yeah =/ i knew i should of said "not Satyricon." I guess to be safe.

No fleshpress, furze, goatsblood, satyricon, darkthrone.

I love those, but not what I'm looking for. think Khold!

I honestly admit I know nothing about the black/noise thing at all. The only thing about that I know is Gnaw Their Tongues.

Black Vomit(Uk). I absolutely love Jungle Death.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPUWIkbOoyc

One track won't be enough, so be sure to check out multiple tracks.

The Austrasian Goat

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EilqmWqc ... re=related

again their catalog is varied as well.

Striborg

Sorhin's sophomore, most notably.

Black Vomit was sick, only noisy in parts but really fucked up sounding with strange sections and influences. Will look into them more.
The Austrasian Goat, while top notch black funeral doom and a million times better than audio shite like Nortt, didn't have any noise elements. Maybe their other songs do.
Always hated Striborg.
I knew and enjoyed S.V.E.S.T. but never heard that song, it's a beast.

I used to hate Striborg, but came around to it and find some stuff i like. other times it reeks of someone not knowing how to play their instruments.

Happy to hear you like Black Vomit. They really grew on me, shame they're so elusive. There's a album on a label's bandcamp, which i remember liking, but finding different then Jungle Death.

Sure you know Akitsa, but it's worth mentioning just in case you haven't.

Any of Mark McCoy's projects might interest you, Arts, Ancestors, Hallow, Haxan, etc they're all kinda the same.

As you might guess from my name, I'm quite a fan of Drautran's demo "Unter dem Banner der Nordwinde".

Got anything similar worth recommending in mind?

Great choice! Though i'm not a big fan of their album, the demo is awesome.

Should be obvious, but make sure you have Emperor's In the Nightside Eclipse and Immortal's Pure Holocaust and Battles in the North.

And then:
Sacramentum- Far Away From the Sun
Setherial- Nord
Abigor- Nachthymnen- From the Twilight Kingdom and Orkblut- The Retaliation
Dornenreich- Nicht um zu Sterben

Can anyone recommend me some acidic, sinister and bleak (but necessarily raw) black-metal? A band which fits what I'm looking for nicely is Tasmania's Thrall;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7p3Q7m_Oqvw

Which, incidentally, I recommend - I did a search for instances the band being mentioned in the forum, and almost all of them were by me.

I have a bit of money left on my iTunes account to purchase one album. I'm in the mood for melodic mid-paced black metal with charismatic vocals (something more than just hidden behind the music). Oh yeah... it needs to be available on iTunes ;)

I don't have a huge collection of black metal, honestly I've been out of the loop the past few years.

Some bands/records I really like:

Peste Noire
Enslaved 'Mardraum'
Hyadningar 'Weak Creation'
Emperor
Craft (I really like when the guitars lock in and get hypnotic)

Hmm. judging by your Craft comment, how about Horna? Sanojesi Äärelle or Envaatnags Eflos Solf Esgantaavne

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytGEPGnl ... sults_main

Ceremonial Castings if you like Emperor's first two albums a lot

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Xl786W9 ... re=related

Deathspell Omega's Drought or the LP before it if you're digging some more progressive thinking.

No offense, but I cannot see the similarity between Drautran and Emperor/Sacramentum/Dornenreich. Abigor is rather close to what I'm seeking, didn't know about them, thanks.
(As you mention Setherial, I cannot resist to mention the related project Blot Mine.)

To throw in more stuff similar to what I'm seeking:
I guess Nagelfar & The Ruins of Beverast et al. are somwhat close, too.

I am looking for black metal that is similar and in the same vein as the album Om by Negura Bunget. Anyone know of any bands, or more preferably, specific albums that are similar?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Ceremonial Castings is the closest to what I'm in the mood for. I'm a fan of both Horna and DSO, but I think I threw off the aim of my request by mentioning Craft. I'm interested in something majestic. Peste Noire has those moments in spades. Catchy guitar but still really heavy.

Here is something along those lines:

I'm looking for something akin to Deathspell Omega's two first albums. Pretty raw, riffy, mostly mid to fast paced with lots of epic tremolo riffs.

So, not familiar with DSO's first couple albums, Malthus?

Early DSO is fairly typical for IN YOUR FACE French BM of the early 2000's variety. Hell Militia, Malicious Secrets, Vermeth and even Gestapo 666 all fit the bill. There's plenty of others too, though I'd say HM and MS are a good place to start.

Yes I am familiar with Dead Shell Universe because everyone ever recommends them when DsO is mentioned, but it's not what I was looking for.
Anyways Dave, all those bands were pretty good, Hell Militia in particular, but they all had super straightforward tremolo power chords riffs, none of them had the kind of old Gorgorothy epic melodies that early Dso did.

When someone requests something specific in a help thread, you're expected to recommend something that meets the given specifications.

Bekhira's "L'elu du mal" and Leraje's "Congeries in viam lemniskate", perhaps? I mention both pretty frequently so you may know them. They are both a bit less straightforward than "Infernal Battles". It's hard to think of things as sounding specifically like Gorgoroth, as, since we all know from drone's famous review, Gorgoroth is the first generic black metal band. :P

Much closer!
Both were very good, Leraje in particular having a satisfying riffing style.

Also check out Förgjord, Calvarium, Isvind, Warloghe (especially the sophomore album, but both full-lengths should satisfy you), Nightside, Perisynti, Musta Surma, Uncreation's Dawn (Lightning Hammer Falls first). For some genuinely nasty stuff (less of that triumphant feeling of earlier DSO), Bloodhammer. Also perhaps Goatmoon - they never clicked with me, but you might enjoy them.

The obvious ones: Clandestine Blaze, Satanic Warmaster, Horna. For some really epic melodies, start with these three, Baptism and Prevalent Resistance.

I should check out Leraje, I've put it off since they're French. I also wasn't completely amazed by Bekhira when I checked it out, but it was probably better than Seigneur Voland.

Leraje are German. :P

Most of those are pretty good recs, but I don't like to give more than one or two things at a time. Loading folks down with tons of recs usually results in them feeling like they need to blast through all of them without giving them all the proper time and love and attention they need to be truly understood and appeciated. Plus it starts getting more and more tangential. I thought of things like Spitehowling and Vitsaus (or even Moonblood and middle period Mutiilation) but at that point it's getting pretty far (relatively speaking) from the original request considering how many black metal bands there are in the world and how similar a lot of them are apt to sound to exactly what folks ask for.

That said, Warloghe is a great rec.

Yeah it will take me a while to sift through all those reccs. I know all the obvious ones you mentioned (will you ever stop whoring out Horna? :p) Metantoine suggested Nattfog, who were pleasant, lots of triumphant riffs, but relatively inoffensive. Mutiilation gargle balls. As do all of the LLN projects in my book.

Sorrows is described as atmospheric black metal. Their EP Threads reminds me of Ash Borer, it's only 14 minutes but is quite passionate and powerful sounding, cool artwork to - very "Shining-esque" (movie)

Personally, I like to get a long list of bands to try out, if possible. Not everyone has the time to check out fifteen bands, but since it's not outright common for any band to be so exactly similar to another one that merely one would suffice, it's generally better when there are several recommendations, each of them highlighting certain aspects of the request. I also think that requests must be interpreted in a way. In this case it was more difficult, since early DSO was mentioned as the primary example, but Necroticism174 also requested "epic melodies", whereas the focus in DSO's first two isn't entirely on that.

Everyone should listen to more Horna.

Hirilorn, the pre-DSO band is literally all about epic melodies, so if you haven't checked it out, you might want to. It's not at all similar to Infernal Battles or Inquisitors of Satan though.

I'm looking for something akin to Deathspell Omega's two first albums. Pretty raw, riffy, mostly mid to fast paced with lots of epic tremolo riffs.

Of course the Finish bands-Horna, Sargiest, Behexen (the horna/behexen split is amazing), Prevalent Resistance, etc.

Tenebrae In Perpetuum's Antico Misticismo is great

Dodsferd - Fucking your Creation

Hordes of the Lunar Eclipse penned absolutely one of my favorite songs (the one I've linked) but their only full length left me a tiny bit unfulfilled, but give it a shot.

So I fear Deiphago ruined me for black metal, I saw rec's for black/noise up there and I'll probably check those out, but guys like Gnaw Their Tongues and Black Crow King are a more huge ethereal feel for me, and I'm looking for brutal faceripping destruction, Bestial Warlust is ok but still a little tame feeling, Conqueror fares well and both Anaal Nathrakh and The Axis of Perdition debut's are great but their later works fall flat in this particular arena.
In short, ultra raw and aggressive bm that border's on noise or noisecore, shorter song lengths would also be appreciated.

http://rateyourmusic.com/lists/list_vie ... &start=110 A lot of the bands on this list are very noisy and raw. Not all of them are super good, but the first few pages or so have some interesting ones.

I'm looking for black metal/dark ambient/industrial combos, stuff similar to Blut Aus Nord (particularly The Work Which Transforms God and MoRT), The Axis of Perdition, Gnaw Their Tongues (as well as Mories' other projects), Nahvalr, Spektr, Nihill, and Utarm. Any suggestions?
