like 'schizophrenia' early? i assume you have heard 'ghoul'? they have 2 main volcalists, one of which has that low, raspy, almost death metal sound.

there are an older band, and i don't think anyone posted it on this thread, so check out "The Accused", especially 'maddest stories ever told' and 'more fun than an open casket funeral.'

Yep. Here are my favorites:

Attomica - Disturbing the Noise (excellent hyperfast thrash, a lost classic in my opinion)

Korzus - Mass Illusion (Korzus was not initially, but turned into, a Sepultura soundalike; this was their best album easily, I think)

Andralls - Force Against Mind/Inner Trauma (both are fine modern thrash albums with vocals like a more hoarse Cavalera)

The Mist - Hangman's Tree (even more hoarse than Andralls but still kind of similar; the music is interesting too with some unusually gothic touches)

Incubus - Beyond the Unknown (very good brutal thrash, very Sepultura-like vocals - you might also check out the reissue of "Serpent Temptation," which featured redone vocals from their second singer - the original one sounded quite different)

Besieged - Visions of Pain demo (excellent new Canadian band - you can download this great demo from their MySpace page for free, too, plus a song from their forthcoming debut album)

Turbo - Dead End/One Way (this band changed their sound significantly; these later releases were very harsh, dry thrash with the vocal sound you're after)

Crionic - Different (really cool thrash with progressive touches and great riffing, but still energetic and aggressive as hell; you can download the whole album for free from their web site)

Hypnosia and Avenger of Blood are pretty similar to early-era Kreator.

Sacrifice is a bit faster and the singer is more screechy but that is also definitely worth a listen. Their first two albums are awesome.

Also, I didn't realize Hypnosia split up, that sucks :(

Sauron's Thrash Assault is mostly Kreator worship (and well-done at that), though with some black metal influences.

You could try Morbid Saint if you haven't already. It's fantastic anyway, regardless of how Kreatorish it sounds.

Demolition Hammer, to some extent, sounds kinda like Kreator. Violent, catchy riffs, hammering drums, satanic vocals, its all there.

Mike_64 - I second the recommendation of Gladiator, also - forgot about them. That would be the Gladiator from Slovakia. Their first two albums are good brutal thrash (the debut is the better of the two) with very Cavalera-ish vocals.

could someone recommend me some lightning fast thrash? i gave dragonforce a listen a while ago because my friend said it was br00tal but i can't stand any of those cheesy, upbeat power metal melodies, but i admire the constantly fast tempo they have. so in short some lighting fast thrash but with a little darker mood than, say, dragonforce

I see. Vio-Lence is your best bet in that case. Assassin's The Upcoming Terror also has some extremely fast thrash songs.

DragonForce is in no way thrash, your friend is a maniac!

Anyway, try out Kreator (very "brutal" thrash), S.O.D (the hardcore [as in, GOOD hardcore, not the modern tripe] in the music give it that fast edge, great band with a good sense of humour!) and Morbid Saint are also worth a look.

Enjoy!

sorry if i made it sound like i called DF thrash, but i enjoy metal when it has a lot of speed or at least some furious double-bass. so could you recommend me something other than the obvious?

Oh my god, listen to Wehrmacht. They have a bit of a crossover influence in their music, but most of their songs are absolutely one of the fastest I've ever heard. Also check out Acrophet, Sacrilege B.C. or Protector. All four of those happen to be inhumanly fast.

Ah damn, I was thinking if you listened to any thrash you'd know them, but I was going off of the DragonForce assumption. :P Sorry.

Anything like late era Kreator? Albums like Violent Revolution and Enemy Of God. Enemy is my all-time favorite album. Pretty godlike. Basically looking for brutal, yet melodic thrash with killer harmonies, etc. I find Exodus' Atrocity Exhibition A kinda close to Enemy. Any help will be appreciated.

Check out the latest album by Vendetta (Ger), and Onslaught (Uk).

National Suicide sounds similar to Exodus' Tempo of the Damned with vocals like Bobby Blitz, and Lazarus also sounds like Tempo of the Damned era Exodus. Another band you would probably like is Abandoned (Ger), particularly the album, Thrash Notes.

And to the guy wanting fast thrash check out Avenger of Blood, Fastkill, Legion of the Damned (tons of double bass),Num Skull, Dark Angel, Overkill (Taking Over), Razor,Whiplash, Eternal Devastation, Rabid...

Whiplash and Overkill are fast but not brutal. Same can probably be said for Razor.

Three bands is all you got? Pfft. Step out of the way.

Aggression - Forgotten Skeleton : Just plain fast.

Assassin - The Upcoming Terror : Really fucking fast German thrash.

Atrophy - Socialized Hate : Super-creative riffs that are ultra-fast and technical

Dark Angel - Darkness Descends : Fast, but not as fast as the first two.

Death Angel - The Ultra Violence : This album is consistently and insanely fast, not to mention heavy. Classic Bay Area.

Deathwish - Demon Preacher : Fast with a speed metal influence, sounds incredible.

FastKill - Infernal Thrashing Holocaust (&) Nuclear Thrashing Attack : The fastest shit to ever exist. Puts Dark Angel to shame.

Korupture - The Book Of Time : Hyperactive thrash with high-screams and gutturals.

Messiah - Choir Of Horrors (&) Rotten Perish : The best consistent and fast riffs plus deeper vocals.

Razor - Shotgun Justice (&) Open Hostility : The fastest leads, EVER.

Sadus - Chemical Exposures : Highly technical and fast, pissed off thrash.

Sauron - Thrash Assault : Just too good and fast.

Skullbreaker - Total Thrash Terror : Awesome retro thrash. Really fast shit.

Terror 2000 - Faster Disaster : Awesome, fast shit in the vein of older stuff. Technical, too.

Vendetta - Go And Live... : Thrash/speed with a fast attitude.

Vio-Lence - Eternal Nightmare : You CANNOT MISS THIS. Bay Area perfection.

Violator - Chemical Assault : Fast retro thrash that actually is old school.

Wehrmacht - Biermacht (&) Shark Attack : The fastest crossover ever.

Ah yes, terrific albums, both of which are brutal but wonderfully catchy and melodic at the same time. Definitely weren't try emulate the others thats for sure... I also hear they're working on a new album soon. People need to listen to these guys more, dammit.

Try Sacred Reich, probably the best mid-paced thrash band I,ve ever heard, possibly even superior to Testament.

Defiance's debut is pretty Testament-esque. Maybe it's just me, but Sacrosanct's Recesses for the Depraved comes across as a heavier and more technical Testament as well, even though they aren't quite as melodic.

How about any Testament-like thrash bands, old or new?

Defiance's debut is pretty Testament-esque.

I don't know about the debut, but Beyond Recognition is a pure Testament clone.

Wolfpack Unleashed from austria is heavily influenced by early Testament, but is far more melodic.

I would easily recommend them

Defiance is one of the most underwhelming thrash bands I've heard.

They've got a few good moments but everything about them is just feels uninspired and like they performed the stuff half asleep.

Agreed, but so is Testament's 88-92 material.

Yeah, can't say much good about Testament in general, honestly. They too have their moments but other then that I find em pretty bleh.
