I'm looking for black metal with very strong, dark, sometimes sad-sounding (but not full out DSBM), melodic guitar lines that are used very frequently. It's ok if they break away once in a while to do something else, but the band should have mostly the aforementioned guitar sound.

I'm not looking for straight melodic black metal like Dissection or Old Man'd Child, I'm looking for direct black metal, something like Burzum, Sargeist, Satanic Warmaster or Kvist.

Some examples of what I'm trying to find

Black Satanic Deviotion by Sargeist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyjeLjFaJrI

Distant Blazing Eye by Satanic Warmaster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6dff_7h ... re=related

To Build an Empire of 1000 Years by Aryan Blood http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JierX8geZY

Ea, Lord Of The Depths by Burzum http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ar624HUZOs

Forward by Arysk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWTxxOZ_q-k&fmt=18

Thanxx for any reccomendations! =D

The album Wolfskin Clad by Harvist is rather darkly melodic, but is definitely not melodic black metal. It's what popped to mind, not sure if that's what you're looking for.

Vinterland might fit the bill.

Check out Astrofaes, has several Nokturnal Mortum members and is very dark and melodic. They have some truly excellent stuff.

Well if you like Sargeist, then obviously you'd like Horna. I like Horna more.

Irrwisch, while a bit more atmospheric and "moody" than some of the stuff mentioned, very melodic riffs.

"Seven tears are flowing to the river" by Nargaroth might fit the bill, although I kind of feel disgusting recommending this band to anyone.

"Resurrection of the Gods of War" by Uncreation's Dawn has a great riff that really carries the song.

"...And Shadows Descend" by Vrolok, as well as some other stuff on his earlier albums might be what you're looking for.

Check out The Abyss, Peter TÃĪgtgren's old black metal band. Songs like "Damned" "The Hymn" "Cursed" and "Tjanare Af Besten" might be what you're looking for. Great band, surprised they're not talked about more.

"Holocaust Reborn" by Acid Enema, from the split with Xasthur is probably something you'd like.

"Satanarchist" by Anaal Nathrakh, both the older and new version are awesome songs.

I think Celestia would work especially songs like "Death of the Lizard Queen (Necro Phaanthasma)" In fact i'm certian they'd work.

Best I can think that come close to the Burzum melodies would prob be Wigrid, especially their first album "Hoffnungston", total ealry Burzum worship, also check out Forgotten Woods and Sterbend.

"In Su La Vetta" from the album "Non Dvcor, Dvco" by Spite Extreme Wing is one of greatest black metal songs written in this style. Raw epic black metal, unique in approach, and one of the some of most incredible riffs i've ever heard.

I doubt some people would agree with this, but Furze. They have riffs that reminisce of "travelling".

For the Lust of Darkness is a good example.

If I were you I would try the first two Gorgoroth albums, pure black metal with excellent songwriting and a great sense for melody.
Otherwise Graveland certainly fits the bill with his early stuff. I would personally advise "Thousand Swords" as a starting point, as this has many different intertwining melodic riffs as well as still being pure black metal.

Though you stated clearly that you are not looking for straight forward DSBM, I can't help but suggest Abyssic Hate's "Suicidal Emotions" album. That whole cd should fit the particular guitar sound you're looking for.

The last Prevalent Resistance album (Eternal Return) is full of half-melodic riffs. Not with leads, but the actual riffs themselves.
