I am looking for death/black metal bands that use clean vocals in addition to growling, as I really enjoy the vocal contrast used by such bands. I would prefer the clean vocals to be operatic if possible, though that is not a requirement. The vocals can be male or female, though I'd prefer male vocals. The clean vocals can be anywhere from 50/50 with growls (eg: Scar Symmetry) to mere secondary vocals, such as those used in Dimmu Borgir.

I will also take recommendations from the gothic, doom and even folk genres if they fit the above requirements, though I am very familiar with gothic metal and longer doom songs (over 7 minutes) don't hold my attention very well.

And just for the hell of it, some examples of what I'm after:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAcMgTkw4OE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFkkSDIkA4Y
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32wL3cGuoMQ

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to aid me.

The only album to come to mind is Hell Is Empty by Anaal Nathrakh. Lots of vocal contrast between the screeching, grunting, and clean vocals. The cleans appear at every song minus Castigation and Betrayal, and usually more than once; in fact, roughly half of them appear in the choruses. I wouldn't call it a 50/50, maybe more like 25/75, but it might be worth looking into.

I'm sure there are other obvious ones I'm missing, but I can't think of them off the top of my head :x

Edit: Haha, 1 minute too slow. Imagine that.

I'm going to third Anaal Nathrakh. Very great band there.

I'll add Pre Mortem - False Gleam into the mix, too. The music is death metal, but it can sometimes be on the fence of death/doom, too. Vocals do have some cleans in there, which gives False Gleam a different edge, and some extra variety. To be truthful, I was taken aback by it at first in a bad way, but quickly got used to it.

You should also try Akercocke. I've not heard hardly any of their material, as I'm not a huge fan, but they have some clean vocals in their death metal, too.

Martyr from Canada utilise cleans, in particular on their latest album Feeding The Abscess. Most of the album is clean shouting, for lack of a better term. They play technical death metal.

Scarve may be up your alley, too. I only have their latest two, Irradiant and The Undercurrent, so I can't comment on their other material. The Undercurrent contain more clean vocals, and in more songs, but Irradiant is better overall. They play melodic death metal, but with a smaller melodic influence than such bands like Insomnium.

You said you wouldn't mind some from the doom or folk genres? Okay, for doom, try Swallow The Sun. They're more of a death/doom band, rather than a straight-up doom metal band, but they contrast their music with growled and clean vocals. I like all of their releases, but their latest full-length Hope is the best of the three, and is the most melodic. I haven't heard Plague Of Butterflies, but I'll assume it's more of the same (in a good way).

For folk, I suggest Moonsorrow, specifically Kivenkantaja. I don't know if it's what you're after, but it's got loads of clean vocals (in Norwegian, I believe?) and growls. Their later two albums are more blackened folk, and contain more growls. Verisakeet is my personal favourite, so try that one. Also try the band Myrkgrav. Their album, whose name is impossible to remember by heart, has some cleans mixed in with the growls. I will be picking that album up at some point myself.

Hope I helped.

Tearstained play a very interesting type of black metal that might appeal to you, but you probably have to be a fan of King Diamond/Mercyful Fate to enjoy them.

Although, I've on listened to Of Wind and Weeping, Mirrorthrone is another band you might like.

Phlebotomized is an excellent Avant-Garde Death Metal band, whose album Skycontact might be favorable to you.

My favorite of theirs would be Words That Go Unspoken..., but it's been a long time since I've really sat down and listened to any of their stuff. They're essentially a black metal Opeth with infinitely more balls. So if you aren't familiar with Opeth (although I assume everybody is), then the style may be somewhat jarring, but I enjoy Akercocke enough. They might not quite be what you're looking for, but extreme metal almost always carries harsh vocals, so what you're asking for is difficult, but interesting. I'd like to hear some of the suggestions, as I've been curious about this myself.

You may like to try Into Eternity.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm-RGms9Kn0

They use like 4 vocal techniques in one song just try them.

And if you like Industrial (and that's only if you like Industrial if not just stay away from this.) then try the band Black Comedy.

If you do not know of Ensiferum you may like to look into them.

Ulver's Bergtatt album is black folk metal, thera are clean male vox and blackish, he sings in a nearly operatic way if that's enough. It's like 50/50 between those vocals.

There are many folk metal bands that have clean vocals, like Ásmegin, but most of them are not operatic.

Fuck yea, that's one hell of an album.

Also a few songs off God Dethroned's latest album Passiondale have some clean vox, although the majority is death growls. However, they add quite a bit of atmosphere to the songs, and aren't sung in a conventional way.

If you like Scar Symmetry, you'd probably like Soilwork (Stabbing the Drama and earlier, don't bother with newer.)

As much as I despise Into Eternity, I must admit they have quite a talented vocalist (minus his gay punk/emo voice) on that one album.

Nevermore are also really heavy, however use almost exclusively clean vocals (although definately operatic).

So, where exactly are industrial elements supposed to appear in the song?

Thanks for all the recs, there are lot of great bands there. Ive still got to check some bands out, but I really like what Ive heard from Ensiferum, Swallow the Sun, Anaal Nathrakh, Abercocke, Myrkgrav, Mirrorthrone, Into Eternity, Asmegin and God Dethroned. Martyr, Nevermore, Scarve, Moonsorrow and Black Comedy were alright, but not brilliant. Still gotta check the others.

Thanks everyone for all the help so far.

Agalloch is an obvious one, doom metal with some extreme metal influences. Here's one of my favorite songs:

Disillusion is another notable band worth checking out. I've only heard of their debut, but they seem to implement clean vocals quite professionally.

Well, for a bit of a wild ride, I'd recommend Unexpect's In A Flesh Aquarium. operatic female vocals with all kinds of growls and screams. The music moves in flowing chaos, structured, yet unbridled. Not for everybody, and tends to elicit polar results, either brilliant or pure rubbish depending on the listener. Still, extreme metal and falls well under the clean operatic vocals.

For Symphonic Death with some operatic vocals, it doesn't get much better than Haggard. Brilliant stuff, I personally loved the whole Eppur Si Muove album. I'd definitely recommend checking it out if you have not already.

Arcturus' first album Aspera Hiems Symfonia is awesome. It features Ulver's Garm on vocals, performing both clean vocals and black metal shrieks. You might also like The Project Hate MCMXCIX.

Fuck me can't believe this slipped my mind. Definately check out Amorphis, more specifically Eclipse (and to an extent Silent Waters, although Silent Waters has more clean vox). Check out the songs "The Smoke", "Leaves Scar" and "Under a Soil and Black Stone".

^ Leaves Scar, probably my favourite from this album. Excuse the jewtube quality, it sounds about ten billion times better on cd.

Council of the Fallen features the requirements. Prog/death with hints of black. Sounds fairly similar to Akercocke, not half as good though.

Not sure if this is exactly what you're after but but you could try some of the earlier stuff by Opeth eg 'Blackwater Park' has a mixture of death metal growling and clean vocals.

Sad Legend.

Melancholy Korean melodic black metal with lots of weird clean, falsetto-ish vocals.

Here's a good example:
