My envy is gone by now, because I just noticed this:

Going to this as well, but it's a special edition with just Pantheist and Skepticism and Cantar as support. The gig takes place in a church :metal:

i just listened to the self-titled album from Salome last night, i would recommend that. Female singer who can outscream most guys...plus some seriously cool slowed-down sabbath riffing. kind of in the Monarch! (another great band and good rec) mold but Salome is more to the rock side while monarch! is more to the drone side.

I think this is the third time I recommend it in this thread:

Solstice - New Dark Age

Your description is pretty much accurate, actually.

EDIT: Haha, damn, I just saw that Unholy_Asar recommended their debut a couple of posts above. Well, I think the follow-up is better.

Alright so I've checked out both Solstice and Solitude Aeturnus (who I had heard of but had never actually heard), I like them both a lot. Any other suggestions for stuff in the same vein?

Some epic doom metal bands from the top of my head:

All Souls' Day, Dark Quarterer, Fall of the Idols, Forsaken (Mlt), Great Coven, Griftegård, Heathendom, Icefall, Litany, Millarca, Raven Black Night, Scald, Silent Hill, Sorcerer, Sorrows Path, The Doomsday Cult, Thunderstorm (Ita), Tristitia (the "The Last Grief" album), Veni Domine and While Heaven Wept.

Some of these have probably been mentioned before, but what the hell.

Check out Catacombs from the US. Very good. Only released one EP and one Full Length. I prefer the EP but the Full Length is excellent as well.

Can some one recomend me some really good down tempo doom metal?

Something long, drawn out, epic, heavy. I absolutely LOVE Shape Of Dispair and Ahab but I have yet to find anything else to really forfill my Funeral Doom craving like they have.

Perhaps Mournful Congregation, Doom:VS and Tyranny. Ahab sounds a lot like Tyranny so you'll probably like them.

Been looking into more stoner/doom lately, my collection is very lacking in that area. I listened on youtube to a few songs by Acid Bath, and then bought both their albums and the live DVD. Any band similar to this, with stuff easy to find? I'm really tired of adding things to my wanted list and never finding them.

Weedeater, Sourvein or Bongzilla maybe. Sludgy stoner kind of stuff.

Can someone enlighten me on Memory Garden. Are they any good? I'm not that big on Power Metal but I do like some bands (Virgin Steele, Manilla Road, Slough Feg, Manowar) but I really like anything that's epic.

I'd say they're worth checking out, just make sure it's not their new album. ;)

Just heard the new Candlemass songs, guess what? Doom by numbers! One fast song with decent verses and a goofy chorus and then a doom song by numbers. Gee Leif, I'd never have guessed. Lars puts in a good lead guitar performance (no change there) but the rest of it seems a bit tired. Of their recent stuff the album with Messiah was by far the best and strangely enough felt the most like Candlemass.

Thanks, will check them all out soon. The Acid Bath CDs and DVD came, absolutely amazing stuff. Dax is a great vocalist, Scream of the Butterfly is a great song especially.

May want to try Eyehategod if you haven't already heard of them. They are more on the doom side of sludge than they are the stoner.

I've heard of them, have yet to look into it though, will add it to the list. Just purchased Bongzilla's Apogee, Gateway, and Amerijuanican off amazon.com, by the way. The track samples sounded really good, exactly what I'm looking for.

The Funeral Orchestra

Funeral Doom was perfected on Feeding the Abyss, IMO.

Does anyone know some good sludge metal bands with maybe some thrash or progressive influences?

Or if there is a thread for sludge, can somebody give me the link...

Is there any traditional-styled doom, like Candlemass, except with harsh vocals? I know there's some in funeral doom, but I don't know of any such vocals from the original style.

Some requisites:

Black Sabbath - s/t
Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Saint Vitus - Born Too Late, s/t
Sleep - Holy Mountain (stoner)

The first three are epitomes of the traditional doom movement, especially Sabbath's debut. The last one, while not as much doom metal, is still excellent.

Can't think of any pure thrash/sludge bands, but Lair of the Minotaur come fairly close to that. Other than that, Arson Anthem and Raw Radar War are basically EHGs faster sections strung out to entire songs, so while they're far more punk than thrash they have much of the tempo and attitude down.

Crust punk in general might be what you're looking for. Possibly.

As for prog, I can't think of any.

I'm listening to Eyehategod's debut right now, and I must say I'm rather blown away! If I listen to it as hardcore instead of metal, it becomes quite enjoyable.

I would like to add Electric Wizard - Dopethrone. They, like Sleep, are stoner/doom but I think you would be doing yourself a favor if you give them a listen.

Thanks for the suggestions. I found some bands I like. Catacombs, Doom:VS, Tyranny, Mournful Congregation, Mourning Beloveth.

Is there anything thats long and drags out but changes up quite a bit? I think thats why Ahab stand out so much to my ears because even though they play for so long, they are constantly progressing and changing while mantaining a heaviness.
