I realize the Recommendation Central is usally for finding new bands, but I'm really into Nadja lately, and their discography is pretty daunting. So far I own Radiance of Shadows, and When I See The Sun It Always Shines On TV. I was thinking of moving onto Desire in Uneasiness, Skin Turns to Glass, or the collaboration with Black Boned Angel. However, I've heard how their releases pretty much keep the same sound and formula (Even the BBA collaboration, which is odd, since I was expecting a drastic sound change, like Boris' Altar). Can any Nadja fans give me a hand?

Are you interested in the "different" works, or something? A lot of their albums do same the sound, but I love that sound, so it's all good by me! There are a few that deviate from the standard Nadja formula. One you mentioned even; 'Desire In Uneasiness'. It also happens to be one of my ultimate favourites. It has a great atmosphere, it's different, mellow, authentic drums, really relaxing. I also recommend the HUGE 'The Bungled & The Botched' if only for that first song. It's immense. Big sounds, wonderful acoustics and vocals - essential Nadja release. As well as that, the re-recorded version of 'Bliss Torn From Emptiness'. It's one of my favourite albums ... Ever. Very dreamlike.

I also recommend 'Corrasion'. As far as the early epics go, it's one of the best. It epitomises the early Nadja distorted wall-of-noise sound.

Nadja quickly grew on me in the past two years as a favorite of mine. I started with the Long Dark Twenties ep which i absolutely loved (which you get a taste of on the TV lp). Desire in Uneasiness is good, but a bit more mellow and laid back, you won't get the heavy and awesome riffs like Truth Becomes Death. As far as recommendations go, my favorite Nadja album would have to be Bliss Torn from Emptiness (rerecorded) the whole thing has such a sublime and dreamy atmosphere to it; i love it. Truth Becomes Death (rerecorded) is also excellent; Bug/Golem is a favorite of mine. The colab with BBA is great and should not be over looked. Check out Caspian's reviews as he is the resident Nadja pro on MA; and for the most part I agree with most of what he says about the band.

My Two Cents: Bliss Torn From Emptiness (rerecorded) and Truth Becomes Death (rerecorded) are their best works, huge walls of noise and etheral vocals with little effects adding some fluff here and there. Skin Turns To Glass was actually pretty bad if you ask me, and Desire in Uneasiness is good, but a bit too mellow and laid back.

Two simple rules:

1) Is it an EP/split/collab? Avoid it like the plague, unless if it's with Black Boned Angel.
2) Is it an album made on/before 2004? Avoid it.They're not bad but aren't a top priiority.

I'd recommend the remade Touched, Truth Becomes Death and Thaumogenesis. They're probably the best Nadja albums. I don't really rate Desire in Uneasiness or the remade Bliss... that much anymore tbh, there's maybe one good song.

I guess that's a good way to sum up Nadja's discography. Except for those three albums I just mentioned, pretty much every Nadja album has a few dogs on it. So download/buy those three I mentioned, and then follow those two rules.

Bungled and the Botched is pretty damn solid, too. Worth a look.

Alright, cheers, guys. Yeah, I made this thread, because even if nobody else replied, I knew I'd get a response from Caspian. But I'll check those out. My local HMV suddenly imported pretty much all of their major studio records, so I was thrown off on which ones were worth buying.

The split with A Storm of Light wasn't very bad. I wouldn't say worth buying, but the first aSoL track was great and Nadja's side was good.

:durr: i completely forgot that one, yes it's a real gem.

it was sort of ok. "avoid like the plague" was hyperbolic, I guess.. But none of those splits and what not are really necessary unless you're a huge fan/nadja completist.

I've yet to hear anything from 2009 besides the cover album and Clinging To The Edge Of The Sky, any of it worth while?
