I'm looking for Black Metal with a super thick, static choked production. The "wall of Sound" style that is very popular in Shoegaze and Dream Pop. But I am not looking for BlackGaze, or Hipster Black Metal or whatever you are supposed to call it. Not that I don't like those bands, but I want Raw Black Metal, Orthodox Black Metal, Bestial Black Metal, whatever, as long as it has that style of production. Nothing that sounds thin or "frostbitten," but has a massive, skull crushing guitar and bass tone that also has some warmness to it and with the vocals sounding and feeling distant and ethereal. The more static and distortion the better.

I have some examples of what I am looking for, including a few Shoegaze songs:
Whirr/Whirl: This is the exact style of production I am looking for.
Pinkshinyultrablast: Another Shoegaze example of what I am looking for production-wise.
Obolus: Depressive Raw Black Metal with a wonderfully massive production.
The Beast of the Apocalypse: Love how the fuzz of the guitars feels both heavy as fuck yet oddly inviting, and the vocals are perfect in the mix.

As I said before, any genre of Black Metal except BlackGaze. I will also be sure to personally thank anyone who rec's me something good.

I appreciate anything

Not sure if it's what you're looking for stylistically, but Darkspace pummels my head and ears whenever I listen to them. It just envelopes me. Yet there's a purpose behind all the noise and it is often beautiful.

It's black/funeral doom actually, but you might enjoy this, at least the wall of sound production seems to be what you're looking for:

First of all, I love the shogegaze stuff you posted as an example. Really awesome rec, even though you're the one asking for recs xD

It might be a bit obvious, but Deathspell Omega's "Paracletus" is absolutely massive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7ENR2iGuy4

Inquisition's "Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm" isn't very raw, but is huge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kh-flTHE2G8

Vallendusk doesn't have one instrument which stands out as being particularly massive, but the whole production is pretty full and warm sounding: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gA0CM_dl ... re=related

I'm not able to link to anything at the moment, but N.K.V.D.'s EP Diktatura is about as wall-of-sound as black metal can get.

@samekh: I know, and adore, Darkspace.

@garthmargengi: Interesting project. Will need more time to absorb it... kind of a grower to me but with great potential.

@lennonlikesmetal: Moon are fucking awesome, thanks for this rec. Just how I like my Black Metal... raw yet massive and powerful because the production keeps all the dirtiness of the recording... perfect.

@rumpusaurus: Yeah I agree, Inquisition and Deathspell Omega are both awesome, God-tier Black Metal by any stretch of the imagination. As for Vallendusk, it didn't reach out and grab me right away, but it wasn't bad and I will certainly continue to explore their music. The production was spot on though.

@Of_This_Night36: Armageddon Holocaust were solid, but Old Morgul was fucking brilliant. I already know Limbonic Art, but Odium sounded cool.

@MalignantThrone: My favorite so far. The production is perfect in every way: it feels like a massive wave of static nightmares just fall upon you in a deluge. Thanks a lot for this.

Keep them coming guys... loving these recs so far.

how is this? i think this rec fills most of the requirements but i think the vocalists voice will be slightly too high in the mix, hope you enjoy it anyways

First thing I thought of upon reaching this thread was Aosoth. Feels like travelling through an aurally dense fog... on fire.

Though perhaps it isn't as warm as you'd like it, maybe I can come up with something better.

@SatanicPotato: Funny, I really didn't like the song you posted, but I checked out a track from the bands previous album and really enjoyed. The track(or album preview, whatever) you posted had lots of static, but the guitar tone was too thin. But the bands previous album had that massive, thick guitar tone. Thanks for this one.

@metallicbrain666: Not quite what I am looking for. I like the rawness of the production, but again the guitar tone was too thin and "frostbitten." Not that this is a bad thing: the track was fine. Just not quite what I am looking for with this thread.

@VaeFUCKINGVictus: Yeah, Aosoth rule, and are exactly what I am looking for. They were one of the bands on my mind when I made this thread. If you have any other rec's, feel free to share.

Burzum's Filosofem was probably the first Black Metal album to utilize this.

You may like Strid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meBnVwdSFy8

I Shalt Become also has this sort of thing going on.

@PromeIncarn: Strid's production certainly fits the bill. I loved it, but the actual song itself was kind of... meandering. Still, a band worth checking out. And yeah, I adore Filosofem. Easily in my top 3 all time Black Metal albums. I pretty much love everything Burzum has done.

@McCannFan: That was cool. But a question: were their any vocals? Hahaha, if there were any vocals, they were really buried down in the mix. Still good stuff regardless, will be getting some of their material.

Just want to thank everyone again for their time and effort. So far N.K.V.D., Moon and Old Morgul have been my favorites, but all of the recommended bands are really good.

If anyone has anything more, feel free to post it!

No vocals in that song I believe, but there are in this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb50bwq0 ... re=related they are pretty buried.

Kind of obvious and probably not what you're looking for since you've most likely already heard it, but I've got to mention it since it hasn't been mentioned yet: "Anthems"-era Emperor is pretty thick and "wall of sound"-esque.

If you're not already familiar, Damaar is a war metal band with a brilliant "everything louder than everything else" approach.

S.V.E.S.T. - Urfaust has a wall of sound of static and epic riffs underneath.
