anyone got anything recent that will scratch the itch for something like Intestine Baalism's Ultimate Instinct?

I need something proper grimy and dark, with a lot of buzz and a lot of punch, a good degree of variation, and those gorgeous melodies. There's gotta be someone out there doing it no? any help would be greatly appreciated

Interested in stuff that sounds like this. Tremolo-driven with doomy sections and dirty production.

^ Nice. Not sure if any of those songs quite have the vibe I'm looking for, but I'll come back to them.

Incantation also kinda fits the bill. So Incantation influence is a step in the right direction.

The Knelt Rote one was faster and more grind-influenced than what I'm looking for, so I removed it from that post. I'm looking for slower stuff, like the second one I embedded.

Anything like Deicide's Stench of Redemption? (the more similar, the better)

Have you heard Vital Remains? Not according to your last.fm profile. Try Vital Remains release Dechristianize, you might recognize the vocals too :)

I don't see much of a similarity between these 2 bands, apart from being a Death Metal band and having my boy Glen in the vocals.

I still appreciate your rec, thanks :)

The Estonian band Rattler is more or less heavily influenced by Deicide. Maybe their album "Alien Mind Order" scratches the itch.

And Intrepid, also from Estonia, but they take a broader range of influences from the Floridian sound, from Morbid Angel and Death to Obituary and Deicide. Anyway there may be a couple of songs on their album "Unused Imaginative Capacity" that you would like in this context.

Looking for slow/doom-y death metal with raw production, deep raspy vocals, and pinched harmonics. Please and thank you.

The vocal part of your request is a hard one to accurately pin down, so vocally these might be a bit off? The pinch harmonic one is also a little hard :-D

Mortiferum - Altar of Decay demo.

Cerebral Rot - Execration of Mortality and Odious Descent Into Decay

Civerous - Decrepit Flesh Relic (one of my albums from last year, so fucking good)

Ossuary - Supreme Degradation. Pinch harmonics might be missing slightly here, but this is one of the finest death/doom recordings ever IMHO. Those vocals! Fucking legendary!

These might not all hit the mark for what you are after, but they are all quality and worth investigating :headbang:

I'm sure this has been asked before, but a 267 page thread is a lot to read through...

Deeds of Flesh, Defeated Sanity, Malignancy, Mortal Decay (lesser extent Wormed, Hour of Penance, Suffocation, Dying Fetus) - more bands in this kind of brutal/techy vein?

Disentomb - Saw that you had some scrobbles on your last.fm profile, but perhaps worth checking again?
Anal Stabwound - Technical brutal/slam

Don't remember Disentomb being very techy, more like doomy slam, but yeah I'll check them again. Damn Anal Stabwound is a terrible name but I'll give them a go.

What about Japan's Desecravity? They do lean a little bit into the more spastic style of brutal tech from the likes of Cryptopsy and Origin, but it might scratch your itch.

Is there anything else out there similar to Acid Witch? Stoney death metal with horror movie synths and vibe?

This is a tough one, I can't really think of any bands that basically play pyschedelic stoner/doom metal with death metal vocals.

Closest thing I could think of would be maybe Coffins or Hooded Menace, as Coffins have some groovy riffs and Hooded Menace went for a more traditional metal sound with their newest record, giving it something of a more "rocking" sound. Neither of those bands really have the 70's horror movie vibes that Acid Witch has, but I don't think their style is too far off to where you wouldn't enjoy them.

I'm familiar with both, thanks. And Hooded Menace is pretty great. I'm surprised there aren't more bands like Acid Witch. That sounds just feels natural for a death metal band to adapt.

Are there any death metal bands with a similar sound to Lykathea Aflame? Their ability to combine brutality and technicality with an ethereal, mystical atmosphere is truly one of a kind from what I've heard so far.

I'm already familiar with their previous band Appalling Spawn.

Can anyone recommend some death metal with hardcore or even crust influences, or something adjacent?

Here some death metal and hardcore bands that I enjoy that more or less fits the vibe I'm looking for : Xibalba, Gatecreeper, Spinebreaker, Creeping Death, Kruelty, Outer Heaven, No Zodiac. Black Breath, Year of the Knife, Fuming Mouth, 200 Stab Wounds etc...

Also, I don't mind if there is grindcore influences, if that can help.

I don't listen to death metal with hardcore influences often, but I think something like Ancst, Beyond the Grave (although it's deathcore), Sedimentum, Impious, and Bones might fit, especially Ancst and Bones.

By Bones, you're talking about the Chicago one? If so, I like what I am hearing so far. Same for Sedimentum. They're not totally what I'm looking for, but it's a very nice discovery, from my hometown too! Ancst are a bit too much into black metal territory, but they are not bad at all.

Hi everyone,
Currently obssesed by the band Fleshvessel
https://i-voidhangerrecords.bandcamp.com/album/bile-of-man-reborn
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZA8O8F37EY
And I'm looking for other bands with :

- elaborated compositions (prog/avant-garde)
- some classical instruments (flutes, violins...) and synths
- and round fretless bass (like NE OBLIVISCARIS, Morningrise Opeth, ITP Death, Obscura...)

Only 4 bands are listed in the "Similar artist" of Fleshvessel (Demilish, Timeghoul, Nocturnus and Ingurgitating Oblivion) but they do not really fit this band imo (though like most of them).

Do you have any suggestions ?
Thanks

There is a new band I like called Hyper Psychic. They put out their debut EP called Deeper Psychosis last year. Might be something that interests you

Brutal death metal bands with two (or more) vocalists like Lividity: one who does lows, one who or does highs. Deeds of Flesh and early Dying Fetus come to mind.

Not the hugest death metal fan, so there are a lot of bands I'm just ignorant of. Can anyone recommend bands similar to:

Asphysx
Hail of Bullets
Memoriam
Bolt Thrower

IE: less emphasis on blast-beats, a hint of death-metal 'groove', brutal lower-end, etc.

Asphyxiator from the U.K only released one album but it’s pretty solid Bolt Thrower style death metal with some early 90s Napalm Death.
