Bohren & Der Club of Gore is an incredible band, and each album astounds me. Unfortunately, no other band that I know of comes close to having a similar sound. With doomy passages and ambient jazz instrumentation, they capture a dark atmosphere that is just the cat's pajamas.

Any similar bands? The Last.fm recs are good, but not quite what I am looking for.

You need to listen to The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, this is what you're looking for.

Free Nelson Mandoomjazz is a band that was brought to my attention recently. Feels relevant for this thread.

Well the one album I've got (can't remember the title right now) sounds almost exactly like a David Lynch film score by Angelo Badalamenti. Only not as good.

[quote="splyu"]
they're better, give their full discography a listen they master almost dark ambient qualities that Badalamenti didn't for Twin Peaks

and I recommend Dale Cooper Quartet & The Dictaphones, only band truly similar. the Darkjazz/Doomjazz ensembles are good, but they lack the ambient soundscape quality of Bohren. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8RWdYkmQXA

ORTHODOX has produced one superb mix of dark jazz, slow folk-ish guitar lines and haunted vocals on their second album, their third album gets back to Doom but still has it's jazzy moments. The first one is more drone doom but still quite baroque. Very interesting band on the whole.

More obviously, there's also a band simply named DOOMJAZZ: http://www.myspace.com/doomjazz

Wow. This is awesome. Really, the only band similar enough to the mighty Gory Club. I thought the prescence of vocals would take away from the music, but they actually add something good to the soundscape. Thanks a lot, dude!

Painkiller - Execution Ground (1994)

the ambient/doom/jazz album by the great trio (John Zorn, Bill Laswell, Mick Harris - former Napalm Death drummer), after the grindcore/jazz stuff like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAs_n2H_o6w

Holy fucking shit. This thread is insane. Opened my eyes to a whole new music genre I had no idea existed. Most of these bands mentioned here are awesome. Thanks to everyone who recommended!

Listen also to Black Film and Haxan Cloak. You can't go wrong with those two.

I must say that this thread is as epic as it can be.

I like a lot Doom Metal, and I was searching for something with saxophones... Carpathian Forest had a lot of songs like this, and they were great.

Thanks to you guys I've found exactly what I was looking for, and better. The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation - Admirals Game is one of the best songs I ever heard in my entire life.

If you guys discover any other Doomjazz bands, please, share it with us.

Pan-Thy-Monium maybe? Their debut had lots of DeathDoom, jazzy atmosphere and saxophone included. Their later stuff is even more weird.

Another weird ensemble with even partly jazzy arrangements might be Carbonized. Not the "For The Security" debut CD (this is Swedish Death Grind) but their 2nd and 3rd CD should suite you too.

I sure hope endless puns based on "doomjazz" isn't the future of the genre.

That's the domain of ska.

You can look for Ihsahn's third album, After. I wouldn't call it Doom but there's plenty of juxtaposition of a wildly chaotic sax amidst a bunch of dissonant chords and odd-time 8-string chugging.
