I am looking for other 'metal opera' super-groups similar to Aina, Ayreon, Avantasia etc Preferably Power Metal and Prog metal but I won't mind influences from other genres (eg. Ayreon's electronica influences)

Many Thanks.

Xystus - Equilibrio. I'll put it bluntly; this shits all over anything Tobias tried to accomplish in Avantasia. Definitely the proper way to orchestrate and carry out a metal opera.

Aquaria - Luxaeterna. This isn't exactly a metal opera, but it's prog / power metal with a lot of live orchestra. I don't think it actually tells a story throughout the album, but the music is too good to not check out regardless.

I believe you'll enjoy Epidemia's Legend For All Times, it's quite similar to Avantasia, very catchy orchestral power metal.

Try Kamelot's Ghost Opera and The Black Halo (to a lesser extent), both worth a listen.

More like Epica and The Black Halo, they are a duo of conceptual albums with some guest singing and musicianship. Not to Avantasia-level, but it's still very elaborate, so the OP should like it. It's also better than Avantasia, so that helps.

I actually think he's looking for power/prog albums with lots of guest musicians, like Avantasia and Ayreon, as oppose to just power/prog albums with similar music to those bands.

Not exactly a "supergroup" but Angra's Temple of Shadows features Kai Hansen, Hansi Kursch, and Sabine from Edenbridge. Not to mention the already godly Kiko and Eduardo from Angra, it makes for a fucking brilliant album. A little prog thrown in for Angra's unique approach on power metal, fucking excellent.

Also, definitely check out Epidemia if you enjoy Avantasia; they're essentially Russia's metal scene and their answer to Tobi.

Savage Circus might be up your alley if you enjoy Blind Guardian, it features Thomen Stauch as his side project (though not anymore) with Jens Carlson from Persuader on vocals and Emil Norsberg from Persuader as well. Also power metal riffmaster extraordinaire Piet Sielck from Iron Savior is there, so it's guaranteed badass and awesome.

Will definitely check that out, I love anything with Hansi Kursch and Kai Hansen is an amazing vocalist!

Beto Vasquez Infinity - Metal Opera From Argentina, there are some famous Features like Tarja Turunen and Jorg Michael (Stratovarius)

SoulSpell - Opera Metal with Metal Musicians from Brazil, like Tribuzy, Nando Fernandes (Hangar), Bruno Maia (Tuatha de Danann), Tito Falaschi (Symbols - Edu's Brother!)

Indeed, these projects are too soft, imo.

There is Tribuzy's Execution, not a opera, but an heavy and powerful album with extreme famous guests, like Bruce Dickinson, Michael Kiske, Ralf Scheepers, Roland Grapow, Kiko Loureiro...

For the Prog side, you might check out Nevermore's This Godless Endeavor, a bit of prog, thrash, and slight bit power as well, with a operatic male vocalist. I'm sure you've heard of them, but this CD is really quite brilliant and somewhat fits into your specifications.

How is that in any way what the OP was asking for?
