Baroness is awesome, I enjoyed The Red Album a lot. What else should I listen to? What are some of the big influential bands of the genre? I didn't like Isis - Oceanic, and Jesu - s/t is a bit slow but great.

I also like post metal/experimental/sludge with clean vocals.

Burst from Swedens newest album Lazarus Bird is REALLY good and is in the vein of proggy sludge bands like Baroness and Mastodon.

Gonna have to go with Deicide. That name is made of pure awesome, but the album has like 3 good albums and the rest is crap.

Check out Thou from Louisiana and Kylesa.

Thou are awesome sludge which bases a lot of Eyehategod, but is a lot darker and has some great post-rock sections.

Kylesa have two drummers, and two vocalists (one being female). Sludgey, but borrows a lot from hardcore and post-rock. Their latest is great.

I'm not a huge Pelican fan, I find them to get incredibly boring and meandering, but check out The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The.... as that was the only album that sparked any interest with me.

A Storm of Light might also tickle your fancy. Seen 'em live and have their split with Nadja. Some really great stuff, the song "Brother" is a real winner. They're a bit slower and more atmospheric, but it can't hurt to check out, haven't had a chance to hear their LP.

Get Rosetta's Wake/Lift. This site doesn't think them metal anymore but check em out anyway, probably my favourite post metal album I've heard.

No way, that album was boring as shit. Australiasia and the debut EP are both way, way better.

I don't like this genre, but I do like two bands that could possibly fit into it: Burst and Swarm of the Lotus. Might want to check the latter out.

Yeah, but Crack the Skye isn't really what people say it is. I haven't even been able to listen to it long enough to write a negative review. If you're going to listen to Mastodon, try their more energetic older albums. Leviathan is pretty good, especially "Blood and Thunder," but the band isn't exactly worth getting all excited about.
