I read the creative breakdowns thread but i didn't find the kind of breakdowns i'm looking for.
The breakdown or part has to be drums focused, not double pedal centered, unusual time signature is better, creates a "trance inducing" atmosphere.
Exemples are:

metallica

drottnar

destroyer 666

sepultura (short but good)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyfJ-Qwe ... ted#t=1m41

I know it's not a breakdown but atmosphere!

neurosis

The only one that qualifies is the first breakdown here, the others give a good idea of what i don't want:

Please no slam/-core breakdowns!
thanks

Ok so i did my research. The sound comes from tom-tom drumming. I'm not a drummer so i didn't know about that technical aspect.
Possibly 3/4 beats but i'm not sure.

Very un-musical but instructive:

So my request has evolved:
Do you know songs where toms are played as a main theme over a longer period of time?

There are some really nice breakdowns by this band Lazarus A.D. You should check them out, my favorite is "Thou Shall Not Fear", at the very end.

"Atrocity Exhibition" by Joy Division is basically a tom beat for most of the song, it's not metal though. You can try stuff by Tool, especially "Reflection" from their Lateralus album (obviously, not really metal either).

Off the top of my head, the song "Worship the Animal" by Nile (on their demo) has a main beat that uses toms for a bit.

Not metal, but every cramps song has only toms and it's probably something you'd enjoy alot.

Perhaps something like this? The drumming on this album is almost entirely tom drumming. As previously mentioned, Tool are good for this too.

Thanks i know tool, isis and there is plenty of that in neurosis. But the breakdown/bridge/part should contrast totally with the rest of the song or have a certain "primitiveness" not complex/polyrythmic drumming ala tool.

Check out Cobalt. They're labeled "black metal" but on their most recent two records (especially on Gin) there's a lot of Neurosis and Tool influence, including tom-heavy drumming. The rhythms are more straightforward than what you'll usually hear in Tool though but the tom-heavy drumming is often quite similar (the actual drums even sound like Tool on Gin, and that's no complaint from me). There is more straightforward double bass and even blasting from time to time but especially on Gin the tom-heavy "tribal" drumming is really prevalent.
