Can anyone recommend me some good songs or bands? I feel a little bit sad after my dog died. Yeah....:/ I mean, songs that have keyboard melodies, etc. The only songs that I can think of was "A Question of Heaven," from Iced Earth, "Prophetician," from Eternal Tears of Sorrow, and maybe a couple of Kamelot songs, like "Karma." <<That keyboard always gets me.

Pantera's "Cemetery Gates". Nobody cares if you love them or hate them. This song is still an amazing motherfucker.

Sonata Arctica - Replica

These guys are usually so chipper, it's odd to hear them do a sorrowful ballad.

Second this and Slumber, the majority of Insomnium's work in particular is heavily based around a melancholic atmosphere, especially Across The Dark and One For Sorrow.

Give Be'lakor a go as well, hold high similarity to Insomnium, same melancholic melodies and atmosphere.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTUMo2h0ysk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y87bVC8t ... re=related

Swallow the Sun, bit of an obligatory mention, very sad riffs, atmosphere, and melodies. Much doomier than the first two I mentioned.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlaGCc519iM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sbURPlF ... re=related

Daylight Dies, once again, holds high similarity to the other 3. Sad riffs and melodies, sorrowful lyrics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daolrM6qXFE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2n1BPua ... re=related

Now this one song in particular I have always found to have a very enveloping melancholic feel to it, Nickerson's Theme by Ahab. It is funeral doom and isn't exactly a "sad" song. But it is very atmospherically emotional. Give it a go.

You need some Katatonia, My Dying Bride and mid era Anathema (specially the albums Eternity, Alternative 4 and Judgement)

Sad songs you say? I've got this.

The Angelic Process - Million Year Summer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNu9JuURXL8

ColdWorld - Red Snow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rd1U2O2cQIs

(Not metal, but...) Asylum Party - The Wind Will Blow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWKp_9jLZ_Y

Maybe not necessarily sad, but I think LantlĂ´s' "Agape" is a pretty emotionally draining record
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW0uSYilm8A
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEtU6QeNy_k

Sun Devoured Earth's entire discography:
http://sundevouredearth.bandcamp.com/

And of course, what list of sad music would be complete without Type O Negative, especially their album "World Coming Down"?

Try "Under Your Tree." Actually about the lead singer's dog dying, and it's a great song, so...

Katatonia - Gateways of Bereavement (pretty much the whole ''Dance of December Souls'' album sounds sad)
Virgin Steele - Child of Desolation

Both sound very sad. Enjoy!

Traditional ballads always were more "sad" for me than say dsbm, gothic and other genres where sad atmosphere exists for the most of the time. I don't know how to explain that, mostly because they usually emphasise on sadness because of something bad happening, rather the melancholy, depression, often insanity which the other ones are usually focused on.

Drudkh: Ukrainian Insurgent Army
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0n5bwdoPzY
So so sad and beautiful...

Gorement: My Ending Quest
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id7BMU4Nb2w
Melancholic-sounding death metal track.

Gehenna: Touched and Left for Dead
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adq3BHvYKoI
Very dark and emotional...keyboards make a great atmosphere.

You need Drudkh - Solitude. If really down, skip to about two minutes.

This song is about the former drummer in the band (The Old Dead Tree) committing suicide:

Weird band, but I never forgot that one song.

Oh, Hypocrisy Sleeping away, so touching... is like the mellowest Pink Floyd gone heavy (at least in sound)

Well, Virgin Black for sure (they play symphonic gothic metal).

and Shining (black metal- they have a lot of anger in their sound too)

Check out the song Cold Void by Nyktalgia (again, black metal)

Sorry to hear about your dog. If you like melodic death metal, maybe Godgory? I like Way Beyond and Resurrection.
