Not sure if there is a topic for this already, but I'm looking for more old doom metal from the 70's and 80's. Along the lines of old Black Sabbath, Candlemass, The Obsessed, Pentagram, Saint Vitus, Trouble, and Witchfinder General. Something with decent but not perfect production. Not interested in death-doom, black-doom, drone, or funeral doom. Not Pagan Altar. I don't prefer very high pitched vocals. Something with simplistic riffing. Nothing technical. Anything that is similar to Master Of Reality, Epicus Doomicus Metalicus, Born Too Late, Relentless, Day Of Reckoning, Death Penalty, etc. Perhaps with a slower, dark NWOBHM sound. Anything is appreciated.

Check out Bedemon. Extremely evil stuff that was recorded in the mid 70's. Features a few Pentagram members, but it's heavier than Pentagram was at the time.

Check this thread:

Plenty of tradition doom recommendations in there. If there's not already enough listed in all of the pages of that thread, I'm sure you could just post the same question there and get some good responses.

You have to check out the band Sleep. They've got some really slow solid riffs, and I think the best album for you is called Sleep's Holy Mountain. They have disbanded now, but they began in the 90's in California and are usually classified as stoner doom. Highly recommended! :)

Wow great recommendation there Willow! It fits his requirements. Not that he should be asking for recs in this forum anyhow, nevermind the issue of asking for recs about doom.

Try Iron Man, a trad doom band that's been around a while. Their most recent album is something I've been listening to lately. Earthride for a more "rock" kind of doom with a Lemmy-ish singer, Solstice (UK) for some more depressing doom.

If you haven't already, check out Reverend Bizarre they're not old but they play doom in the same style of those bands you mentioned.

Check out Paul Chain. He started releasing solo albums in 84, his style is heavily influenced by Black Sabbath and NWOBHM. I second Iron Man, I saw them twice this year and hung out with them, very good traditional doom metal with great riffs and a great tone. The singer on the second and third albums sounds similar to Dio. Also seconding Bedemon. Also check out Revelation, they have some great riffs and song structures.

To the people who recomended Solstic and Gates of Slumber, they don't fit the OPs requirements thought they are worth checking out. Don't get me wrong I love both bands but niether are from the 70s or 80s

I don't want to be a dick, but this belongs in the recommendation forum.
