Hi!

I'm not a musician, so you'll forgive me for not being very technical with the musical terminology...

I'm looking for thrash with riffs that "shift" in pitch quite often (a few low notes, some high notes, etc... something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVOddjHfp7Q starting at 0:55) with a lot of varying note lengths inside the riff itself (not a regular annoying buzzsaw... listen to the riffs here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6F26TDb4lo starting at 0:40).

Artillery's Khomaniac would fit rather well this description...

Long story short... It should be technical (NOT progressive) and possibly melodic... death/thrash is also fine.

Thank you!

Can't access the YouTube vids right now, but Vektor and Revocation both fulfill 'melodic' and 'technical'.

One thing I discovered recently was the album Deception Ignored from Deathrow. While they may be more known for their first two I am inclined to agree with AUtothrall now that this is a technical thrash masterpiece, though the production could be a little different I suppose. THe songs are long and have a dizzying array of riffs and tempos. You may very well like it.

Seconded. And if you like this, you should like Destruction's Eternal Devastation as well (if you haven't already heard of it).

More bands that fit your request: Anacrusis, Aspid (not very melodic but very technical), Believer, Coroner, Krakkbrain (quite rare IIRC; better off downloading), and Vio-Lence I suppose.

Anacrusis' Screams and Whispers is just awesome. Not sure why they never seemed to get as much attention as other tech-thrash bands like Toxik and Realm. They are fairly melodic as well. Seconding that Deathrow album as well.

I will also add Blind Illusion - The Sane Asylum. The music is not your typical thrash, and is quite melodic and technical.

Thirding that Deathrow album, it's grown on me a LOT lately.

I think it's pretty comparable to Toxik's second album in style, although Toxik has a (technically) superior vocalist by far.

And Anacrusis is just damn amazing, just recently discovered them and I'm obsessed already. All four albums seem damn good. You can download everything off their site:
http://www.anacrusis.us/

I think Vendetta's first two are pretty killer too:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o3mgbdYYbU

Final Prophecy's demo is damn amazing as well, a bit on the more melodic/speed side but it's fairly technical and impressive I'd say with loads of tempo/rhythm changes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGxhkF4iB2Y
(youtube shit quality takes its toll a bit on these)

Maybe a long shot, but late 80's Satan might kind of fit too:

Znowhite - Act of God, a bit technical and good thrash with some good melodic moments

Coup De Grace(U.S) - Their one and only album is filled with good melodic moments that border on technical at times

Heathen - Technical melodic thrash greatness!

Realm - Endless War

Toxik - World Circus

Deathrow - Deception Ignored

Target - Mission Executed
