I have recently discovered this excellent sub genre of metal, and i would appreciate some help broadening my list of artists.
What i mean by Folk/Pagan is metal that uses folk melody and/or folk instruments. For example i particularily like the flute melodies in Kroda songs.
My Faveorite Bands i have been listening to of this sort are Kroda, Nokturnal Mourtem, and Woodtemple, so anything similar would be appreciated. I am also not adverse to stuff that is a bit different.
I don't mind low quality production as long as i can acutally hear the instruments.
I don't care if they are NSBM or not, i can appreciate good music regardless of weather i agree with the subject matter. Besides, many of these bands sing in languages i can't understand anyway.
Growled and/or clean vocals are fine with me.

Thanks

I think you should try the fantastic belrussian band PIAREVARACIEN. They have a very distinct and - at least to me - somewhat unique sound of folk/black/pagan (and a flute, too)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z26nye41Wjo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJRc90ywQms

edit: Also SMAGA are very fine.
They have a more harsh and blackish sound but highly recommended: http://metal-archives.com/band.php?id=117580
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43Mwa-BiryE

oh, and SLAVLAND are very much worth checking out. great slavonic pagan/black with occascional folk parts:

Check out Heol Telwen. Amazing, beautiful folk with black metal influences and vocals.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s05Ti7VHbsY

Then my favorite band from this genre, Eluveitie. They're pretty big so you've probably heard of them, but if not here you go.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DYKsQqQgSk

Then the almighty Wolfchant.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvU-iuN9OOQ

As well as Suidakra.

Temnozor, obviously. Good folky black metal. Agalloch too perhaps?

For pagan black metal, check out Graveland. Everything they released since 'Immortal Pride'. You should check out 'Odal' as well, especially their second album: '...Wilde Kraft'. One of my favorite pagan black metal albums is also 'Nordisches Blut - Our Banners will Rise'. And 'Iuvenes - Riddle of Steel' is awesome too.

Try some Darkestrah and Wodensthrone. Also early Primordial. Personally I like newer Primordial more but the band has moved away from their more black metal oriented sound to a large degree.

How about Myrkgrav? They utilise some clean vocals, which doesn't quite go with the OP's description, but their first album is great.

Varg (from Freiberg, Germany)
Fferyllt
Heidevolk (The song Het Wilde Heer)
Kromlek

Try Ases - Of Moonlords and Sunwheel Warriors
I don't remember if they use folk instruments, but the music is very pagan-sounding without losing its metal roots. I was never big on folk stuff but this album was on of the few I used to like and would recommend.

Thanks for all the great reccomendations! I didn't expect to see so many results, i still haven't got around to checking them all out yet but i already have heard lots of wicked bands.

@grauer_mausling
PIAREVARACIEN was good but i loved Smaga and Slavland, those two bands are exactly the kind of stuff i was looking for when i posted this topic.

@DemonX99
Awesome, esppecially the bapipes in the suidakra song. And yes, i have heard Eluveite.

@Winterkald
Also awesome. I have heard some graveland before but i haven't quite got the chance to explore them to much depth yet.

@BrianCi666
I have heard fintroll, and they do kick ass

I listen to agollach a bit, they are a great band.

As for the rest, i'll go through more soon and tell you what i think

Seconded. Aiumeen Basoa are very good. Ilbeltz and Adhur are also two notably good Basque Pagan bands.

You'd also greatly enjoy Kamaedzitca, Poccolus, Ha Lela, Obtest, Sorgsvart and probably Panopticon.

Edit: Typo. I always forget the second "l" in Ilbeltz's name.

hmm, will Ulver's "Bergtatt" be sth you might like (in case you are still visiting the forum/this thread). No flutes but accoustic guitars and an overall great folk-black feel... But, ok, they are not really similar to Nokturnal M. and the like. Anyway - try it here:
