Ok So I really like slam death metal. I have heard all of the famous bands. Can someone recommend me something that really sticks in memory and is slam. I am looking for the chugga chugga sound and the rolling double bass.

Some of my favorite slam I've heard in recent years would be:

- Agonal Breathing
- Crepitation
- Gorepot

For all time favs:

- Artery Eruption
- 7 H. Target

Currently spinning Unravel's debut EP right now and I'm interested in hearing more DM/Hardcore (NOT Deathcore). Balls-to-the-wall DM riffage with the violent aggression of hardcore, basically. I know of Venom Prison but that's about it.

Creeping Death fits the bill. They're on tour with Power Trip shortly.

I'm very much in the mood for Mortician's mid/low tempo stuff. Must have horror theme though!

This is probably too vague, but what would be considered the essential Death Metal that fans of the genre should listen to? I've already heard Seven Churches and Scream Bloody Gore.

There's an incredible amount of excellent death metal from the late 80s/early 90s but here's some of the first to pop into my head when I think of that era.

Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos
Master - Master
Carcass - Symphonies of Sickness
Repulsion - Horrified
Pestilence - Consuming Impulse
Deicide - Deicide
Cannibal Corpse - Eaten Back to Life
Entombed - Left Hand Path
Dismember - Like an Everflowing Stream
Hypocrisy - Penetralia

I would also like to mention Obituary.

It's 2019 with all our modern day digital advantages. If you don't have one already, make a last.fm account, and use digital streaming services, both have recommendation functions. You're really going to need something like that, because as thrashmaniac87 already mentioned there's an absolute fuckton of classic death metal that should be considered essential, far more than this thread could ever list for you.

Anything thats on the slam/deathcore and more ignorant beatdown centric slam so stuff like:

Ingested
Awaiting the Autopsy
Begging for Incest
Guttural Slug
Cerebral Incubation
Extermination Dismemberment
Disfiguring the Goddess
Waking the Cadaver

Also a bunch of that beatdown centric deathcore like No Zodiac that seems to be all over Slam Worldwide nowadays

It is a bit superficial but maybe worth listening to for a change of rhythm.

Another Request.

What would your recommendations of regular DEath metal be to someone who is not new to the genre and generally likes the death metal formula of the old masters such as Incantation, Benediction, Master, Obituary etc.

For older bands you might've missed

Impaler - Charnel Deity
Accidental Suicide - Deceased
Excavation - Psychotic Possession
Judecca - Beyond What the Eyes Can't See

As for newer stuff pretty much anything released by the Maggot Stomp label.

Sinister, Hate and Vader all have extensive and consistent discographies.

Presently listening to Excavation Psychotic Possession and Impaler-Charnel Deity. Both are quite extreme. Impaler is good. Excavation is not bad either. I tried listening to Maggot Stomp. They've got some good stuff.

Deathevokation - The Chalice of Ages

I remember these guys were fairly hyped back in the day and sorta just fizzled out. Their lone album was a solid slab of slow, OSDM.

For slow death metal, also worth mentioning are the following:

Tomb Mold
Drawn and Quartered
Ritual Necromancy
Necrot

etc..

Could anyone recommend some death-doom metal with a dark, occult, or mystical atmosphere and feel to it? Normal death also welcome.

For mystical doom/death metal, try Morgion's Among Majestic Ruins and Mythological Cold Towers's Sphere of Nebaddon.

For something more occult and dark, perhaps Tiamat's The Astral Sleep maybe. It's much more diverse than your ordinary doom/death metal album though.

Glad you enjoy it! For something occult-like perhaps Argentum's debut might be your thing, too. it's a bit closer to black/doom metal, but I think doom/death metal fans might enjoy it, too. It's rather same-y, though and at times doesn't riff hard enough, but the highlights are fucking incredible.

this is a pretty general question.

I'm bingeing a lot on Suffocation and Cannibal Corpse and am looking to take it further. what would be the most advisable way to do that.

For similar stuff to Cannibal

Regurgitation - Tales of Necrophilia
Skulmagot - Skulled to Death
Organic Infest - Penitence
Mortem - Amputator
Necrophil - Cannibal Sex
Agonia - Breed

I've uploaded the Agonia EP from my own collection since the other YT links have the wrong RPM.

Not obvious. Will re-listen to them. Meanwhile what I meant about slayer was that whole technical thing that Slayer do so well that I want to find in a DM record.

To me ''Slayer'' and ''technical'' don't really go together. Could you explain what you mean?

Well I actually meant proficient. Slayer are rather good with their instruments I must say.

Any death metal with a dark, occult medieval atmosphere? I feel heaps of it when listening to MA's Covenant. Obvious recs welcome.
