has anyone spotted any aoty lists focused more on the rawer side of hardcore? metal aoty lists are generally not worth my time because i know everything on em already but in terms of underground hardcore they tend to be more interesting.

Reminds me of a weird mix of midwestern, Japanese, and British hardcore. Pretty sick

Please help me sorting this out

long time ago I listened to an album which obviously I dont remember the title nor the artist

I just remember that listening to it I thought it sounded something like “epic hardcore” in a way similar to Envy, also I think it was a japanese band but not 100% sure

I've been recently revisiting the whole MORNE discography. The band has just put online their first demo.

It's an excellent atmo, crushing post-doom affair with crust overtones. Imo very recommendable as one of the best examples of the style.

Mine (from Switzerland) probably deserves more attention than they get, with their "Tetanus" LP.

https://www.discogs.com/Enough-Darkside/...e/19683619

https://trujacafala.bandcamp.com/album/darkside-lp

Polish deathy, grindy crust - reissue includes the Darkside tape 1996 + split EP w/ Juggling Jugulars 1997

As far as I'm concerned, this is every bit as great as some of the crust classics. Think Hiatus and Master and Swedish death metal. It's too bad CDs aren't in vogue, because it could have included another demo (1998 and not listed on Discogs) and their split 10" w/ Nula. I've wanted someone to reissue their tapes for a very, very long time now. Previously only found in really crap quality and/or on youtube. Buy the LP.

Finally got around to listening to my copy of the LP re-press of Muga's There is Nothing Eternal Exist. Such an amazing slab of melodic crust.

Unfortunately the only rip of the full album on youtube is pretty poor quality.

Their self titled is even better in my opinion. The alternating male and female vocals are great. Really dig her voice as well, one of the best in crust for me.

Don't know if you know this one below. Not quite hardcore, more crusty with female vocals:

Unkind, the Finnish band, has always flown under the radar, which is odd because they did two albums on Relapse. They started as crusty HC on the mighty Fight Records, but then downshifted into Tragedy worship on their first full length on Yellow Dog Records. Then they did something interesting and powerful on the Hangen Syliin album, which remains their best IMO. At that point, they were doing Swedish HC ala Skitsystem and Disfear better than either, but they were adding some smart ideas on top of it. The album that followed is also worth hearing, Yhteiskunnan Pikkuvikoja. The two albums on Relapse make me think they were listening to too much newer Neurosis while going back to Tragedy.

A couple others that took the torch from the Swedish HC sounds of the latter 90s (and did it better than those bands in the 2000s). Interesting that they're also comeback bands.

Riistetyt (Finland). They've never done a bad record, and Orjat Ja Kurjat (2003) is a fierce example. Good drumming and drum sound. The guitars are really fast, sort of like AJ Novello (but not). Havoc was on top of it with collecting a bunch of those releases on CD. I'm somewhat surprised that a bigger label, like Relapse, didn't try to license those releases from the mighty Fight Records.

Avskum - Uppror Underifrån (2008). This is probably their best record from the comeback era.

unrelated to that...when Kaaos (Finland) came back (twice?), they didn't let up a bit. Their Ismit record is such catchy thrash. They deserve a comprehensive box set.

Found a really obscure hardcore band on Spotify. They have awesome stuff, but only a few listeners. Give them some love!

Btw, if anyone here hasn't tried Left Behind already, you gotta. They're an essential band imo.

Alright, I listened to that Worn album. It didn't blow my mind or anything, but they seem like a pretty sick band. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone looking for straight up no-bullshit hardcore.

Got another little-known hardcore band for you guys. Pretty strong stuff, though I'd say they dip quite a lot into metalcore. Here's their bandcamp: https://dogecmc.bandcamp.com/music

I've been listening to a lot of punk lately and came across a cover done by Goldfinger (99 Red Balloons) where there's this section where the guy sings in German, and that made me realize how cool punk sounds in that language, so if you have any good recs for German punk (in the vain of Bad Religion, Pennywise) let me know them!

I asked a German friend of mine, he says he doesn't know any classic punk bands, just hardcore ones like Fallbrawl and Nasty.

Anyone know some hardcore, especially beatdown hardcore, that uses death metal influenced tremolo picking?

Knocked loose has some of what I'm looking for, in Trapped In The Grasp Of A Memory at 1:52, and In The Walls at 0:53.

There's also some in Dog No Longer by Jesus Piece, at 0:25.
