MAGMA - https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=39 ... 9809220817 (last gig was in Gloucester - possibly from that area)

I don't think Magma is an interesting band for MA.

Magma were formed in 1982. The (UK) was added later after realising that there was a French progressive rock band with the same name. John and Andy had both played together previously in a band called Black Sudan who supported Mask at The Copperfields, Stealer (later to become Chateaux) at Eve’s Nightclub and Sheene (temporarily named Masterstroke for a gig at the Tythe Barn, Bishops Cleeve- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JY1ajSOvAkg). Alec Houston’s (Stealer / Chateaux) practice room at Bishops Cleeve was used for practicing, hence the photographs taken at Smith’s Industries Car Park (the only place you could safely park nearby!).
Gig List
22.12.82 Neptune’s Vaults, The Fountain Inn, Cheltenham.
16.04.83 The Night Owl, Cheltenham.
25.06.83 Severn Sound “Rock and a Cast of Thousands” (John
Benns)
01.07.83 Neptune’s Vaults, The Fountain Inn, Cheltenham.
16.07.83 Apperley Village Hall (for Tewkesbury and District
Bike Club)
22.07.83 The Barge Semington, Gloucester Docks.
Magma’s last gig was at The British Flag in Gloucester (probably in
August 1983).

I think these bands are much better suited for MA

Can't seem to find anything on these guys. They only ever appeared on this split and I can't find a download for it.

https://www.discogs.com/release/1214365 ... -The-North

https://www.metal-archives.com/albums/W ... .../712264

I'll grab the copy that's on Discogs. Will report back.

Update - this arrived today. I am in no rush at all to listen to it but I will find time to confirm the eligibility of Rodoslov. Keeping you posted...

Whatever happened with this band? Not metal?

Bought a copy of Don't Ask Me.

This is more like 90s heavy alternative/hard rock. I don't think it's MA material, but will keep an eye out for the other release nonetheless.

Nice find, Antioch - thanks. I haven't looked at the archived site thoroughly, but if there's enough information there to submit them, feel free to do so.

Needs research. - Insult
Location: Aarhus, Denmark
Listed genre: Death/Groove Metal
Discography: "Contribution to Society" 4-song demo tape (1996). Discogs has them linked to a band whose song "Hollow" was featured on a 1997 CD compilation, "Extremity Rising Vol. 3" (Serious Entertainment) - unable to verify that they're the same band so far.
Discogs: https://www.discogs.com/artist/7955865- ... lter_anv=0 (member first names can be seen in the j-card here - 'more images')

Needs research. - Chud
Location: San Antonio, Texas, US
Info here, which came from a Texas Scene Report in an old 'zine: https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/ ... tine/21158
- have sent a FB message to the band Valkyrie, which Scott plays in currently.
(update: they messaged back, and said that Scott doesn't have any Chud recordings. Didn't mention whether or not any exist)

Needs research. - Baad Newz
Location: San Antonio, Texas, US
- formed in 1984. Here is a review of a demo that they did in the '80s, "Deceiver of Dreams": https://imgur.com/aUuqhtp
At that time they were playing "Classy Heavy Metal", but they've continued on for many years and changed their style:
https://www.reverbnation.com/baadnewztheband/songs
Depending on what else can be dug up, they might belong on the site based on their early output.

JoeCubbie: Azmodes got a copy of the Rhesus 7", and it is more hard rock than metal, with some psychedelic influences. Going to cross them off of the list - cool stuff, though.

Regarding Rodoslov -
VoiceOfSteel: Whatever happened with this band? Not metal?[/quote]
- Just asked CMG92 about it, and he said that the CD is acoustic folk music. Going to cross off the list.

Needs research. - Local Band Network
https://www.localbandnetwork.com/bands/ ... Filter=ALL
(edit 9/28/23): More effective might be this documented list of CDs on the site within the metal genre -
https://www.localbandnetwork.com/cds/in ... TYPE=Metal )

Needs research. - CDBaby store - expired webpage with info about bands/releases
This might be worth looking through as well. They sold a lot of independent music, and maybe some of it got overlooked. The link is a search within their inactive store for Metal, archived in 2020:
https://web.archive.org/web/20200213155 ... tyle/metal
Same search, archived in 2017:
https://web.archive.org/web/20170918205 ... tyle/metal
Could try archives in 2018 and 2019 also - not sure how different they would be. The two links above are the first and last captures available.

Due to space constraints, the main alphabetical research list is now divided into 3 parts (instead of 2) that can be accessed from the first post in this thread. Within that 'table of contents' post, categories outside of the main research section also have ongoing lists of potential additions that aren't reserved, and are open for anyone to research and submit from if enough can be found to do so (proof of metalness from audio clips or 'zine reviews, and proof of release - photo, mention of a release on a band's official site, or if very obscure, a screenshot of a band member stating details about a release, or digital releases that meet the artwork and 2-song minimum requirements.

Needs research. - Vain Mistres
Location: Seattle, Washington, US
Listed genre: Metal/Hard Rock
Discography: Self-titled demo tape (1994, Bad Rabbit Productions. Track listing: Cell Block #109/ While the Day Remains/ Craving You. Produced at "The Cave")

Maybe someone here would know more: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2467393 ... 561053217/

Needs research. - Mortalis
Location: Oakdale/New London, Connecticut
Genre: Death Metal (?)
- early '90s band. 3 members played in https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Excoriate/18553 a short time later. Since former members mentioned them in much later interviews, it seems like maybe they were semi-established and may have put out a demo. Vocalist Rick Finnegan passed away in 2016. The other 2 known members were Rob Wilgus (bass) and Chris Charland (drums).

Needs research. - Ujenyx
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Genre: Experimental Heavy Metal w/ other influences (need to listen more to see if metal is the primary sound. Interesting band, though). They were active from approximately 1984-'87.

https://www.angelfire.com/journal/archer/ter2.txt
Needs research. - Cataclyzm
Guitarist Carlos (R.I.P.) then played in Cataclyzm (likely more in the thrash metal direction) in the late '80s, before moving to the west coast to join Bonecrusher. Would like to find out if they had any recordings/releases.

A few early '90s metal bands from the Morro Bay/San Luis Obispo/Los Osos, California area that were name-dropped in a blog I was reading, in the topic of the band Mutilation (a.k.a. Cannibalistic Mutilation). Not much known, but they sound promising:
Needs research. - Intrepidus
https://imgur.com/pW2vgsP
Needs research. - Phycotrope (referred to as Psychotrope, but this is the spelling of the logo)
https://imgur.com/pW2vgsP
Needs research. - THC (Terminal Human Combustion)
Band member: Gisèle Jolie (msg. sent on FB)
Needs research. - No Remorse (referred to as an old school band - probably thrash)

Needs research. - Ashes of Christ

Country: Canada
Genre: Unknown, possibly black metal
Years Active: ????-2005

This is a former incarnation of A Winter Lost. Our notes on that page indicate a demo was released under the Ashes of Christ name, but unknown on name or year of said release.

Needs research. - Sticky Sweet

Country: Denmark
Genre: Heavy metal/Hard rock?
Years Active: ?

This is a former incarnation of Pure Innocence. They released one album in 1998, and then changed names. I could only find one song so far, but it and the various pages classing the band as "Hair Metal" don't give me much confidence in this one...

Added. - Dirty Fingers
Spoiler: show
Location: West Berlin, Germany
Contact name (possibly a band member): C. Zoschke
Discography: Demo 1987 (cassette), followed by 2 songs ("No Regrets" and "Mirrow, Glas, Shadow" - spelling is as printed) on this compilation: https://www.metal-archives.com/albums/F ... ._1/630285
Corroseum review of the 2 comp. tracks: "I'm not sure if the vocalist was actually female or not. He's doing a quite diversified job, definitely not the standard vocal presentation compared to the usual German singers. "Mirror, glas, shadow" is a nice ballad with no real highlight but "No regrets" shows a rather solid riff oriented Heavy Metal with good guitar work." Another section of the site says of "No Regrets": "SCORPIONS influenced metal with an irritating singer", and "Mirrow, Glas, Shadow": "Power ballad that comes off as a cross between SCORPIONS and GRAVESTONE."
- no 'zine appearances on their site for further info.

Needs research. - Fortress
Location: Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate
Activity period: 1981-about '90, at which point they hadn't yet found a vocal replacement.
Band members: Mark Dusan (vocals - from California, US. Left the band in '88), Horst, Kurt
Discography: Demo 1987 (2 songs - described at The Corroseum as "fast Metal with slightly party feeling")
- samples needed, mostly because "slightly party feeling" brings the genre into question a bit.

Needs research. - Tanis
Location: Hagen/Wuppertal, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
Listed genre: Melodic Heavy Metal
Band members: Joachim (vocals), Frank Kobe (guitar - also played in Straight Shooter), Reinhold Brieseck (bass - also played in Birth Control), Klaus (drums)
- info from The Corroseum. Formerly known as Brutus. They released a "professional" demo tape in late 1986, and were active at least into the following year.

Needs research. - Iapetus
Location: United Kingdom
Aeurtum was previously named "Iapetus", and in their Bandcamp it is mentioned that their first demo was originally released digitally under that name.

While I didn't really find anything, it might be worth looking into it, for if there's any proof that the release did in fact exist and was purchasable, then it's a potential addition to the site.

Needs research. - The Motowns (Switzerland)

Released the CD "Immortal" in 1990. Samples from the whole relase are needed to determine, if it is really consequently metal and also some more info about the release, including photos, possible entries in CD collections, internet auctions etc.

This is a dumb hint but seems like the guy running that YouTube channel owns the CD, as all the other songs uploaded to the channel have a photo like that over the same surface. I'm trying to contact the guy, but YouTube doesn't make it easy and the only option I've got is Google Hangouts (like if someone used it anyways).

The CD Was released via a label called Recycling Records. it's most probably NOT this one as it was founded in 2006 and doesn't release heavy metal records, so it's most probably an already defunct label from Switzerland, as I can't find any info about it in the web.

That channel has some other interesting bands that could probably be added to the archives but they seem to share the same problem as this one though.

EDIT: Same band as this one; same logo, from Switzerland, active in the same time period. That release is marked as Post-Punk but maybe it's wrongly labeled or the band changed genres with the 1990 CD.

EDIT 2: Recycling Records at Discogs, the label release another album by a post-punk band from Switzerland, so it's gotta be the same.

Witcher wrote:
Thanks for the update on Motowns. The song I have certainly does not sound post-punk, so they have probably changed their style for this release. I have already went therough the Swiss Melodic Rock vlog a couple of months ago and submitted three bads from it, two were accepted, one "Edison" was rejected for lack of proof and Azmodes was kind enough to post it in this thread for me, so Edison was also taken from that vlog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUZ7p9iho7c
Some bands with samples over there are already listed in the Archives, though some of them with the album in additionl notes, some are hard rock/aor based, more so than metal. I have tried to select the most metal sounding ones.

Witcher wrote:
To my surprise, maybe as a result of my post here, The Motowns album"Immortal" was suddenly added to Discogs. It was really released on Recycling Records and is maarked as "heavy metal/hard rock" there. So the only thing needed now are more samples to determine if it is more metal or hard rock:

There are a couple copies of that Motowns CD for sale on Discogs within Switzerland as well. Since Witcher is gone, anyone can submit this band once a couple more audio samples are available. The track on YouTube sounds promising.

Needs research. - Milícia
Location: Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil
- there is an article about them in "Metal Gods" #9 'zine (1989):
https://imgur.com/pQdjTb6 (logo/band photo included here)
Translation:
"Band from the city of Piracicaba, in the interior of São Paulo, with Alcides (guitar), Sergio (drums), Cesão (bass) and Silvio (vocals). Formed in 84, the MILÍCIA only came to dedicate itself more effectively to its career in 88, after several periods of stoppage. From then on, the group's heavy music filled the public's ears several times, mainly on the "Boca Livre" program, where the MILÍCIA performed in October 1988. The band should soon enter the studio to record a new demotape, entitled Injetando Veneno." - no results when typing this title along with the band name into google.

Needs research. - Eutanasia
Location: São Paulo, Brazil
Genre: Thrash Metal/Hardcore
https://imgur.com/sGH5qT4 (from the same 'zine as Milícia, above)
Translation:
Rubão (drums), Choco (vocals), Alessandro (bass) and Magrão (guitar) formed EUTANASIA in October 1988. The group started with an orientation towards hardcore, where fast, short songs with sharp lyrics predominated. Over time, it ended up leading to thrash, which is currently predominant.
Despite the short time of existence, EUTANASIA has already recorded a demo-tape "Corpos no Buraco", where these two trends are very clear. Contacts: Rubão-R. Inhana, 263-**

Needs research. - Nekron (Greece)

Seemingly a heavy metal band from Greece which released a cassette, arguably in the '90s, but the date is unknown. The cassette is on Discogs and is owned by 2 people, but the users don't show up, so I tried to contact the one user that gave the cassette a rating and I'm still waiting for a reply.

Absolutely nothing online, that Discogs entry is everything there's about the band anywhere. Maybe anyone with extensive knowled in Greek metal can dig up some info.

Blacklisted. - Palace (Netherlands)

Dutch heavy metal/hard rock band seemingly. Released a single-sided cassette titled "Jane", year unknown. Featured Huib de Vaan and Jos van Es. They were also featured in the "Metal in Rocks Volume III" compilation in 1990.

Every single piece of info on this band is on Discogs. Only two people own the cassette and I contacted one of them to ask if there was any way for them to share the tracks with me, but they acted like an asshole, so no luck.
