Courtesy of Colin040, we may have a successor to Pathfinder for "best worst power metal."

The guest vocals by the empty, autotuned husk of David DeFeis somehow manage to be better than the band's actual vocalist, who is basically a D-grade Geoff Tate wannabe with no control over the size of his vibrato; the song goes on for an interminable 8+ minutes without ever developing any sort of discernible structure; the guitars sound like they were played through an $80 solid-state practice amp (a Roland microcube is good enough to record with, right?) - it almost rises to a form of performance art, it's so bad.

Any good old Swedish heavy metal bands beyond Yngwie, Heavy Load, Candlemass, Europe? I've pretty much mapped the early Finnish scene, and now I'd like to know what was there in our neighbour. They're pretty much ahead of us in everything, so that must be the case with heavy metal also.

LordStenhammar:
This kicks a lot of ass :)
The main riff at 0:27 is one of the best riffs EVER.

And 2:17 is the best dual-posing ever too

How long list do you want?
There were so many great bands that only released only one album, here's a few.

Proud - Fire Breaks the Dawn (1984)

Parasite - s/t (1984)

Lynx - Caught in the Trap (1985)

Then there's the more established ones. 220 Volt's first two, Torch, Silver Mountain, the first Madison album
And those 2 first Overdrive albums are favourites of mine.

Big thanks to you both! Maybe not any longer listings (for now at least), I already got enough work checking these out.

You've got to check out Mindless Sinner.

Their 2020 album 'Poltergeist' was pretty good too.

Anybody heard Sacred Outcry?

Came across it on youtube. Sounds like some decent Greek epic heavy metal. From the same guys in The Eternal Suffering, a black/death band whose Miasma release I liked a lot. They have a pretty good vocalist, which is probably my biggest complaint with a lot of Greek heavy metal lol, the vocals.

Yeah, I think it was Dungeon_Vic who mentioned them a page or two back, it seemed like pretty cool stuff. Didn't realize their full-length had dropped now, will have to check it out!

I've got a question regarding the Exciter 2005 Megaforce reissues. Anybody able to tell me why the song Evil Sinner was omitted from Violence and Force and tacked onto Heavy Metal Maniac as a bonus track?

One of the better trad/power releases of the year so far for me. Really, really enjoyed it.

I checked this one out on Friday and it's good! I agree that it's one of the better Greek Trad metal bands I've heard and the strong vocals are a huge part of that. It's a very reliable sounding album

I also heard the new High Spirits for the first time today and it's getting me pumped. Chris Black knows how to write catchy stuff. It's refreshing how to-the-point and compact his songs are.

Glad to hear you guys digging Sacred Outcry. I also think it's one of the better releases of the genre in the past years and the vocals of Yannis Papadopoulos is a major factor. That man has pipes and a nice timbre to boot. I usually don't go for cartoon/eurovision metal (like Sabaton or Battle Beast) but I have to admit that Beast in Black has been a (not so) guilty pleasure due to Yannis' performance.

Stumbled on this the other day thanks to the NWOTHM channel.

Byfist - In the End

A new favorite after digging through more power/traditional metal over these last few months.

Can't decide what's more distracting; the singer's vocals or his sideburns.

My first thought watching that clip was, "What in the world kind of face belongs to that voice?! ... ... ...Yeah, that checks out."

New album will soon be released by Sacred Outcry (Greece) who had released a very promising demo in 2003 and fell off the radar, with members doing other stuff.

Anyway, two lyric videos have been released and I think they are really good for their style, power metal with epic flourishes, you can hear something like a mix of Manowar and Iced Earth? Maybe some Kamelot. The vocals are top notch, as they are handled by Yannis Papadopoulos (Beast in Black, ex-Wardrum).
Highly recommended.

Finally had a listen to this band and they’re wicked. A great mix of Power/Trad/Doom/Thrash with awesome riffs and vocals. What more could ya ask for? Nice rec. I’m off to order it right now.

Fookin el that was hilarious. The dude with the awesome chops maybe should stick to the guitar tho. Not that his vocals were that bad it was just that he was trying to fit too many lyrics in. The video was a bit of fun especially when the cyclist rode behind them, probably should’ve edited that out. Almost so bad it’s good... almost.

Oz evidently released an album back in May, and it's actually pretty damn solid on first listen. I really hope to hear more out of Vince Koivula in the coming years, too.

New Tim Aymar (Control Denied/Pharaoh) material, a band called Helios, in case it hasn't been discussed in here yet:

It's pretty damn solid. Love that bass.

Also I made a silly playlist with some of my fav Europower (or Europower-adjacent stuff) for a friend, thought yall might be interested:

I don't hate that Helios EP. I like most of Hellbender (Tim Aymar's cleans are phenomenal), although the chorus feels unsatisfying in a way I'm struggling to put my finger on. Under-developed maybe?

The new Glacier album just went up on Youtube today, and it's absolutely brilliant. A strong AOTY contender for sure.

AotY is between Glacier and Armored Saint for me, at the moment. Both are absolute monster releases. Must-listen stuff.

I'm starting to think it's better than the old material! Michael Podrybau was never a bad vocalist by any means, but he sounds absolutely incredible now.

One 2020 release that's flown shamefully under the radar is Lady Beast's The Vulture's Amulet. This song in particular is just on the cusp of greatness:

So I've been going through Saber Tiger's earlier albums and man, if this song isn't prog/power metal perfection, then I don't know what is.
