So I'm looking for Punk bands who use Metal styled riffs such as Amebix, Anti-Cimax, Battle of Disarm, Icons of Filth, Hellbastard, and most of the Uk82 scene. I enjoy Summon the Vulture and Iskra quite a bit too, but I'm looking for more 'old-school' type bands.

Check out Doom, Nausea- cool, older styled stuff, or Aus Rotten (new-school). You've probably heard of these guys though....Antisect are great though too :)

the band Alehammer has members from Prophecy of Doom(!), if you like Hellbastard or Axegrinder, you will like these guys a lot.

all you really need are the true shitlickers

you might also like that monastery (NL) stuff, perhaps more on the death metal side of things.

edit: I assume you do know skitsystem right?

PoD is great, their more Grind however and not what I'm looking for. And I've been meaning to check out Axegrinder. What album is to start with?

Yes, I know of all of them and they're all pretty good. Have a Nausea patch as well that I got from a friend who owned a distro in town.

I will also check out Monastery. And Shitlickers.

If you haven't already check out mid-period English Dogs 'Forward Into Battle' LP, 'Where Legend Began' LP and the 'Metalmorphosis' 12". The earlier stuff is more typical Brit punk and less interesting.

man, steer clear of aus-rotten. they are just hands down not good, and that's coming from an ex-crusty like myself. I'd start with your basics, see my post in the crusty thrash thread, then move on to your stuff like dystopia or rudimentary peni or filth, those are pretty quintessential bands. pay attention to record labels like grade a thrape or six weeks or profane existence or slap a ham, that should help you find what you're looking for.

Although not technical crust, Crass and Flux of Pink Indians are always recommended.

Yeah, Dystopia is fucking great. Rudimentary Peni is all right, but I never really got into them. Perhaps I'll listen to it again. I know most of the essentials, I'm looking for older, or more obscure bands.

Yes, of course I know Crass. Flux of Pink Indians are pretty good as well.

Disrupt
Extreme Noise Terror
Mass Grave
Dropdead
Disgust
Decrepit
Detestation
Pisschrist
Unarm
Campus Stermini
Kontatto
(Early) World Burns to Death
Dirty Power Game

All of these are just superb bands and great to start out with.

You might want to check out this older band from Arizona, The Feederz. I don't know if i'd really call them crusty but they sure as fuck are subversive.

Lets see...

After The Massacre - Crust punk with some Death metal influences
Aghast - Crust punk with really horrible production, but lots of energy
Ekkaia - Crust punk/D-beat that can be melodic at times
Filthpact - straight forward crust
Framtid - Japanese Crust, definitely among my favorites
Hangover Overdose - Crust with a metal edge
Hiatus - Old-school crust punk with some cool riffs
His Hero Is Gone - Crust/Sludge

Rudimentary Peni's good, check out Siege, although tthey're almost headed toward grindcore, it's pretty metallic punk. Check out the Electro Hippies' "The Only Good Punk" too, that's classic crust with Jeff Walker singing. A good newer band is Witch Hunt, they've got melody which might be a turnoff. But they play very well!

Seconded, "Blood Red States" is amazing a huge step up from their debut.

Any japanese crust would be a good starting point, as one band invariably leads to another they've done a split/comp with, and then sheer volition can't stop you from unearthing gem upon gem.

Personally, I'd say the best I ever found would be Societic Death Slaughter, usually abbreviated as SDS, so you know it has to be good like all such bands. They did a split with Misery, who for some reason still hasn't quite become legendary among American crust. Those guys are far thrashier than SDS, but they do sport some of the most hands-down pissed off singing I've heard this side of Scum (this side always being the first). Two parts Antisect, one part Discharge, can't go wrong.

Not even close to being anarchocrust. Nevertheless, Siege is above all boundaries and is the best band to come out of 80s punk.
