I love singers who (1) have a strong high register, (2) have a strong middle register and (3) can sing well both clean and with distortion. My favourite singers include:

* Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian)
* Jørn Lande (many things)
* Johnny Gioeli (Axel Rudi Pell)
* Eric Adams (Manowar)
* Matthew Barlow (Iced Earth)
* Russell Allen (Symphony X)
* David DeFeis (Virgin Steele)

Most of the aforementioned gents are now in their 50s and past their prime. Some, like Kürsch and Lande, are still going strong, while others - notably DeFeis - are tragic shadows of their former glory.

What are some great power metal and heavy metal singers in the same general vein who are in their prime now (or at least were in this decade)?

The best example I can name is Nils Molin from Dynazty and Amaranthe. He sounds a lot like a young Russell Allen to my ears.

Thanks in advance!
... the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin, monotonous whine of accursed flutes; to which detestable pounding and piping dance... the blind, voiceless, tenebrous, mindless Other Gods whose soul and messenger is the crawling chaos Nyarlathotep.

It's maybe too far from your preferred genre, being heavy/doom, but Spirit Adrift's vocalist, Nate Garrett, is amazing.

Jens Carlsson (Persuader)
Sebastian Levermann (Orden Ogan)
Joe Liszt (Ancient Empire)
Do the words Heavy Metal mean anything to you other than buttcore, technical progressive assgrind or the like?

I think Tony Kakko of Sonata Arctica has sounded amazing on their recent work, mileage may vary on the music/writing though.

urban breed had a high point for his career with Trail of Murder and Project Arcadia, though I would avoid the recent Serious Black album.

Nicholas Leptos of Arrayan Path is straight up killing it these days.

Thaurorod's last album Coast of Gold is a burner, and the singer Andi Kravljača has a lot of charisma.

Iuri Sanson sounds as good as he did on Hibria's debut, and with smarter music behind him, on the recent Eternity's End album.

Even Ronny Hemlin is pretty damn good on the new Tad Morose.
