I find in the world of folk metal there is the melodic death/black with folk influence variant (a la Ensiferum), the happy forest typ (Finntroll, Korpiklaani) and lastly the black metal kind.

But then there is Skyclad, arguably the originators of folk metal which to me stands out as unique. Is there any more bands like them? Preferably with similar lyrics.

im interested aswell. I personally found no folk metal that sounds like skyclad.

You could try that other band of the former skyclad vocalist.

Sabbat? That's the only one I know about.

There is also The Clan Destined, but they only put a demo out before splitting. I haven't been able to find any bands similar to Skyclad either.

Cruachan sound a bit like Skyclad sometimes. That's all I can think of.

Clan Destined is amazing but not really folky.

Agreed, fantastic release, this was the new band Martin Walkier put together when he left Skyclad, similar but different if you know what I mean. Sabbat was Martins band before forming Skyclad, far more pagan thrash than Skyclad and alot more agressive, but fantastic lyrics all the same, check out their "Dreamweaver" album, best metal lyrics/word-play ever imo and a great concept story to boot based on Brian Bate's novel "The Way Of The Wyrd", it was away ahead of its time.

Skyclad is one of those bands that are just really original and can't really be copied well.

Similar lyrics to Skyclad? I don't think it exists, except maybe in Celtic punk or something like that. Skyclad is more left-wing than most folk metal bands.
