Since I got into metal a bunch of years ago, I only cared for the more extreme edge of metal. I'm more into thrash and stuff, actually. Anyway, I suddenly feel like being in the right mood for cheesy hard rock and catchy, extremely enjoyable power metal. Something you like to blast when you feel like banging your head off, you know? Basically, I want something that sounds full of joy. Something that is amazingly fun to listen to. Got an idea?

Edguy's new album is pretty good and fits your description.

The three albums Omen made in the 80s are epic and catchy as hell.
J.D Kimball's voice has sort of a classic hard rock quality.I think songs like Be my wench and bring out the beast from the Battlecry album are what youre looking for.

Armored Saint and old Savatage would also fit this description.Try Symbol of salvation and Hall of the mountain king.

Armored Saint is a good pick, but I think most importantly WASP comes to mind here. Not that I'd say they're that hard rock-ish, despite their looks. The debut, The Last Command, The Headless Children, and The Crimson Idol I'd all easily recommend. Fun, ballsy metal.

Omen and Savatage are good picks, but Omen isn't really hard rockish PM. They're just a regular Heavy Metal band, and they do it better than most other bands. I think the OP would enjoy them anyway.

Seconding that Edguy - Tinnitus Sanctus rec here. It's really quite a well written album of controlled hook-laden mastery.

How about some Rob Rock? Gardens of Chaos is essential.

Midnight Sun "Metal Machine" and Taraxacum "Spirit of Freedom". Those are probably the most fun, hard-rocking pm albums I've heard. Absolute Steel's "Womanizer" is rather fun too (esp. the song "Beer Run").

This. Their self-titled is even more relevant to your request, but The Crimson Idol is a better album.

They are exactly what he wants. Pure cheesy greatness.

Of course, they are not "Hard Rock-ish" but he would probably enjoy them.

What about Black Stone Cherry? Groove, catchiness, singalong choruses, kitschy lyrics and riff-ladden.

The cheesy part I agree with, but not the greatness part. Oh well, maybe he will like them. They just aren't hard rockish or PM.

There is a sad lack of Lizzy Borden in this thread. There's nobody better when it comes to a cheesy style of USPM. I recommend Love Me to Pieces; if "American Metal" isn't exactly what you're looking for, I'll be extremely surprised.

They can get incredibly cheesy at times, but they're music is definitely fun and up-beat. Each of their songs vary in styles, but with a dab of fantasy to it. It's more on the hard rockish side, but I'll give its got power metal to boot.

Fun power/traditional metal bands: Primal Fear, Accept, and Wolf. I would recommend all 3 very highly.

If you want some metal that's catchy and full of that feel good factor capable of putting a smile on the face of a Michael Jackson fan (couldn't think of nothing sadder), then Demon is your band. Any of the first two albums will do.
I'm not certain how many Demon's there is out there, though I mean the English ones, can't go wrong with some bona fide NWOBHM.

I second early Savatage - the Sirens album sounds exactly like what you're looking for.

Riot's Guy Speranza albums are also a good idea. Outlaw and Warrior are fucking anthems.

This. If you don't mind the southern/post-grunge vibe, but despite these attributes a great band and indeed amazingly fun to listen too.

Also, more hard-rockish:
Spiritual Beggars - Demons (extremely recommended!)
Fatal Smile - Neo Natural Freaks

more power-metalish:
Solar Fragment - A Spark Of Deity
Pagan's Mind - *pretty much everything, I think, but I'm best acquainted with "Enigmatic: Calling"*

Not exactly power, but Tank is one of my favorite bands. Some of there stuff is straight up hardrock, mixed with motorhead styled speed metal. Great stuff!

Keeper of the Seven Key Pt. II is great for this. But, word of advice, just play Eagle Fly Free, Rise and Fall, Dr. Stein, and I Want Out over and over on repeat.

Not really hard rockish?^^

This fits pretty well, a solid 80's hard rocking power metal sound is Overlorde's "Return of the Snow Giant".

Well Edguy has already been mentioned, they are surely one of the most joyfull bands(the videos are funny too).

Axxis could fit well, their earlier work is rather hardrock(Kingdom of the Night), while their newer stuff is power metal. Kingdom of the Night is great though its rather hardrock than power metal.
Their last album "Doom of Destiny" is funny as hell. Its disliked by some for being "poppy", but this just adds to the "fun and cheesiness factor". It sounds like Blind Guardian partying with some gothic metal band. :)

Like some people mentioned before you could also add some "humppa" metal like Korpiklaani.
Its even cheesier and funnier than any power metal or hard rock.

You are in luck, TC! White Wizzard's High Speed GTO EP is just the thing you are looking for. It is fun, catchy, and upbeat in every song. It reminds me of a combination of hard rock and early traditional metal. Warryor is also of the same vein and I enjoyed their one album quite a bit.

Brocas Helm's most recent album is good cheesy, rocking fun.

Leatherwolf is also something that may interest you. It is more traditional metal than anything else but it is enjoyable and happy.

Manowar's Battle Hymns fits this whole thing pretty much perfectly. It's basically the only record of this sort that i listen too, but damn, it does the job so well.

I would've said Manowar's "Sign of the Hammer", I mean c'mon the first song is called All Men Play on 10, it doesn't get much cheesier (or kick-ass) than that.

Try Helloween Maybe.

Also Warlock maybe be what you're looking for.
