Hi everyone. I was wondering if you have any sad ballads to recommend. I just want to hear more of this, since there are so much feelings, and so nice melodies that I get shivers down my spine.

So feel free to post any sad metal ballad that you like. My favourite sad ballad of all time must be Megadeth - The Hardest Part Of Letting Go... Sealed With A Kiss. (Even though it gets heavy after a while)

Currently listening to Manowar - Courage. Very good ballad!

Couldn't have this gone in the Saddest Metal Songs thread? Anyway, "The Hammer has Fallen" by Sabaton, is pretty sad in that weird pump you up bring you down way. Sabaton is my guilty pleasure.

Thanks for the ones so far. I will check them out right now.

The thing is, that thread was filled with sad metal songs, not neccesarily ballads. I came across some depressive black metal bands, and that is not what I'm looking for. That is the reason I decided to make this thread. Here, I am looking for sad "ballads", not just sad metal songs in general.

Another song that comes to mind is This Promise I swear by Highland Glory. Also, be sure to check out Iced Earth-Watching over me.

And Alestorm - To the End of Our Days if you don't mind cheesy.

I'd have To say "Losing More Than You've Ever Had" by Accept and "Screaming In The Night" by Krokus. And I'm not sure if its really a ballad but Dio's "Don't Talk to Strangers" seems pretty emotional to me.

Saddest songs:
1. Beth - KISS

2.Reaching Happiness, Touching Pain - Cathedral....................
Reaching Happiness, Touching Pain
Dark oceans we cry, writhing in the misery,
Cast spit upon the love that lay at our feet,
The intrigue of pain we crave it's mystery
Neglect to explore the depths to sanctity.

We reach happiness, divine in providence,
Our lamented desires, lose scent of the essence.

Shunned is the prosperity, we feel the anxiety,
Self inserting the knives in our heart.

Luring to degrade with bribes of affection,
Can't abide divinity over our imperfection.
All love is broken, somber in devotion,
The hearse of selfishness has drove it all away.

Shunned is the prosperity, we feel the anxiety,
Self inserting the knives in our heart.

I'll add three of my favorite thrash ballads:

Toxik - There Stood the Fence
Metallica - Fade to Black
Flotsam & Jetsam - Escape from Within

rant/Powerquest? Please shoot me in the face right now with a 12g shotgun for an infinite loop of eternity. This song is soooooooooooooooooo bad. It's going through the motions church music with just 'a little bit of edge' to it. Suburban, day-dreaming mom's are listening to this crap on 6-cd changers as they drive from one shopping centre to another. It's uninspired and BAD music which is absolutely the worst kind of music.

My prayer is to God: Please kill this song from the internet, forever.

Even Jesus would think this song was totally uncool. It's pure fucking karaoke garbage and it only wants me make to kill the people that made it. I don't even care what the lyrics are saying because my rage is utterly engulfing me. I can't believe anybody would post a link to a song that was such a complete waste of time, energy & matter. That's the only sad thing about this song./rant

I wouldn't say that it's sad, but Blood Brothers from Maiden can be pretty emotional at times.

Addicted to Chaos, by Megadeth of course. But maybe I mention this one because it makes me remember some shitty time in my life, and like always, metal was there

W.A.S.P. know how to make a sad ballad: Forever Free, Keep Holding On, Hallowed Ground, Trail of Tears, Heaven's Hung in Black, etc.

I think the saddest ballads almost inevitably deal with two general subjects: unrequited love and death. I'd be interested in hearing a sad ballad not about either topic if anyone has some recommendations.

1916, just, 1916. The most poignant, sincere war ballad I've ever heard. Perfect tear-jerker ending to Lemmy's greatest album.

I'm just going to second this because it's completely true.

Yes, but a funeral would fall under "death."

Come to think of it, "Trail of Tears" by both W.A.S.P. and Testament (different ballads, same name and subject) would qualify, being about nostalgia and homesickness more so than death (although, there was death involved in the tragedy.)

I guess romantic more than sad, I just went for the feel of the song. If you went to my next Motley Crue song the tone of the song was sad.

I don't know why people like Megadeth ballads - 'A Tout Le Monde' is a trite, schmaltzy piece of crap. I guess I generally have nothing but distain for post-Rust in Peace Megadeth, and the ballads in particular come off as massively insincere. I've not heard the new ones, but I'll assume they're just as cheesy. I guess the only exception would be 'In My Darkest Hour'.

Anyway, here's a great ballad from one of few bands who can actually pull them off convincingly 'Child of Desolation'

Thanks a lot to all of you guys! You really do know what you're talking about! This is such a wonderful forum! :) By the way, if any of you want to hear another sad ballad then I would recommend Good Bye Jenny by Andi Deris.

Overkill-Soulitude

The chorus to that song, especially after Nice Day... For a Funeral, is just heart breaking.

Corrosion of Conformity-7 Days

The verses to this song are impeccable, that "Mistakes were few but I believe they're mine."

Skyclad-The One Piece Puzzle
Skyclad-Another Fine Mess

Another Fine Mess, though on the heavier side at times, is maybe my favorite ballad of all time.

Nevermore was really good at this. Check out

The Heart Collector, and Believe in Nothing, both of which are on Dead Heart in a Dead World. BiN may not really be a ballad though. Then there's Dreaming Neon Black's title-track, and Sentient 6 from This Godless Endeavor which is probably my favorite. Just really, really great songs.
