My tautology sensors just went off.

Maybe he's just talking about some proto-death/thrash?

Bands/releases that immediately come to mind when I hear Repugnant:
Tribulation (Swe) - The Horror
Tormented (Swe) - Rotten Death
Depravity (Fin) - Silence of the Centuries
Crypt of Kerberos - The Macrodex of War

Sinister sounding oldschool death/thrash one and all.

EDIT: Maybe also try Crypticus' two releases.

Two of my favorite death metal hordes that keep things graveyard-oriented but still manage to infuse some thrashier neck-snapping sections:

First of all there are the Peruvian gods of death metal, Mortem. This is one of my favorite bands of all time to recommend because it literally makes no difference where you start in their discography, it's all great. You can start with the debut, the newest, or anywhere in between and I'm fairly confident you are going to love what you hear. They draw a lot of comparisons with Morbid Angel (actually both bands I'll be recommending do, hmm) especially in regards to Nebiros' wild leads. The riffs are absolutely devastating.

In addition to Mortem I think you would get a kick out of Shub Niggurath. These guys are very into the Lovecraftian stuff, as you could probably discern from their moniker. The music switches up pretty frequently from awesome mid-paced stomps to energetic thrash sections. This is probably my favorite Mexican dm act, and as with Mortem it doesn't really matter which album you start with, they are both very high quality. These guys have a bit more lo-fi sound, but if you're looking for morbid death metal that shouldn't stop you.
