Hello.
I hope this is the right thread for the request ..

I very much enjoy the combination of dark ambient music and acoustic guitars (or, alternatively, dark ambient and ~clean electric guitars) in one track, but most of the neofolk projects that I know of tend to separate electronic and acoustic music.
Nature-inspired neofolk music fits, but most of all I would like to find songs/albums with pure electronic/industrial sound.
Maybe someone knows dark ambient projects that use acoustic/clean guitars in their albums..
Examples:
Desiderii Marginis - That Which Is Tragic and Timeless (the tracks Worlds Apart, Still Life, The Weight of the World, The Love You Find in Hell)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gO3sMqnjYoo
Peter Bjärgö - The Architecture of Melancholy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xe3t6bztC_Y
Also, I like when the members of an atmospheric doom metal band Void of Silence use dark ambient music as a background to acoustic parts of the albums:
CXVIII
White Light Horizon

Been a while since anybody posted in here, kind of a shame...

So, I've really gotten into this Dutch band called Gold. Their guitarist was originally in The Devil's Blood, and you can definitely detect it in Gold's first album (which is a pretty straightforward psych rock direction), but their two most recent works are a very cold, modern sounding post-punk/deathrock hybrid with some post-rocky textures. The vocals are very solemn lower range female singing that kind of adds to the whole deathrocky vibe that I'm getting from them.

Anyhow, I'm curious if anybody can think of anything that sounds like these guys. I've seen them compared to The Devil's Blood quite a bit, but I find Gold to be a lot rawer and less occult. I'd like to find some other modern post-punk bands that have this kind of cold vibe with it and really good, sinister vocals.

Here are a couple of songs I think are similar for what I'm looking for:

Hello.
I'm looking for "multi-layered" dark/ritual ambient with drums/percussion.
Some vocals/samples are a plus (preferably without distortion and throat singing).
Examples:
Inade - The World Behind the World
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWZzS224PxI
Lamia Vox - Lapis Occultus
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vm7MT73ZBM
Phelios - Passing The Solar Firestorms
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0fRD4k0YEs
Damballah - Demanbwe

Hey, late answer, but here some names you might enjoy.
Maybe you already know these ones since they are on the same label (Kranky) :

Belong : they have 2 great albums
Loscil : ambient electronic from Vancouver, many albums, all good enough
Jefre-Cantu Ledesma, maybe his Love is a Stream abum ?

Otherwise, try M Geddes Gengras or Brett Naucke.

Been getting into darkwave a lot lately. Have never really delved into electronic music because it's just so broad and varied, and I'm pretty picky about it...but as a fanatic fan of black metal, I really like dark music in general, and darkwave has really resonated with me as of late. It's almost synth-poppy but obviously way darker. I found this project from the UK called Linea Aspera which is absolutely fucking amazing. They were only around from 2011-2013 but from what I can tell, their music is top notch. Any weirdos got any similar recommendations to stuff like this? Thanks!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1JplpqHkPw

Also this project called Hante has been another darkwave favorite of mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jhQsEsAoKI

Hey Maniac Matis; I didn't know Linea Aspera, but this kind of female-fronted depressed Darkwave makes me think of some projects that might be to your taste:
Cold Zebra: https://youtu.be/MIUI49bmUkA
Volkova: https://youtu.be/RH7g8L_enwA
Switchblade Symphony: https://youtu.be/A3dEWeu7aII
Rïcïnn: https://youtu.be/rC1WeBxxvuw

Hello.
I'm looking for some electronic music similar to these tracks:
ASC - Ceres (https://youtu.be/OhocZrw5x3g)
ASC - Arc (https://youtu.be/QA2WDgQyszs)
Something with layers of atmospheric ambience (+ maybe with some kind of soft noise), with a pronounced sad/melancholic (but not too dark/gloomy) mood, and with some interesting mid tempo and/or fast tempo electronic (techno?..) rhythms.
The long track duration (more than 10 minutes) and some dynamics/variety of music are a plus.

I know almost nothing about this kind of rhythmic electronic music and "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" by Aphex Twin is the only ambient techno - related album that I've listened to, -- so any recommendations are welcome.

I don't know shit about this genre, but I recently fell in love with Apparat, there're vocals and it's more organic than what you're looking for maybe. I found it on the Denovali store. Denovali is a German label specialized in Dark non-metal music, like Jazz, electro, drone, ambient. I recommend it.

Stuff like Ben Lukas Boysen or The Cinematic Orchestra might get your attention too.

browse their catalogue by styles here:

Morphine1873, thanks for the recommendations!
Apparat's music is very atmospheric and interesting, and what the nice and sad/soothing vocals on some albums! Love at first listening. ♥
Ben Lukas Boysen and The Cinematic Orchestra also are very atmospheric and beautiful projects.

I think the main problem with those two tracks from the examples is that ASC's discography was started with some drum and bass style, but then the author and musician of this project decided to create some kind of techno-style music.., but somehow those techno-rhythms turned out to be some sort of experimental/drum and bass - related, and therefore the genre is not that accurate/important for this request. I apologize for such a vague description.
The main idea of the request is that there should be some quite intense rhythmic component, and there should be some atmospheric ambient/noise component that softens and smooths this rhythmic intensity and makes the overall sound of a track smoother and calmer/less aggressive.
The interest to this kind of electronic music was inspired by this request, -- I just wanted to find some kind of very atmospheric and quite intense/dynamic (but not so dark and disturbing) electronic music that has a similar effect on me. I was listening to random playlists with different atmospheric electronic music and noticed that, for some strange reason, those two tracks by ASC work perfectly for me. Unfortunately, there are very few similar tracks in his discography, so now I'm trying to find other atmospheric+techno - related projects.
Thanks for sharing that label's link. I'll check it out. :)

Edit: I've found another example. This track is not so long and atmospheric, but it has a similar sad mood, some interesting rhythms, and hypnotic/soothing effect:
Infans - Vacil (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01M6wHOb9KY)

Hello. :)

I'm looking for something similar to the song "Decades" by Landing: https://landing.bandcamp.com/track/decades
Multi-layered instrumental tracks or songs with repetitive electric guitars and with soft psychedelic vibe+atmospheric electronic elements.
Some drums/beats are ok but they should not be too intense and loud in the mix.

Nice. Before the vocals kicked in, the music reminded me of several bands from the post-rock/math-rock scene of the late 90s/early 00s. Give these a listen. They may have too much in the way of dynamics for you though.

Unhome "A Short History Of Houses" (1999)
The only album from this UK post-rock/post-hardcore outfit, featuring members of Joeyfat.
https://unlabel.bandcamp.com/album/a-sh ... -of-houses

Reynolds "Field Recordings" (2000)
Another UK band. This ranges from sparse mellow stuff like you posted to more intense Shellac-like moments.
https://reynolds.bandcamp.com/album/field-recordings

Dianogah. US post/math-rock trio consisting of 2 bassists and a drummer. Again, quite varied in dynamic though.
"As Seen From Above" (1997)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3TYtL5 ... jEa3yv0MlG
"Battle Champions" (2000)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_wjAMSucKc

Maybe Appliance too? Possibly a bit more "rock", but a nice laid back mellow vibe in places. Not many YT samples out there though.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVxq778e1gM

And maybe The Mercury Program? Again, quite varied in dynamics, but lovely and hypnotic.

balbulus, thank you very much for the recommendations. :)
Yes, the post-rock genre definitely fits into the *not too overwhelming* level of multi-layerness that I'm looking for and all these repetitive guitars and drums can certainly create a soft hypnotic effect.

balbulus wrote:

I've picked "Decades" as a perfect example because it's my favorite type of repetitive song with psychedelic vibe: it has one stable repetitive guitar line and one repetitive drum rhythm while all the dynamics/variety are provided by additional guitars and ''atmospheric electronic elements'', but, generally, I don't mind some little amount of dynamics in main guitar line(s) and drum rhythm.

I'm already familiar with Dianogah and Unhome (thanks again for your recommendations in the Post metal/post rock help thread).
Yes, Dianogah's music is a bit too dynamic, energetic and intense for this request, but as for Unhome, - the songs "Crickets & Car Lots" and "A A" fit perfectly with what I'm looking for.

The songs "This Flat Land" and "Airplane" by Reynolds are also very good and the vocals work perfectly with this kind of music.

I like the vocals and atmospheric elements on the song "Pacifica" by Appliance, but yes, that rhythm is too danceable and energetic for me (and it reminds me of that strange song "Einst war es mal..." by Verdunkeln): it's fun to listen to, but it's not the kind of rhythm I'm looking for.

The album "A Data Learn the Language" by The Mercury Program is very beautiful, and I really like the sound of the music. The guitars are quite dynamic and some drums are a bit too intense for this request, but the rhythms are not danceable and the sound of the drums is not too loud in the mix, so I'll definitely give it a try. <3

I'm glad you found some of those interesting, and I'm glad my recommendations have been of use in the past!

Whilst driving to work this morning I remembered another band that might fit your needs: 90° South (or 90 Degrees South). It's been many years since I listened to them, so I can't be sure if they fit the bill exactly, but I remember they were a nice mix of gentle post-rock with ambient electronica. They had a few releases on Ochre Records: "The Barrier Silence", "A Distant Memory of Home" and "Plans For Travel". There doesn't seem to be any samples online, but when I get home tonight I'll investigate further.

The music sounds very beautiful and atmospheric, but I'm not a fan of this kind of voice sample.)

balbulus, thanks a lot for your time and for the help. I'll surely give it a listen.
I've read the description of the album "The Barrier Silence" on the label's page and I really like the concept.

It's just always a little disappointment for me when post-rock bands decided to use heavily distorted voice samples on their atmospheric and beautiful albums. I understand that it might be important for a concept of an album, but the sound of these samples is unpleasant for my ears and it also tends to ruin a calm/dreamy atmosphere.
As an another example: as much as I love the album "Sorni nai" by Kauan, I still think that this album would be better without any voice samples :)

Hi all, recently I've been enjoying shoegaze a lot, and since I'm kinda of unfamiliar with the genre here I am looking for recs. Usually when I'm starting to explore new genres I prefer to go from the less known bands and end with the classics. I've been listening to Ride - Nowhere and MBV - Loveless, so I'm looking for (good) tier 2, 3 and newer bands to work my way up to other classics. Bands that dont use much vocals would be highly appreciated.

Hey everyone, I've been getting into shoegaze recently and I'm wondering what albums I should go with next? Thus far, I've heard:
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Slowdive - Souvlaki
Panchinko - D<E<A<T<H<M<E<T<A<L
Ocean of Ghosts - Heathen

I want anything that's either essential, or anything that sounds funeral doom/drone-like because that's probably my closest frame of reference right now. Something that maybe sounds a little like Lifelover could also be really awesome. I have dabbled my toes into blackgaze but found it wasn't really my thing.

Cool band! That Bad Habits song was killer. Loved the main riff and how the rest of the song seems to bubble out from under it. I certainly would describe that music as cold! It's a lot more desolate and lonely sounding that most black metal I've come up against these past few weeks!

Finally found something similar, actually more than similar:

Ainsoph - Ω – V

They're also Dutch and have a female vocalist too, no idea if there's any connection between both bands. You could say that they play some black/post-punk with lots of prog and other influences. Seems like it's their debut, just amazing.

Hello.

Lately I've been listening to some albums (both metal and non-metal) with cold/dark winter atmosphere a lot, and I've realized that the vast majority of winter-inspired albums that I have/know of are either instrumental or only with male vocals, and I really wish there were a few winter-inspired albums/songs with clean female vocals, so I would be grateful if anyone could recommend songs that have a cold/dark sound and atmosphere, some winter-themed lyrics, and also have clean female vocals.

I don't mind female-fronted winter-inspired metal songs, but most of all I would like to find winter-inspired non-metal songs/albums with some clean female vocals and with music that sounds similar to tracks/albums that were mentioned in the non-metal part of this thread - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=99329

+ Songs that have this kind of cold-sounding keyboards/synths also fit perfectly into the request (preferably with a little more variety and dynamics in music): https://youtu.be/lgx06jTeLMs

...Or maybe there are some songs that are similar to this amazing song "Winter" by a neoclassical darkwave project Dargaard: https://youtu.be/th2gmBBGnoQ

This song also works (the rhythmic electronic beats are rather "urban-sounding", but the atmospheric components of the music are dark and quite cold-sounding, and the lyrics describe a "mysterious" atmosphere of a cold and snowy forest): https://youtu.be/7i1Tec6-x5k

So I think it can be any genre of non-metal music as long as music has a cold/dark sound and atmosphere, and a song has some clean female vocals + winter-related lyrics (preferably in English). :)

A bit more to the calm side, but there's Elow: https://elowtheprod.bandcamp.com/album/cold some tracks use vocoder, some uses vocaloid.

Also, does screamo count? Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas use a ridiculous mix of vocoder and autotune: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBf6eNV ... MusicJapan

Hello.

I'm looking for two kinds of sad atmospheric non-metal songs/albums with clean female vocals:

1. Songs that have a sad mood, female vocals, and atmospheric keyboards.

For example, maybe there are some slow and atmospheric songs that sound like a non-metal, 'keyboards only' version of this metal song by Shape of Despair - https://youtu.be/dgfpQ39um2A, or maybe there are some slow/mid tempo songs that have keyboards similar to the keyboards on this part of the song "The Prodigal Son" by The Slow Death - https://youtu.be/MJyNfuVtiKQ?t=441 (7:22-...)..,

-- i.e. without electric guitars, without any (!) drums/percussion/beats, and without any kinds of male vocals, - only with atmospheric keyboards (+songs with some other (additional) soft and atmospheric electronic/ambient elements or with additional acoustic musical instruments (string or wind) also fit into the request) and with female vocals.

2. Slow or slow/mid tempo songs that have a sad mood, female vocals, acoustic guitars, and some atmospheric keyboards/or some other kind of sad (and not too dark/unsettling) electronic ambience (+songs that have some additional acoustic musical instruments (string or wind) are also ok) and that don't have any drums/percussion/beats.
An example: https://youtu.be/r3IXAgaTbbs

Any help would be appreciated.

Songs totally devoid of percussions are rare, but if you can tolerate one of two drum hits, I think I can risk those recs:

to answer your number one question, I suggest:
ISON: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-tVoyKmMjA

And to your second request, I suggest this:

Помни Имя Свое : https://pomniimyasvoe.bandcamp.com/
Matthildur: https://solveigmatthildur.bandcamp.com/releases
Sarry: https://heartlessrobot.bandcamp.com/album/shiva

Morphine1873, thank you for the recommendations. :)

Yes, I know it from my listening experience, and this is why I drew attention to that particular part in the description of the request.
I have many non-metal songs and albums (with female and male vocals) with a sad mood where music has both atmospheric electronic components and rhythmic components with drums/percussion/beats, but I know very few songs that have electronic keyboards/ambient and don't have any drums/percussion/beats at all (which is sad for me, because this kind of atmospheric non-metal song without any drums/percussion/beats works much better for me, and, even more importantly, these songs are listenable and helpful in certain situations/periods of time when I am not able to listen to any other kinds of songs at all), so that's why I'm asking for only this kind of recommendation.

The song "The Fifth World" by ISON is very atmospheric and beautiful, and I like the sound of the music and the female vocals, but there are beats/drums in the music so it doesn't fit into the request.

I've checked out these bands/projects and realized that I should have made the description of the second request clearer.
None of these albums/songs fit into the second request, because the second request is for songs that have a combination of acoustic guitars and some atmospheric electronic music.

I'm sorry, I'll try to correct my own mistake and to convert this description into a more normal-looking and detailed form:

i.e. to fit into the second request, musically these songs must have:

acoustic guitars + some atmospheric keyboards
or
acoustic guitars + some other kind of sad (and not too dark/unsettling) electronic ambience
or
acoustic guitars + some atmospheric keyboards + some other kind of sad (and not too dark/unsettling) electronic ambience.

Also, the same preferences for music in the second request: no any drums/percussion/beats.

This part in the description of the request is about songs that, in addition to acoustic guitars and atmospheric electronic components, also have some violin, cello, flute, etc. They also fit into the request.
For example, something like this song that has acoustic guitars (but the guitar playing on this song is a little too 'fast' for the request, I'm looking for something a little slower) and some sad atmospheric electronic elements, and that also has the additional string musical instruments: https://youtu.be/oAA_kAqunsE?t=167 (2:47-...)

Oh no, absolutely not. :(

One of the reasons why I have limited this request to "songs with female vocals" is because there are more chances to find songs with lyrics that are acceptable for me personally.

I just checked out the lyrics and comments for "Lips of Ashes" on SongMeanings.com and, regardless of the music, this song is absolutely unacceptable here (and it doesn't matter that the lyrics are kind of 'abstract', - this song is unlistenable for me).

Sorry, I'll just copy-paste the lyrics / imagery-related clarification from my previous request on MA:

sjal wrote:
as for song titles/lyrical themes/album covers, songs/albums with violent or misogynist/racist/and the like lyrics/imagery are absolutely unlistenable for me, so, please, don't post any songs/albums with these kinds of song titles/lyrics/album covers.
Songs from albums like these - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=128292 are also absolutely unacceptable here.

Thanks.

If songs with male vocals have acceptable lyrical themes, then they are also suitable for the request (but songs with female vocals are still preferable).

Ah, my bad, I forgot about the female vocals... Well, It's like squaring the circle, I'm throwing in the towel!

Hello.

I've checked out a few requests about "non-metal songs with acoustic guitars" (that I've found via the MA forum search) and I've found an album that fits into the second part of my request (but that's all I could find, unfortunately):

OK, I think I need to make the second request a little wider: maybe anyone knows slow or slow/mid tempo songs that have a sad mood, female vocals, non-distorted/clean-er electric guitars, and some atmospheric keyboards/other (additional) electronic elements (and that don't have drums/beats/percussion)?
+ Songs that have some additional acoustic musical instruments (string or wind) are also okay.
For example, maybe there are some songs that are similar to this song "Риби та Хвилi" by Вежа Хмар - https://youtu.be/kueWA4JPf6k?t=1007 (16:47-20:34) (songs that have some additional bass guitar are also okay).

So lately, I've been getting into Cedamus's "Song of the Forest", and I like the mix of black metal/dungeon synth/techno in this one. I wonder if there's any other albums that have this similar mix and does it just as well as Cedamus.
