I'm looking for bands with guttural or "brutal as hell" vocal styles, but aren't strictly Goregrind, Brutal Death Metal, or even Grindcore. The best examples of this I can think of are Lykathea Aflame and Akercocke. The recommendations can be of any genre, even folk or power, actually, especially one of those two, because that would make an interesting band, to say the least. To sum it all up, I'm really looking for brutal vocals where they usually wouldn't be, but they have to be integrated nicely into the songs and such. I think that's about it... oh yeah, no deathcore. I'm looking forward to checking out some of these recs...

Oh yeah, also, brutal death/goregrind covers of non-brutal death/goregrind songs would be nice as well.

Arghoslent? They play a mix between death and heavy metal, with a heavy NWOBHM influence. And with harsh growls.

I'm listening to Galloping Through the Battle Ruins right now, and yes, this is definitely along the lines of what I am looking for. Death vocals with loads of traditional heavy metal riffage, awesome stuff. The vocals could be a bit lower, but a great band nonetheless. Thanks for the rec, man.

Not exactly what you're looking for in the vocal department, I don't think, but I always love to throw Crimson Shadows out there. Super speedy power metal with brutal vocals (not really guttural).

No...not what I'm looking for at all... This sounds like the bastard child of Dragonforce and Trivium. Sorry if I'm being a bit harsh, but I greatly dislike this.:( Thanks for trying, though.

The entire Funeral Doom genre falls under this umbrella.

No problem, at least you tried.

Mind reccommending some specific bands/albums? Unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with the Funeral Doom scene.

There really isn't much funeral doom that I wouldn't recommend. But I'd start with diSEMBOWELMENT, Evoken, Catacombs, Thergothon, Unholy, Shape of Despair, Skepticism and Thorr's Hammer [the extra R is important]

Alright, thanks, I'll begin to check these guys out soon. I've been meaning to get into doom for a while now but never quite had the initiative to do so.

Your recommending Funeral Doom without Wormphlegm, isn't that heresy?

There a combo of Funeral Doom and Drone that isn't annoying (the drone).

The vocals jump around between a bellow similar to that of someone in excruciating pain (basically translates to any random given decent brutal death growl slowed down by about 50times), and a scream of the same style. And as in tradition of Funeral Doom as I said, it's extremlet slow and dragged out, therefore one word = 10 seconds.

Forgot about Misericordiam, They have som of the most brutal music as a whole, vocals no exception, ever. Genre wise they are somewhere around a mix of Deathcore,Brutal Death Metal, and Grindcore. Though only one of their releases is in this style, the others are bland generic Deathcore. Their EP Unamity and the Cessation of Hostility is a must have for any fan of brutality. The band was recommended to me by MikeyC in my Most brutal band Thread sometime last year, If you can find it, read through it (and ignore my Mikey worship post) and you will find some good suggestions.

Edit: It is somewhere in the Metal Discussion a search function should make your life easier.

2nd Edit: Found the link.

The later stuff of Profanum is black metal vocals with classical style acoustic guitar and violin, Splatter Whore has thrashy riffs with screams and watery gurgles, Rompeprop has gurgles but with non-brutal death riffs.

Infester. The vocals sound like early Devourment (think Babykiller and their other demo songs) but the music is Blackish Death.

Novembers Doom, specifically the later stuff (The Novella Reservoir) - their earlier works are straight doom metal, their newer stuff is cleaner, somewhat death metal oriented. Amazing vocalist for both growls and cleans, and you can understand what he says.

You should check out Vo Skorbyah; Russian funeral doom with a mix of really brutal harsh vox and clean female singing.

You should check out Convulse. It sounds like what you're looking for. They're what you call "Death N Roll." Listen to the album "Reflections" Its like death metal vocals with rock music. Its really unique.

No I know that, but the OP doesn't want pure death metal. He wants Death metal vocals in non death metal music.

Intestine Baalism has lord worm type vocals and the half the music sounds like an early Dark Tranquillity album. they may be what you are looking for.

You know what else might fit the bill? Swansong era Carcass. They used to be purely sick goregrind on Swansong they sort of became the whole Death N Roll type thing. The vocals didn't really change since Necroticism but the music sure did. It's still really awesome. I Recommend the songs Edge of Darkness, Black Star, I Told you So, and Keep On Rotting In The Free World

Check out Svartsot. They're a cool folk metal band that incorporate some pretty low growls into their songs.

He said he wanted "non brutal death or goregrind" bands and puts Lykathe Aflame as an example in his OP.

Most of 80's thrash metal bands from Brazil have brutal vocals - check out Chakal, Mutilator, Attomica, Holocausto, Vulcano, Sextrash.

Not exactly what you're looking for but Cage, a power metal band, have used quite a bit of death/black vocals in their album Darker Than Black. I think you might find it interesting:
