Did a mod by chance get to read over this? I feel like there should be enough here to warrant making a page for this band.

(The) Paralysing Prophecy (Germany?, Death Metal, c. 1998 - c. 2000/2001)

- Free Imprisoned (September or November 1998, full-length)
- Destroy the Mistery (2000, live split CD with Path of Golconda)

Lineup:
Manuel Bigus - Unknown (per this old review)

Bit of an odd case. I found these guys while doing some research on the Messed Up Albums Thread. The(?) Paralysing Prophecy (I can't find a definitive source of whether The is an official part of the name) is actually the second incarnation of a band with a few name changes. The band is already here under their first name, The Prophecy, and under their third name, Downstroke, but does not have a page for this incarnation.

As you can see above, both of their releases are already on the site, in somewhat incomplete form. The first album, Free Imprisoned, is currently listed on the Downstroke page, with remarks in the additional notes that it was released under the Paralysing name, though it lacks cover art and lineup. It doesn't appear to have been edited since the V2 roll-out, which probably explains why it's never been corrected. The split is listed in our Messed-Up Albums thread; it appears that the Path of Golconda side was added as a stand-alone entry back in V1, and the info on P.P.'s side of the split seems to have been lost to time. It also appears that Path of Golconda shares various members with other incarnation of the band, so that may be another path to look into for information.

I don't have any solid info on a lineup. There are a few members linked to both of the previous incarnations, so it would stand to reason that they would have been in the incarnation that bridged the two, but that's all speculation. Additionally, the entries we already have, both for the different band incarnations and the two albums, all seem to have slightly contradicting information, so it's hard to trust the dates and such.

Now, for the main hurdle: I cannot find anything in the way of samples, unfortunately. The most I can provide is this review of the full-length from metal.de; the music here is described as death metal that sounds like "unenthusiastic Crematory". Conversely, this review of the full-length from blog Underground Empire mentions that it mixes "elements of Gothic and Black metal". An entry for the band at musik-sammler.de also lists the genre as Death Metal/Gothic Metal. Granted, I'm reading these reviews from Google Translate; it may say something completely different in the native German.

Even if this one doesn't have everything needed to make a new entry, I'll be looking to clean up the existing pieces regarding the band to make them all more uniform and coherent.

Azmodes, did you get a chance to read through this, reference Jack Off Guys?

Wading through a ton of Google results for gay porn (terrible band name), I found this GeoCities site, which is either official, or a really thorough fan page. It includes a bio and an email to purchase all three J.O.G. releases. The updates to the band history and upcoming shows tabs stops around Fall 2000, but the shop page includes the 2001 and 2002 albums as well.

There are two samples from the 2002 album for download on the 'sound' tab, bot in .ram filetype. The first is the same song linked in the original YouTube video. The second is another song, "I go to Heaven"; I tried to convert the file into a more easily-readable format like MP3, but none of the programs I have off-hand worked. If anyone has Real Media Player or another .ram compatible program, go for it.

I did also find two other links that seem to corroborate the YouTube bio's claim that they reformed and toured. Both of these are tour history pages for other bands where Jack Off Guys is mentioned:

-Page 1
-Page 2

===========

I struck out with both Gideon Knights and Hot Coke, the only info on either really coming from either the linked YouTube videos, or pages about the VA Comps they are featured on in said YouTube videos.

I'm sure someone has already done so, but if not, perhaps we could reach out to the person behind that YouTube channel and see if he could shed some light on his sources. He seems to be fairly proficient in the scene.

Sorry for the delay MCH. Nice job finding that site, looks like the release issue is satisfied, but I have no clue right now how to get that sample to play. Besides, while two songs are definitely better than one, it's still rather slim.

EDIT: hmmmm, seems like the files are no longer working? I just get super tiny files when I try to save it locally.

If you open the .ram files with a text editor you get the direct link to the download you just well...downloaded, because .ram is "Link file used by RealPlayer, a program used for streaming Internet audio and video; saved in plain text and contains a hyperlink to a corresponding .RA file, which can be streamed; includes a "pnm" or "rtsp" URL, which are the protocols used to access and play RealAudio data."
https://fileinfo.com/extension/ram

That's why they're so tiny.

EDIT: Files are still working, currently listening to them and searching a way to save it

EDIT 2: here you go, I hope (It's the "I GO TO HEAVEN" song)

Answer for the user, who has asked about the band Talisman on Frontiers Records in Augist 2017. This band plays hard rock, not metal. It was a project of Jeff Scott Soto and the bassist Marcel Jacob. It has ended after Jacob's suicide a couple of years back

Added. - Infernal Forces (USA)
Spoiler: show
I've been trying to track down any info for Infernal Forces (San Mateo, California) to get them added to the site.

They were a speed/thrash metal band who were active in the late 1980s and had a 5-track demo tape available (which was sold in a couple local record stores) called "Words of Wisdom." I regret not picking that up at the time, and therefore was unable to submit sufficient "Proof of Existence" when I tried to add the band to the site. Billy Boldt was the vocalist, they had a guitarist named Jason; I don't know the other members.

It appears they had at least one other tape out but "Words of Wisdom" is the one I remember

Here is a youtube clip of the band: (I found this at least!)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDJNXYI5hp4

Anyone out there can help?

It's a little strange, though, because an announcement like the one I see @4:30 and a tape photo like the one that appears @5:35 should normally suffice as proof. Did you refer the mods to these two instances in the video? The article speaks of an "epic new demo release".

They also appear on this compilation tape:

Seems it's a single/EP release for that very song and that image with the pink logo might be the cover?

This is fine in any event and can be submitted.

EDIT: ah yeah, I didn't catch the tape announcement. Thanks, Antioch.

I don't think he submitted it recently. There's a post about it from 2010 in the rejections thread, long before that video was uploaded.

It's the first thing that appears in a google search, so users might be tempted.

There's a lot of misinformation:
Active years 1986-1988 but the tape "Frisco's Falling" was actually released in 1990.
Also, I believe the album listed there has never existed.

So I assume the line-up listed there isn't reliable, either.

Heavy grunge rock. - Freedom Force
Spoiler: show
I have a request regarding the Canadian band Freedom Force. I have all the info needed for a submission, but I would need samples from the complete demo "The Truth", which was rleased in 1994 on cassette. Freedom Force was a christian heavy metal band, that was active in the early nineties. All members were French Canadians.. https://www.discogs.com/Freedom-Force-T ... e/11508426 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-_CX2-mkjo
Their first demo was apparently in hard rock style, so it is of no use for the submission. Thanks.
Edit: Here is another song from their demo, a ballad, those are the only songs I have in the moment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6LXS6abluk
This is apparently the Youtube account of their former vocalist/drummer Yvon Grenier: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfLB-O ... _rmo-NRa2A

It says potential addition bands and i searched and didn't found a better one

The only other i found that comes close is for complaining when bands don't get accepted, which is less of a fit if you ask me.

Just point the right way and i'll be happy to post elsewhere

No can do. All I know is that this isn't the purpose of the thread.

Somar wrote:

You're not sure about metal-ness, and yet you post here. Sounds like pre-checking, which you oughtn't to be doing anyway.

Somar wrote:

The band doesn't require more research. In fact, it'd been in the queue before you posted. So, again, it doesn't belong in this thread.

Hope this helps. If in doubt, read the first post (again), or wait for a mod's response.

No can do. All I know is that this isn't the purpose of the thread.

If in doubt, read the first post (again), or wait for a mod's response.

it's my 3rd or 4th similar post on this same thread and no mod has said anything, if you can't point out a better one, I'll just keep doing it until someone with actual power tells me not to

or i can just not give a fuck, if all i get for trying to help is some random dude complaining when he cannot point to a better place and no one else, including mods and administrators complained about it for almost a month, might as well just don't give a rats ass if the site is updated or not

1. Watch your attitude, Antioch was trying to be helpful. No need to be rude and disrespectful.

2. He is correct, this is not what this thread is for. This thread is for bands that need more research to be able to be added to the site. All of the bands you've posted here can just be added based on links found with a simple search or just looking at new releases on bandcamp. In fact, 2 of the bands you've posted here were already in the queue pending for approval when you posted about them.

1. when i search a band there's nothing telling me if it's already pending or not

2. if you're a pro looking for this stuff, i'm not, the info i posted was all i had, some of them had band members missing, some had the incomplete discography, so on. I don't plan on adding the bands myself, so i rather let someone who knows how to it properly do it in my place, and for that i need a place to post, Since i didn't had all the info and from my POV all the requirements in the OP were met, i did it here
- band is not listed
- don't have all the info
- post so others can research further and add it

3. still no one pointed out to me the right place to do it

1) the band queue has a seperate search function.

2) technically not all fields have to be entered in order to make a submission.

I can understand both sides of the medal. There is not much research needed which makes a post here borderline at best, but you often can't define whether or not a band is unsigned or not or if they are still active by looking at bandcamp and setting it to "unknown" is a bit lazy. 2 key requirements for a submission (even though they are often guesswork), so there is research to be done, but mostly only clicking on their facebook...
Or at least checking if they are already in the queue would be great, though.

3) If they don't want those posts here, just drop me a PM with the infos and I'll take care of it.

Finally someone who knows how to take matters to his own hands and come up with solutions.

It was fucking amateur hour until now.

A jackass playing "wannabe mod" and a staff member as incompetent and useless as they come.

What this thread was originally envisioned for is covering the more obscure stuff that defies adding because it's lacking crucial evidence when it comes to actual samples/musical description or release (or both). I would like to keep this topic to the artists that simply elude initial online investigation and could benefit from other people having a go at the search (online or IRL). Bands that we can't properly assess one way or another, but don't want to lose to oblivion in case someone comes up with new insights on them. So posting Bandcamp links for others to add a band is missing the point, as that implies that there is neither samples nor release proof missing. Also, as the OP states, this is not a "not sure if this qualifies, so maybe someone wants to give it a go" kind of thing.

I admit that there is a grey area to this, but please try to use common sense (and carefully read the OP) and don't just drop obvious stuff in here. If you find any bands with the needed proof pretty much presented on a silver platter, but for some reason can't invest a minute to put together a quick submission, I guess feel free to PM another user more active in the band queue. However, as Paganius said, you don't need to fill in all the blanks, a submission can be pretty bare-bones as long as the two required pieces of evidence are included. People can always update the entry later on. As such, we don't have an official "easy and obvious band subs collection" thread; I mean, why compile a list of bands that can just as well be submitted right away? In a way, the band queue is that thread.

One last thing, Somar; you've been warned about your attitude once already. Consider this the second and final warning.
