- review on The Corroseum mentions progressive metal with epic qualities, some galloping metal riffs, and rock/AOR as well, and a ballad. Would be great to find samples.

BuriedUnborn, should Palace not be added to the list? I see that a couple of tracks were found and they were blacklisted for not being metal the day after you posted them here. If you want to try to track down the rest of the release I'll add them, though.

Hey guys, it's been a while. Here I have two new bands which are needing research :

Needs research. - Mugshot
Location: Germany
Listed genre: Groove Metal
Discography: "Demo" demo tape 1995
I uploaded the demo here (found on metalarea.org) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtoHCuV ... undUploads

- With a name like that and so few information, I really doubt we could find anything interesting. I think that all we have to do is to miraculously have a comment from a band member under the video. Plus, the name of the demo is probably not just "demo" it may have a unique title, a song title, idk, since there is no picture available it's impossible to say. All I know is that on metalarea it was titled this way.

Needs research. - Coma
Spoiler: show
Location: Germany
Listed genre: Thrash Metal
Discography: "Demo" demo tape 1994
I uploaded the demo here (found on metalarea.org) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yt4sdP ... undUploads

- Same case as Mugshot above. No more info. I noticed there was a band on the archives with the same name : https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Coma/76879
They released a promo tape in 1994 as well, both are thrash metal bands. The only reallly different thing is that one is coming from germany and the other from poland. The polish demo has 5 tracks, and the german one 6, which is close, maybe that's the same band and they re-released the tape with an additional song. But tbh I doubt they're the same band, I think it's just a coincidence. Anyway, it will be hard to have more info on it.

- (Spooky) already listed in the thread. Thanks for the post - going to add Mugshot to the list right now. By the way, feel free to research and submit anything that I posted in here, the NWOBHM research list that can be accessed from the first post in this thread, Amethyst list, or bands whose bio/additional notes mention a release under a significantly different name that aren't yet on the site.

Needs research. - Amorion
Location: France
Genre: Symphonic Metal
Discography: "Progeny from a Phenomenon", album from 2010. Wasn't able to find anything else online about this band and the release, apart from that mention on SoM. Any help will be much appreciated.

The artist in question: https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/ ... agne/20377

https://www.spirit-of-metal.com/pt/band/Amorion

I'll send him a message about this.

Update: I've received a message from the band member, who told me that he doesn't have the release with him. I think this is now officially lost media. Any help to track this down will be much appreciated.

-----------------

Needs research. - Private
Location: France
Genre: Symphonic/Gothic Metal
Discography: Apparently, a self-titled album, with an unknown date.

They were featured on the World of Glass Volume II compilation: https://www.spirit-of-metal.com/pt/albu ... _II/224608

There's also a picture of the band on the compilation's folder, but doing a reverse image search, I wasn't able to find anything in concrete:
Spoiler: show

Crossed off The Motowns. Azmodes tracked down the full release, and it's rock/pop/punk music (aside from the YouTube song that had been found).

I had actually gotten my hands on the tracks right after I made that post, surprisingly. The band was blacklisted for apparently being hard rock, although I think firmly they were heavy metal.

The entire demo is uploaded to my YouTube channel but it's unlisted since the people who shared it with me told me it should be for personal use only, so if you want to listen to it then you'll have to DM me.

Needs research. - AfterShock / Hanus Crime (maybe the same band with a name change)
Listed genre: Heavy Metal
Location: Chicago, Illinois, US
Band members (AfterShock): https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/ ... nus/234537 , Bob Weymouth (lead guitars), Wayne Maxson (rhythm guitars), and Mark McMillen (vocals).
https://imgur.com/axOhwr5 (1989 AfterShock article)
https://www.discogs.com/release/1538742 ... anus-Crime (Tommy Hanus is the only known member of this band so far - but the title of it is "AfterShock", and it came out a year after the above article). Their song "Stole My Love" was on the Chicago Metal Works 6 compilation CD (1990). Have sent a FB message to Tommy today.

Added. - Fantasm
Spoiler: show
Location: Mt. Prospect/Chicago, Illinois, US
Listed genre: Progressive Power Metal
https://imgur.com/a/OsPokdT - nothing much known yet. Just looks like an interesting band. The flyer is from 1990.

No releases - info from former member. - Ptolemy
Spoiler: show
Location: Illinois (in or around Chicago?)
https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=13 ... 0121592235 - looks metal, probably early/mid-'90s. Maybe the 2 people at this link could help out with more info, as they seem to be band members and names written on the flyer. (have sent a message to Donald on FB)

Added. - Strych-9
Spoiler: show
- could be the Ohio band on the site by this name. Since this is on a local Chicago page, also very likely that it is a different band from Illinois. 2 songs are "Lobotomy Labrador" and "Disciples of Woe". 1990, B.A.M.M. Productions.
https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10 ... 0121592235
(have contacted this person on Facebook - said he'd look for the j-card)

Needs research. - Black Tape
Listed genre: Punk (but this Discogs user is way off on a lot of genre listings. Looks like it could be metal, and that is mostly what they've contributed)
Location: Greece
Discography: "Paranoia" demo '94
Discogs: https://www.discogs.com/release/2346459 ... e-Paranoia

Needs research. - Hypodermic
Location: Svendborg, Syddanmark, Denmark
Band member (?) - contact name is Jakob Hansen. There are 4 artists by that name on the site.
Genre: Thrash Metal/Hardcore
Discography: "Frustration" demo (approximately 1994)
Review in "Necroticism" #5 'zine: https://imgur.com/FyCfSkh
Translation to English: Danish bands can never be enough! HYPODERMIC from Svendborg plays what I would characterize as hardcore thrash. This has to be their debut demo, because it sounds a bit like "beginner". Especially some of the riffs are a bit too used, but it's cool that they're up to something. cooler than on "Frustration" if they fight. Check it out anyway. Jakob Hansen Skårupørestrandvej 5 / DK-5700 Svendborg.

RESOURCES/IDEAS FOR FINDING UNLISTED BANDS:

If anyone has something to add to this list, feel free to post or send a pm, and I'll add it here. BuriedUnborn, you had posted an archived database of some sort recently, but I can't find it at the moment.

- Discogs, eBay, Heavy Metal Rarities forum, The Corroseum, and YouTube are the main go-to's that I use. Tshirt Slayer has some obscure bands on it also, though they have a strict message about using images from the site: https://tshirtslayer.com/
- Looking into unlisted bands on metal compilations. Typing the name and song title (especially in quotations, this always helps with searches) can sometimes get a result showing more info, sometimes a valid release.
- Magazine scans: there are 127 older metal mags here that were scanned in and can be paged through (mostly Metal Forces, Kerrang!, Metal Hammer) -
https://www.yumpu.com/user/gusmonsanto
- Facebook: there are sometimes results for rare music by typing in specific release titles, or "(name of band here)" "band" in the main search area. Maybe most people know about this already, but the search function on a profile page on FB - like if you find an artist whose music you're interested to find out more about, typing the band name can get you to references of it instantly so you don't have to scroll through as much. Also, groups for specific cities/regions, venues (old and new) often have group pages that can lead to underground finds.
- Unlisted bands of artists on the site: typing the artist and band names into Google in quotations has led to some good finds. Often times these bands are added to artist pages without being looked into much, so a lot haven't been looked into for possible site inclusion.
- Adding new bands due to the technicality of a release belonging to a band with a significantly different name, but their material is mentioned or listed in the other band's discography. Here are some searches - other similar ones can also be tried (note: proof of release and metalness still has to be verified before they're added in these cases) -

https://www.metal-archives.com/search/a ... re=#albums

https://www.metal-archives.com/search/a ... re=#albums

https://www.metal-archives.com/search/a ... re=#albums

- mp3.com archive. Yes, that's the majority of the songs (I believe). Might get the entire list soon, but in order to get the entire archive you'll have to download it from archive.org. I have access to the mp3s from someone else's PC so if you need any song in the list, DM me. All the stuff there is from 2000 to 2003; there are some songs from before which were added back then but the vast majority of mp3s are from those years.
- Check archived sites by bands from the 2000s, they almost always had a "Links" section that referred to other bands or sites with lists of bands.
- Random Spotify searches can return results that might be useful.
- Check for bands which artists on MA might have played in and try to dig up info on them.
- Look at compilations on Discogs, there are a lot with unsubmitted artists.
- Some old MySpace music is saved here: http://lostmyspace.com/?q=

- Check Instagram follower lists of bands on the site. Then you might find lots of unlisted bands most of which might be located in same area too. By my experience most matches are almost ready to submit since Spotify link is quite often included and if there's just one single or multiple ones with same artwork released the band could be saved for later. It's also worth checking possible concert posts on the page; there might've been bands not yet listed. And the most important thing: focus on underground bands. Research process is quite faster then plus on higher follower rates it's also not possible to see all followers.
(thanks, Miro Alhonniemi and Buried Unborn for some of these suggestions).

- Alternative search engine to Google: Yanex (thanks, GodOfMalice, for the suggestion)
"Good for finding VK and obscure sites. A (possibly) interesting feature is that it appears to include dead links (facebook, apple music, etc). it can be frustrating but also promising if proper archiving has been done for those sites."

Has been submitted on full discography, awaiting decision. Nothing more to research. - Strange Flavor
Spoiler: show
Location: Japan
Genre: Heavy Metal (?), Hard Rock (?)
Discography: Strange Flavor (demo tape, 1992?, 1993?) -- Discogs link

This is a pre-Blaze band. One track Underground Heroes seems to be metal (youtube), and this track was also on a Blaze release. Don't know about the other two tracks.

To complement the rest of what you said, some ideas I have:

1. Check archived sites by bands from the 2000s, they almost always had a "Links" section that referred to other bands or sites with lists of bands.

2. Random Spotify or YouTube searches can return results that might be useful.

3. Check for bands which artists on MA might have played in and try to dig up info on them.

4. Look at compilations on Discogs, there are a lot with unsubmitted artists.

The first method is definitely gonna get you dozens of bands, just need to start somewhere and then it becomes an entire web of bands and you go from one to another finding more and more links.

Re: Strange Flavour

There's a retrospective album coming out in Japan in August from Bang The Head Records: https://diskunion.net/metal/ct/detail/1008506562

Compilation of their demos 'First Rough Takes' (1990), 'Strange Flavour' (1992), 'No Man's Land' (live recording) and two unreleased songs. Style generally described as hard rock, but also NWOBHM and Thin Lizzy comparisons, so may be eligible.

Needs research. - Malhavok
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, US
Band member (contact name: John Juniman. Note: this compilation has some misspellings, so either the band or John's name could be slightly different).
- Thrash Metal compilation track from 1989. All of the other songs on it come from 1989 demo tapes from bands that are listed on M.A. It's extremely likely that this band put a demo out in '89. This is the only unknown band on it, and no Internet searches turned anything up. Their song is called "Down the Drain", on "At the Speed of Light" compilation (Psychoslaughter, compiled by Sean Panek who did a 'zine by this name, out of Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania. He might recall more details about this band as well).

Additional info from billm99uk:
Spoiler: show
Zeedrug appears to have started off as a band called 'Cold-Zin' in Yokohama, Kanagawa prefecture, based at the well known venue 'Yokohama 7th Avenue'. 7th Avenue is still going today and handily keeps a list of bands appearing back as far as 1985: https://www2.big.or.jp/~7th/schedule/backnumber.html
From that Cold-Zin appears regularly from May 1990 to June 1991. They then take a break for a few months, I believe they lost their vocalist Taru and guitarist Ikeda at this point, before coming back as 'Zee Drug' with two(?) new members in December 1991. See 23rd gig here:

https://www2.big.or.jp/~7th/schedule/bn/9112.html

They appear almost monthly up to October 1992 when they seem to have disappeared. From message boards, drummer Hide (Real Name: Hidehiko Noji/野地英彦 - 'Fide' on the tape is a typo - the Japanese alphabet doesn't support names beginning with 'F'!) died in a motorcycle accident on November 3rd 1993 and bassist Vazzy (Hayato Uematsu) quit music entirely (possibly as a result) to become a triathlete. According to Cold-Zin's original guitarist Kenji 'Zin-ke' Ikeda (Blog: https://zinkeguitar.hatenablog.com/ ) the remaining members then split over the usual musical differences. He's still active today in Tokyo-based rock band Asiro.

Cold-Zin/Zee Drug's musical style is described as 'Hard Rock', but seems to have been sufficiently heavy to appear at events like 'Metal Counterattack' and support the likes of Bellzlleb. Might need samples, I guess?

Tape date seems to be maybe a year out based on that info as the 'Zee Drug' name was only used 1991-1993?

Re: Kaiser

Yes, different band from the Osakan Kaizer already listed. Not sure if you meant to post a photo of the tape insert (the cover is linked twice) but here's one: https://i.imgur.com/WzOXGpY.jpg

The address listed is in 北九州市 (Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture).
Band Members: Betty (Vo), 小島政義 Masayoshi Kojima (Gu & Ba) & 入江正 Masa Irie (also Gu & Ba).
Can't read the drummer's name as it's a bit too fuzzy on the copy I saw though.
