Hello all. I'm looking for atmospheric black metal with good production values; music that is raw, but beautiful like Wolves in the Throne Room or Altar of Plagues. Both bands have a tight, cohesive sound, but they still manage to create great black metal. This is a pretty general request, and I'd be happy with mostly anything; even stuff like Agrypnie's newest album, 16[485] are along the lines of what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

Try Deafheaven's latest album, Roads to Judah. It's similar to WITTR: http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=3540315870

For the person asking about symphonic/neo classical in the previous thread, there is Obtained Enslavement. Witchcraft and Soulblight are amazing albums. Watch out for their final release as it is a dud!

Their discography is ranked and explained in a jokingly manner here:

so yeah, skip Hounds of Hell

Could anyone recommend me BM band which is, lyrically, anti human and misanthropic? I know most of them are, but what I mean is in a to the point sense, like this one below by Craft:

"N.D.P.
Do you feel the foul stench in the air?
Like corpses left to rot in the sun.
Nearly dead parasites trying desperately to survive.

It smells like humans."

I already knew bands like Craft, Lugubre, Dodsferd, Massemord (Pol)...

Just know little about Striborg, because of a really bad quality sound, but never searching about the lyrics. I'll try that again. I knew the other two. Thanks.

Any other?

Go with the studio albums. I'd say roughly chronological order depending on availability. There are like a billion other live and split releases too, but every single full-length album is killer and progresses in some way from the last.

My personal favorites would be Evoke, The Dwelling, and Karisma. These would give you a pretty good idea of the different styles they've done over the years too. Envenom and Fetishism aren't far behind. The new one, Sabbatrinity, is a bit more back to basics, but also kicks ass.

Hello all, I'm looking for black metal that starkly contrasts the one-speed architecture alot of bands tend to take. Namely, long song length, dynamic structure tempo shifts (ritualistic slow, doomlike rhythms into blast-beat tremolo insanity, the other way around, or a mix of anything of that nature) and also packed with layers of sound creating an overwhelming atmosphere at times. (edit: it doesn't technically need many layers of sound as the example I provide below doesn't, but it's a plus. I just want an atmosphere emphasized.)

The best example that encompasses the most of what I'm looking for is Necrite's latest offering.

I'm not too picky about sound production, but I want neither try-hard muddled raw nor sterile plastic modern sound.

In fact, if it makes it easier as I tend to saturate my reccomendation posts needlessly, anything that's like Necrite's latest album is perfectly fine too, lol.

Thanks in advanced.

^ Check out this other flenser records band Palace of Worms, awesome stuff.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjfhHX1uM4U
I think this is the most similar thing I can think of, really awesome band even if they're not exactly what your look for, especially if you like necrite.

Oranssi Pazuzu perhaps?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmZ8GkprvEk
This shit drips atmosphere, not similar to necrite at all but they do some pretty cool stuff with tempo and the overall feelings of the music on they're last album.

I'm looking for black metal that heavy use of strings, horns, etc. Classical music elements in general. Also, if it exists, I'd like black metal that is influenced by serialism.

If you looking for some "Autumn Aurora" worship, I strongly reccommend you try AX's "Glare of Autumn", very similar to this release in every way.

For depressive Black Metal check out these bands

Benighted in Sodom
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hddw3q4k640

Nyktalgia
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyU1mzRYUvw

Nocturnal Depression
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G98xrhq-Jno

Benighted in Sodom is my favorite out of the bunch, he has a huge discography despite being a very new band, its incredibly morbid and depressing shit. I love it.

Can someone hit me up with some good Atmospheric BM, with absolutely NO ties to NSBM please? And I see a bunch mentioned in the post above this so I'll look into those (I am aware of Drudkh out of those, but also aware of the sketchy ties they have)

Looking for some surprising bands similar to Beherit's Engram album.
Repetetive, indecipherable, hypnotic (on the slower tracks), yet still with that "EEEEVILLLL!" vibe.

Paysage d'Hiver

This project is completely devoid of ideological pretenses and absolutely encapsulates the atmosphere of "winter" unlike any other, and that's saying a lot in the world of black metal. Every release from Paysage d'Hiver is an experience of the coldest music imaginable and it's atmospheric in every sense of the word while articulating the most magical sounding phrases and musical passages. Darkspace is on everyone's radar, but it's Paysage d'Hiver that's clearly better in every way. Start from the beginning and move forward, I promise it'll be worth it!

OK im looking for neoclassical sounding black metal. Not symphonic, just bands that use dark classical sounding guitar riffs, these songs by Gorgoroth are perfect examples for what im looking for.

These albums are far from mediocre! lol Ok the closest release in my opinion to Coldworld would have to be Walknut's "Graveforsts...", especilly the guitar sound and riffs. Take a good listen to the album grom start to finish and you will see what I mean, a great release all the same.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4ZPuIRmR9E

As for Filosofem worship I have a few releases lying about like this. Check out Vietah, especially the debut, solid release -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hfror1Up ... re=related

Zuriaake from China are another overlooked gem, check out the similarities in this track especially when the keyboards kick in -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2RUleN1uRk

Fornost are another gem, check out the track Bustum (Burzum??) for more worship -

http://www.myspace.com/fornosthorde

Forest Silence are a band I always have a soft spot for, especially the debut -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpGs4IFcI6k

...and if you like them check out fellow countrymen Sear Bliss, who also share band members, these bands are more well known so you may already know them -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aLmkRZVU_E

I hope these suit your tastes, I have many more but these always spring to mind.

Can someone hit me up with some good Atmospheric BM, with absolutely NO ties to NSBM please? And I see a bunch mentioned in the post above this so I'll look into those (I am aware of Drudkh out of those, but also aware of the sketchy ties they have)

The Axis of Perdition is some amazing dark ambient, with obvious black metal in it, and very atmospheric.

Well, I want to get into the Japanese Sabbat, but don't know where to start. What can you recommend?

Since we're in a black metal thread, I'd recommend their early albums, because after a certain point, they kind lost that particular black metal feel - but not for something less awesome. So there'd be Envenom, Evoke, Disembody, Fetishism and maybe The Dwelling. They're pretty much as good, so you might want to get them in chronological for the sake of it and some perspective.

More people need to listen to this band. Their entire discography is amazing.
