Anyone know of any good super lo-fi DEATH metal albums that work, sort of Nattens Madrigal-ish but death metal? Fast/technical, brutal, and/or blackened stuff, or just classic DM would be ideal.

Try Symbols of Decrepitude, Symbols of Supremacy by Fermento or Looking For An Answer's self titled album. Both bands are straight from the Spanish death metal underground.

Carnivorous Vagina's 'Instinto Omicida' is an excellent album with a very odd production job. You'll either hate it due to the production or love it because it's an amazing album, and find that the production enhances the atmosphere tenfold.

Disgorge (Mex) - Forensick
Super raw production on this one. brutal death/grind classic, one of my favourites.

Enmity - Illuminations of Vile Engorgement
This one is...well...just check it out, I'll let you decide. Probably not comparable to Nattens as it's not catchy in the slightest.

Check out the demos of classic bands. Lots of lo-fi stuff to be found.

Thanks for the rec's, will check all of 'em out.

But, can anyone think of anything besides brutal/grind stuff? Nothing wrong with that kind of stuff, but it seems that's pretty much the bulk of what's been mentioned. Anyone know anything else, maybe some tech stuff or some blackened DM with "good" lo-fi production?

The bands I suggested aren't brutal dm at all. Necrovore would be right up your alley, actually.

You might also want to check out Mortuary's Blackened Images. Awesome Mexican death/thrash with total demo production.

Wasn't the Abominations album by Morbid Angel really lo-fi?

Abscess (US) has quite a lo-fi production and personally, they wouldn't be "brutal" death metal. Few members of Autopsy in them too, give them a go.

I'm sort of unsure if you this is the kind of stuff you're looking for, but

Embrionic Death
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69ZQJibT ... re=channel

Leishmashias
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14_q9ClD ... re=related

Pretty bad quality and sound, but brutal and heavy nontheless.

Vril´s 'Once Again Thule' is a good recommendation in terms of black metal influenced death metal, the production truly lo-fi and the last song even has some dark ambient/drone influences.

Have you heard of Imprecation?

Demo compilation entitled "Theurgia Goetia Summa" is amazing black/death metal with lo-fi production. Don't overlook this!

Carnivorous Vagina is so badly produced, it's funny.

I would recommend Beheaded(Malta)-Souldead. Low-fi as hell, yet very good Suffo worship with audible bass. Not to mention cheesy orchestral intros.

Maybe try Morbid from Sweden, Dead's(of Mayhem fame) old band. Is vocals are awesome here, a lot better than anyhting he did with mayhem.

You should also check out Severed Survival and Mental Funeral by Autopsy themselves. Awesome stuff; it's sludgy and filthy death metal, just the way it should be.

If you're in the mood for something unusual, you should look into Timeghoul's demos. The band is an influence to weird-ass acts such as Cosmic Atrophy and the closest thing I can think of to compare them to is Demilich. It's not really something you can immediately "get," and so if you decide to check them out you should be prepared to devote a little bit of time to listening to them.

Another recommendation I can give you is Incantation's debut, Onward to Golgotha. One of the dirtiest-sounding death metal albums I've had the pleasure of hearing. The album's incredibly raw, but that fails to detract from its sheer awesomeness.
