Anyways: Cephalectomy
Strange stuff, Norwegian progressive vegetarian grindcore, one might say. Certainly more melodic than usual.

Hah, I thought that said Cephalotripsy for about half a second. They're pretty much anti-melody.

Same thing happened to me when I first stumbled upon them, basically. The fact that the name itself would rather suggest a dime-a-dozen brutal/slam death band didn't help matters either.
Take my word for it, don't let that name scare you off.

I actually listen to a lot of dime-a-dozen slam stuff haha. I just have terrible taste

I did check them out though, and it's like nothing I've heard before.

What are the other God Dethroned albums like? I'm enjoying Bloody Blasphemy

this is sad that nothing from god dethroned could match the songs like "execution protocol" and "firebreath".

I would reccomend to listen more black metal oriented bands like behemoth,marduk,susperia(vindication/unlimited).This stuff has good epic melodies, not like funny ones from Cannibal corpse.

I forgot to add, try Martyrium Christi. Very heavy, but keeps the melody.

Formaldehyde offer their album available for free download.

Not the most brutal release ever, nor the most melodic, it has a bit of both in there. So, kinda what you want right? They're in the "band sanctioned downloads" thread, here's the original post:

portuguese death metal band. neither melodic, nor brutal...a bit of the two world, i may say... check it out...

Also, you might like Benighted (Fra). They can be pretty brutal at times, but have a very strong sense of melody.

All death metal is 'brutal' to varying degrees.
All music is 'melodic'.

I agree with you.

if you haven't tried them already Pyaemia are also quite catchy and melodic while remaining very brutal. Prostitute Disfigurement have some very melodic stuff, as to Severe Torture. Maybe there's somethingabout Dutch brutal death and melody :O

You know, every time I think I've heard the dumbest thing, someone comes along to correct that assumption.

Although I could never get into them, I always get recommendations for Defeated Sanity. You could also try the first two Neuraxis albums, which are quite melodic, but with "brutal" vocals.

Defeated Sanity are godly but not especially melodic.

I totally second Gorgasm.

Vital Remains' newest album, "Icons of Evil" is exactly what you're looking for.
