/Dark Descent - http://darkdescentrecords.bandcamp.com/ ... d-all-help

Anyone know of any thrash metal bands inspired by melodic black metal like Dissection, Sacramentum, etc.? I know Skeletonwitch, but that's about it.

Destroyer 666 and Aura Noir are obvious mentions. You really should listen to both of those bands though. And in particular, this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0SBbKuIaFg

Check out Susperia's Predominance. That's the only album I got of theirs but it pretty much fits the bill according to me.

So Fog of War's s/t is the first album I've picked up for a while that has inspired me to play it over and over, can anybody recommend me similarly good crossover bands? Preferably with the bass high in the mix as they do.

Haven't listened to Auro Noir yet, but Destroyer 666 is awesome, especially that song. I've listened to their first 3 albums, all pretty good.

I liked what I heard on YouTube, but the songs were on a playlist, and some songs sounded incredibly compressed. Thanks YouTube... I suppose I'll have to purchase this one immediately!

Ive been listening to Prowler: After You pretty much nonstop. Not only is the musicianship great, the clips from the horror movies just add to it. Do any other bands use sound clips too? Or at the least bands with horror movie references?

Ghoul is an obvious one. They are death/thrash.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_j99rPQs1s

Blood Freak is another band and they use cheesy horror samples. May not be thrashy enough for you but worth a look.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mdj1IAc_N8

Frightmare contains members of Blood Freak and is more thrashy than them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aE6lXNVqZzE

Check out Razorback records releases as many of those releases are all in a similar vein with a death/thrash sound with a big focus on cheesy horror movies.

Sodomizer. Cenobites opens with a clip from Hellraiser..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoNbugzUdNs

Send More Paramedics. Thrash about zombies.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vs8H9pGHGy0

Deceased. One of the finest examples. A lot of their albums are excellent. They always made me think of the brutal Texas thrash scene with their meaty riffs and throaty vocals.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXBM2Yp5Nn0

:edit: And of course Evil Dead which I almost forgot.

as previously recommended, Deceased-Fearless Undead Machines.

Not thrash but when I think horror movie samples I think Mortician and Skinless.

any good new tech thrash recommendations along the lines of Revocation (with better vocals preferably)? Saw vector suggested earlier and am vaguely familiar with their Voivod-ish take. Looking for something that might sound like a modern day Coroner meets Toxik.

Try Angelus Apatrida

Couple of videos :

You are next

Blast off

Their earlier material is bit slower and more melodic, (in good way), last two are more faster and in your face.
Solid songwriting and skills, i really like the vocals. however, you have to give it some time to sink in.

I really wish there were more bands that sound like that!

You might really like my band TEMPLE OF BLOOD because those are some of the bands we were really influenced by:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRgk0__naUQ

You might also want to check out IMMACULATEE - "Atheist Crusade".

I think after AJFA came out a lot of band started going for that sounds.

I would probably recommend:
HEATHEN - Victims of Deception
METAL CHURCH - Blessing in Disguise (also produced by Terry Date)
DEVASTATION - Idolatry
FORBIDDEN - Twisted into Form
TOURNIQUET - Psycho Surgery

Hello!

For thrash metal, old Metallica i.e. "Kill 'Em All", "Ride the Lightning", "Master of Puppets" as well as "...And Justice For All" are albums that I got into when I was first getting into thrash. Destruction too with "Infernal Overkill", "Release From Agony" and "Live Without Sense." Not to big on their newer stuff though I think that "All Hell Breaks Loose" is worth getting. It's their comeback album with Schmier on vocals/bass.

I'd say that old Metallica and Destruction were 2 of my favorite bands and still are. Just not nowadays i.e. newer material. Sodom is decent though their new album is just average. I prefer "Agent Orange." Kreator has some good albums too like "Coma of Souls", "Violent Revolution" and "Enemy of God." I didn't really like their latest "Phantom Antichrist." I'm picky with music. If I don't like what I hear coming out of the speakers, I pawn it off. No need for crap albums to stay in my collection. Even though I'm 36 now, I'm still big on thrash metal.

A lot of newer bands are coming out like Warbringer as an example. They're decent, not the greatest, but they're at least still trying. Can't forget Slayer's "Show No Mercy", "Reign In Blood", "South of Heaven" and "Seasons In the Abyss" are classic releases. RIP Jeff Hanneman! As far as Testament goes, only "First Strike Still Deadly" and "Dark Roots of the Earth" are albums that I really envy. I don't like too many Testament albums though I'm a big fan of Alex Skolnick.

That's my input.

Ryan

Thrash with low/baritone vocals? I'm kinda sick of all the high pitched wailing.

If you're not familiar with them, try out early Sepultura.

Morbid Saint is another band you should check out, though I think the vocals are not as deep as you may like them

And also Dew-Scented

I've been into thrash metal since I was 13...I'm 36 now and even though it seems like I'm senile because of medical reasons, I'm still enjoying this genre. Didn't think too highly of what I heard on the new Destruction release, so I'm going to hold off on getting it, but I did order Sodom's "Agent Orange" CD. A true classic!

Enjoying Slayer's "Show No Mercy" at the moment...hopefully will get some new CD's in the mail. The German thrash bands I'm a big fan of not to mention old Metallica and other US state bands!

Those are some of my thoughts........

Have you heard Time Does Not Heal by Dark Angel? Ron Rinehart sounds like a much lower Bruce Dickinson, meaning he can fucking sing really well without using high pitched vocals. The music is somewhat well writen and has some (very few) progressive elements, drum work is sick!

If you are not scared to try modern stuff there's Evile. Matt sounds like Max Cavalera+Tom Araya.

Revocation is really technical and melodic. They have a death metal aproach with a healthy thrash metal doze.

Obliveon was a technical/progressive thrash metal band with raspy semi growled vocals, awesome band, not that low, but awesome.
