Draconian are my favourite doom metal band. Anyone know anything that sounds like them, I have been searching for a while, and the only thing that is even close is How Like a Winter, Estatic Fear, and Luna Obscura. These are all good bands. I was wondering if there was anything else like these? I have heard a lot of Death Doom but to me Draconian are more gothic doom, and Swallow the Sun & Daylight Dies are brilliant Death Doom, but I'm not really looking for bands like this. Thanks in advance

Have you tried some of the early forms of gothic metal? Theatre of Tragedy's first two albums have sizable amounts of doom in them while retaining the beauty & the beast vocal style.

You said death doom wasn't your thing, so I take it you ruled out early My Dying Bride also? Songs of Darkness, Words of Light is still worth checking out, and it may work for you. It's considerably later in their career, and the most enjoyable album they have.

This one lacks the presence of harsh vocals, but The 3rd and the Mortal - Tears Laid In Earth, has quite the doom sound to it, although I wouldn't call it gothic. This one's more of a long-shot, but I suppose it's worth a try.

I like Theatre's first 3 albums, they are genius. I really really love death doom I wasn't saying I don't like it, but I have tons and tons, and I was just looking for some more gothic doom, like Draconian. Thankyou and I will check out the last one, I listen to MDB all the time so I don't need to check them

Try Thalarion, they're like Luna Obscura and Draconian but with a bit more growling. Also you could try Tales of Dark, they use clean male vocals, growls and female vocals and are pretty similiar to My Dying Bride. Also try Virgin Black's Requiem albums if you havent already (Fortissimo is very Death/Doom, Mezzo Forte is more gothic doom), and The Sins of thy Beloved, who are sorta like Draconian but with strong violins and a doomier sound.

Probably the same place that spawned AIDS and Dani Filth.

Well, if it is the somewhat melodramatic elements of Draconian that you like, I have two quick recommendations:

Morphia
Desire (the Portuguese one)

What about Type O Negative? That's Gothic Metal with Doom influences, could possibly pay to have a listen. "Christian Woman" is a great song to start with. Not sure if Type O would be heavy enough however.

Alright so I did some more digging last night / today, and I've got a couple recs that'll hopefully redeem myself from my last post.

Amederia - Sometimes We Have Wings - uses the same beauty and the beast style of vocals, but there's a lot more piano / other instruments present; think of it like Draconian only not as heavy at times. A random sidenote, but the vocalist sounds a lot like Johan from Amon Amarth, at least I thought so.

Ashes You Leave - The Inheritance of Sin and Shame - same deal, only this seems to have more of a straight-up doom feel. They have a pretty sizeable discography too, and their band page has pretty solid reviews all around, so I think all of it would be worth checking out.

Hope these help more!

Thanks to the person who reccomended me Tales of the Dark they are pretty good, am trying the 3rd and the mortal at the moment and that has its moments but isn't brilliant. Still waiting for the othert stuiff to download

Have you tried Swallow The Sun. They sound so much like Draconian that I couldn't get into them - seemed like they were imitating a bit too much.

How about Luna Obscura from Greece?
Not exactly Gothic Doom, but there's quite a few similarities.

There's a really good band from Italy called The Foreshadowing. There's no female vocals, but they play melodic gothic doom akin to Draconian. Check them out here: http://www.myspace.com/theforeshadowing

For the record, I only like Arcane Rain Fell simply because the album cover gives you a good insight into what the songs sound like...very melodic and tragically beautiful epics that leave you with a sense of longing and despair once it's over. The same can't be said for previous and subsequent releases...they're very bland and dull records. Their latest effort is just straight-up gothic metal with bits and pieces of doom...pretty boring gothic metal at that. ARF really is their only good recording.

I have got Foreshadowing, due to them being similar to How Like A Winter, haven't got round to listening yet, will do soon.

I disagree with what you say about Draconian. I love all their demos, their unique approach to death metal was very good, and their first album is just as good as Arcane Rain Fell. The Cry of Silence is my favourite track by them, aside from Death Come near me, and I like all the songs on it. And their lyrics = pure poetry

The new one is a step away. While I think it is good I hope it doesn't lead to even softer albums, and go down the Sirenia route - their second album was good, but showed that their was shit to come, if you know what I mean

I recently got into Lethian Dreams. Their latest album just came out and it sounds really good!

thanks so much for the upload, definitely one of the best doom metal bands I have ever heard, its like a combination of estatic fear and draconian. I don't think I'll play much else through my ipod for weeks!
