Yes. That's very close. If someone had said it was a new Comatose Vigil Album I would have believed them.

Any bands releasing good new music in the style of Funeral's In Fields of Pestilence Grief after 2010 or so?

Can anyone recommend some music in the vein of OM and Phurpa?

Thanks for the recommendations. Omit seems interesting, I think I'll order their last two albums. Trees of Eternity hasn't really been my thing, I remember the demos as well and it always felt a bit bland. I remember Lethian Dreams as well, but remember them as being a second-rate band, anything in particular you recommend?

Try these two:
https://avainferiofficial.bandcamp.com/album/onyx (dynamic atmo doom)
https://herodias.bandcamp.com/album/cult-of-herodias (rather dull funeral doom, but the female vocals are perfect)

I don't know them so well...

ps: about Omit, PM me if you want to get their first album (my favourite)

Yeah, that voice deserves much more

I can only second the Lethian Dreams recommendation; check out Red Silence Lodge in particular, it has an ethereal, slightly post-rockish vibe. The female vocals are dignified and sober but full of emotions. And then Remembrance would be a band to give some attention to as well..

I know this is kind of a specific request but I'm looking for more in the vein of Turn Loose the Swans-Searr Me 1993 by My Dying Bride.

Zaum' singer has another band, Shevil. A tad less trippy, but fine stoner doom nonetheless:

And it seems to me rather reasonable to point also at The Wounded Kings' magnificent The Shadow over Atlantis for another slice of excellent psyche ethereal doom.

I'm looking for death/doom bands without a gothic atmosphere. Even though I like bands like Tristania, I want to hear something different from that. I want a very heavy doom metal sound with growled vocals. Death metal elements are welcome. Ideally it shouldn't be too slow, so I don't think funeral doom applies here. Basically I want a death-doom band with an attitude of death metal. Some examples of what I want:

Not really doom metal, but gives you an idea.

The guitar tone at 1:27 is what I'm looking for. It's crushingly heavy. If they had less clean vocals and gothic elements, they would be close to what I want.

Same with Candlemass, they are heavy, but I don't want clean vocals or atmospheric elements (maybe a little, but not that much).

This is definitely close to what I'm looking for, thank you. The only thing I don't like is that the guitars are not very loud, if they were more like that song from MBD, this band would be almost perfect.

@Diplomate:
Tell me if I'm on the right track, I hear something elegiac and the echo of a fading glory in that MDB riff. But you need some death-ish attitude too.

Well, I can think of Evoken (Shades of Night Descending) , Runemagick (Envenom), Indesinence (Neptunian), Serpentine Path (st), Thorns of the Carrion (The Gardens of Dead Winter)... Stuff like that, no?

there're many more like this.

edit: come to think of it, maybe the recs I did here above are verging a bit to far into the funerary genre. There's a band that I'm thinking of this morning that is quite interesting, it's Excruciation from Swizerland, their album [t]horns does have some gothic leanings, but more in the vein of Celtic Frost, it's still sharp and really heavy. Check it out.

Anyone have any note worthy 2019 epic and trad doom metal releases they could recommend. Only two great releases that come to mind are the new Altar of Oblivion and Spirit Adrift albums. Thanks!

I loved Black Lotus; it's from 2018 but maybe you didn't hear the album?

Another great discovery for me is this quite diverse doom project, released in 2019, Thronehammer, it's glorious and tragic, it conveys an engaging, thrilling atmosphere all along, strongly supported by a fine wailing clean voice complemeted by some growls. Some quite subtle stuff, very solid too.

Grief Collector from 2019 with Rob Lowe is nice too. I had higher hopes though.

(I wasn't aware of a new AOO... great news, and it sounds good so far!)

I feel like there's been a CLAMOR about Smoulder lately. Surely you're up on Smoulder right? One look at their LP artwork should let you know exactly what to expect.

I recently found this band End of Green. I don't listen to much doom metal (I'm more into doom/death) but their Infinity album is pretty good. Any recommendations for similar bands?
