I'm trying to remember the name of a death metal band. I can't remember much about it musically, other than it had some rather strange and unorthodox vocals for the genre. Lyrically, the band wrote of incomprehensible and kind of demonic things. I remember there was a song about touching a portal and screaming until the mouth disappeared, and vomited guts turning into a kind of space balloon and floating people off into space.

I was hoping to get some recommendations.

For the past week I have heavily binged on Brutal DM. I am looking for BRUTAL stuff that is supported by intense blast beats on one side and held together by strong riffs on the other side. I am perfectly happy to listen to a bunch of stuff that sounds like one long song as long as it is brutal. Some bands that I consider brutal are the following.

vile Apparition
Vile
anorgasm
jasad
jagal
Disgorge
putrid pile
Cannibal Corpse(geniuses can't leave them out)
Severe Torture
Peshmerga
Perverse Molestation
Neoandertals
Mortician
Morgue's Child
Mindly rotten(positively sick)
Membro Genitali Befurcator
Masturbation
Lust of Decay
Leptotrichia
Kronos
Internecine
Jagal
Jasad
Injury Deepen
Iniquitous Deeds
Infernal Torment
Imprecatory
Incinerate
Human Parasite
Human Filletted
Horde Casket
Guttural Disease
Gurkkhas(some of the best riffs here)
Fulci
Flesh Hoarder
Flesh Consumed
Exulcerate
Ecchymosis
disgorge
Coprobaptized cunthunter
Cerebral Bore
Broken Hope
Brodequin
bleeding Corpse
Beyond Mortal Dreams
anorgasm
Animals Killing People
Amputated
amagortis
abnormal Inhumane

Hopefully someone can point me to some other bands.

Couple of obvious bands I ain't seen you or anyone mention already:

Deeds of Flesh - you'd probably dig their older stuff more than the more recent but it's all good.

Gorgasm - solid mildly techy bdm in the unique leader vein.

Centurian/Nox - excellent blast heavy occult bdm like Deicide cubed. Personally prefer Nox but again it's all good.

Less obvious:

Craniotomy - Slovakian bdm with some slam, overlooked imo.

Disassociative Healing - seeing as you dig Coprobaptized Cunthunter, similar stuff pretty they share members.

Bane - sloppy but savage as fuck Cali brutality, their only album Vehemence is solid with some early Cryptopsy vibes.

Fibroma - little known Argentine band, really cool stuff with a good mix of old and new bdm influences. Their 2014 album is great with some real catchy riffing, haven't heard much of the new one which I need to correct asap

Thanks @Rippingheadache

Some comments:-

Amputated Genitals--A great BDM band(truly) which I had somehow browsed through but never put on my playlist.
Vocals are some of the best ones I have heard. Very guttural and appropriate to the music.

Borken Torso -- I did listen to this and liked it as well. It sounds like a melodic DM band on steroids.

Condemned -- Never did hear of them. Just heard them on yt. seems to be good on first listen.

embryonic devourment -- Definite a legit brutal DM act.

Forgotten -- legit IBDM. Very aggressive. vocalist sounds like he is on fire.

Pyphomgertum -- old but good

Nailshitter -- Can't say I was blown away but it does have an aggressive sound

Ton -- was impressed. good shit.

vomit forth -- great stuff

All in all, I would say that the pick of the lot is :--TON

Dissociative Healing -- that's some good stuff

Craniotomy -- yes .. lot of slams. kind of stays in the slam side most of the time.

Centurian -- is of course really good

Nox -- same here. really good.

Bane -- def dig it. sounds good.

Fibroma -- def good and aggressive. got that punch in the sound.

I'm beginning to enjoy a lot of stuff that I was previously not enjoying. For example, blarg223 has a really cool Death Metal list on rym called 'Furious Blasting Death Metal'.

I listened to a bunch of bands on that list and I liked a lot what I heard.

here's the list:

https://rateyourmusic.com/list/Morguelo ... ath-metal/

I heard the following:

abhorrence
Absent
Arhont
azarath
Beyond Mortal Dreams
Centurian
Chaos Inception
destroying Divinity
Diabolic
Dies Irae
Excommunion
Exmortem
fleshtized
Funeratus
Gurkkhas
Hate Eternal

so far these are what I've heard. I was having some trouble with this kind of sound earlier but now I am able to synthesize it pretty well.

I guess what I am looking for with this present request is something that is very blast beat heavy. I mean I want to
hear stuff like Disgorge with blast beats from beginning to end.

Or something like the above list.

Basically this is a very broad question. I'm looking to increase my Death Metal Awareness.

Some Brazilian bands like Rebaelliun and Ancestral Malediction have made great slabs of blast-heavy death metal. Perhaps try those.

yeah rebaelliun is really cool. I hadn't heard ancerstral malediction before but that's good too.

I am now going through Morguelords second list on BDM --blasting sickness.

There's some good shit on it as well.

https://rateyourmusic.com/list/Morguelo ... -sickness/

I've been listening to:

Bowel Stew
Buccal Defecation
Blaze Inside
Cadavoracity
Carnal(NZ)
cinerary
Coprobaptized Cunthunter
Dissociative Healing
Ecchymosis

etc..

I wanted to hear some genuinely morbid sounding Brutal DM(non-slam) like Putrid Pile etc. Stuff that conjures up impressions of mental illness. Basically very simple sounding stuff that relies on the shock value musically speaking of say constant blasting or very distorted inhuman vocals.
I'm basically looking for anything that has that edginess to it psychologically speaking. The rawness of pure aggression.

Lately I'm listening to a lot of OSDM and OSDM sounding bands.

Imprecation
Antropomorphia
Necrophiliac
Avulsed
Sorcery
Wombbath
Sorcery
Gorement
Interment
Torchure

etc.

If someone can make any suggestions here that would be great.

Hey sonic, here's some random OSDM favs

Psychosis - My Private Hell: Weird, spastic death metal
Hardware - Souls Vortex: Raw Mexican death metal with occasional synths.
Headrot - Among the Remains: Raw-sewage sounding proto brutal death metal
Cenotaph - The Gloomy Reflections of our Hidden Sorrows: Swampy, esoteric death metal from Mexico.
Nefarion - Self-Immolatiion for Daemonic Positioning: Deicide worship
Morpheus - Son of Hypnos: Atypical sounding Swedish death metal. Very strange mixing job on this one.
Disgrace - Grey Misery: Obscenely heavy knuckle-dragging Finnish death metal.

@RippingHeadache,

Yes very typical recommendations. All sound very raw and sound good in their own way. However, I was looking for stuff more along the lines of Infester, Malevolent Creation, Monstrosity, etc.

If you got names then certainly let me know.

PS:Of the ones you did mention I liked Morpheus and Disgrace the most.

EDIT:--On second thoughts when I hear these bands the second time they sound a lot better. Better give it time.

EDIT 2:-On second listen I can say all these mentioned bands sound good.

EDIT 3:-Some of these are really cool finds. Possibly deserving of the title of 'hidden gems'.

Morbid Angel are a unique contributor to the death metal genre because they contained both a unique drummer as well as a unique guitarist. Pete Sandoval is considered the father of the blast-beat whereas Azagthoth is a masterful guitarist and song writer.

I am looking for other bands that sound like them let's say from the Altars to Gateway era.

Hey! Glad my previous recs grew on you. And yeah, Morbid Angel's brand of death metal is certainly distinctive and unique. All their stuff up to Gateways covers a wide array of styles so I'll try name bands that at least resemble them at some point of their evolution.

For that classic early MA sound

Ascended Dead - Abhorrent Manifestation
Beyond - Fatal Power of Death
Mortem - Decomposed by Possession

For more unique bands with definite MA influences:

Anata: I'm specifically referring to their first album here (Infernal Depths of Hatred). While technical and melodic, there's definite shades of "Blessed are the Sick"

Mithras: Sounds like mid-to-late era MA but much more psychedelic. The astral leads definitely recalls Azagthoth signature style.

Liked Mortem the most. Pretty grim sounding.

Mithras:-Got some FFTTF vibes.

Anata:-a bit upbeat but listenable

Ascended Dead/Beyond--still listening

Angelcorpse sounds a lot like Morbid Angel in the riffs, but they splice it with war-metal-isms.

That's nice album, I have LP.

Try Epitaph - Seeming Salvation, God Macabre - The Winterlong, Convulse - World Without God, Authorize - Source of Dominion, Gorement - Ending Quest... there's so much good quality death metal records from 90s.

I am looking for Death Metal with a PSYCHEDELIC twist.

Some of the bands I have found so far are Mordicus, Uncanny, Crypt of Kerberos

Sounds like you're after a more old school progressive death metal sound that psychedelic with those band references. If that's the case, take a look at Egde of Sanity - The Spectral Sorrows, Catacomb - In the Maze of Kadath, Nocturnus - The Key and stuff like that..

I haven't found much psychedelic death metal like we know it from fx the BM scene. But check out Skeleton of God - Primordial Domination, Morbus Chron - Sweven and Execration - Odes of the Occult

solid recs. thanks.

I really like Catacomb-In the Maze of Kadath. I had heard it before but didn't pay as much attention to it. Edge of Sanity is not my thing. Nocturnus is again really great.

EDIT:-Morbus Chron really solid DM too.

EDIT 2:Execration really solid DM as well.

EDIT 3:-I liked Sleepers in the Rift more than Sweven by Morbus Chron.

EDIT 4:I gave Spectral Sorrows a listen as well. It's definitely not bad and sounds quite a different act than what is shown in Crimson

You're welcome. Glad you like Catacomb, definitely my favorite of the first three. For more of that old school sound look at Mexican band Cenotaph and their album The Gloomy Reflection of Our Hidden Sorrows. Definitely not as progressive as say Catacomb, but an old gem anyway.

Execration - Odes of the Occult is one of my absolute personal favorites from the last 10 years. So good. Check out their other albums too, especially the two latest, there might be more of the stuff you're looking for. You could also check out another Norwegian DM band in the same vein, Obliteration, they're really well liked here on metal archvies though I myself vastly prefer Execration.

I really like Sweven, but Sleepers in the Rift is closer to standard swedeath which doesn't do a lot for me.

There are also some newer bands you can check out. Nothing like Catacomb or Nocturnus, but they might be cool for you anyway:

Ataraxy - Where All Hope Fades
Chthe'ilist - Le dernier crépuscule

You could also take a look at Blood Incantation. I see you were also looking for Morbid Angel-sounding bands and they're a recommendation that kinda fits just between your search for MA stuff and progressive stuff.

Good recs.

I found a good band .. let me know what you think of them..

Ataraxy and Cthhelist I like both.

The gloomy reflections was already recommended by RippingHeadache. It's a good album.

I wonder if anyone can recommend some dead honest Brutal Death Metal in the vein of Cannibal Corpse and Severe Torture.

Qualities I am looking for .. the riffs and drumming carry the song. It's heavy. The vocals are ultra guttural.

Some bands I like are Gorgasm, Nox etc. Some bands I somehow never managed to like are Hate Eternal, Hour of Penance.

@Xenophon, Temisto is not bad.

Lately I have discovered that Defeated Sanity is a really unique Brutal DM band. I am looking for other bands like them. I like them because of the extremely talented drummer they have. I am going through the Similar Artists list on MA but would like some inputs as well.

If you don't mind programmed drums, then maybe check out the first Scrambled Defuncts album? It's chaotic and labyrinthine as anything Defeated Sanity put out.

Jamie Saint Merat of Ulcerate is one of the sickest drummers in death metal and though Ulcerate isn't BDM or sound like Defeated Sanity, give them a listen. "Organic" tech death for lack of a better word, one of the best bands from the last 15 years.

And Wormed. Definitely Wormed.

I found a good band .. let me know what you think of them..

Sadistic Intent is pretty cool. Saw them back in '12 at Kill Town Death Fest.

RippingHeadache,

Scrambled Defunct's first album is a hell of a piece of DM. I really liked it.

andersbang,

Ulcerate shrines of paralysis is pretty cool. Wormed I had some difficulty getting into the last time I tried. I'll give it another go.

I pretty much love all of Ulcerate's albums, but their crowning achievement will always be Everything is Fire, so take a look at that album. Wormed isn't a very welcoming band, but if you're starting to like Defeated Sanity I'd say give it a go. Krighsu is amazing.

Now we're going a bit further away from the classic BDM sound of Defeated Sanity, but you could also give Commit Suicide - Synthetics and either of Artificial Brains two albums a listen.

I just spent the past hour listening to three of Severe Torture's albums Feasting on Blood/Fall of the Despised/Sworn Vengeance and I cannot describe the energy I felt.

I'm listening to Wormed Krighsu right now and damn if it isn't good.

@RippingHeadache, doesn't Scrambled Defuncts have a real drummer. It certainly does not sound like a drum machine.
