Regarding Symposium (Malaysia) who were featured on the split tape with The Hidden, their name is Sympozium despite what Discogs and a review list them as (Symposium). Should be changed on the list. 2 references about the name spelling from liner notes of the tape and the Myspace page of The Hidden:
https://myspace.com/hiddenasia/music/al ... um-7646241
(second photo here, first word printed) - https://nekrobanger.blogspot.com/2015/1 ... kaset.html
Review at that site describes (translated): Symphonic Black Metal rhythms a la Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir.
Lineup: Brie (vocals), Ones (guitars), Radus (keyboards), Warnz (bass), June (drums), Zamand (guitars)

I had the cassette but I sold it and I found it a few months ago in Malaysia. I didn't buy it as the shop was closed for a music festival that thay and the following dfay I had to go back to Thailand. Anyway, I already created a draft some time ago, waiting for some samplers.

One of the "The Hidden" song can be found online as it was released on the "Panggilan Pulau Puaka" compilation:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXSIPd9pttw

Please use my draft as there are almost full information about The Hidden, with all known band members

Regarding Testament (Bangladesh), drummer Syed is on Facebook and could be asked about the tape (though being an early project and with that Iron Maiden artwork being used, he might not want to talk about it much.)

Never replied. There is a specialized forum for bangladeshi heavy metal physical collectors, but it's banned for foreigners. I uploaded high quality scans of lot of rare tapes and CD, made WAV and FLAC rips (including some stuff that even local people overthere didn't have or were aware of) and, in return, I was banned as "not local". Can't even remember the name as I cut off links with all my previous BHD contacts since then

There is also Balam, the guitarist of Warfaze but I don't think he will ever reply either.

V1R7U4L (Argentina) can be removed. Audio found. First album might pass for borderline groove metal, the second one is nu-metal. Added in bands to be submitted, nothing more to research for them.

Vehement (a.k.a. V3h3m3nt) (Singapore) can be removed. They have 4 releases on Bandcamp and just need to be assessed. Added to bands that can be submitted thread. Nothing more to research about them.

Just missing the debut S/T album 2000. Can't listen to the songs on Bandcamp right now, but - eventually - pictures of the debut album can be found on Discogs

Rock Motor can be removed - added.

Medusa (Singapore) and Hurricane can be removed. Hurricane isn't metal at all, and sucks bad. Medusa has a couple of good metal tracks on the split, but the ballads did too much damage to their overall metalness. If someone disagrees, here are all of the links needed for a submission.

Corax Obitus can be removed. The original release was only about 3 minutes long, and it's not riffy stuff:
https://music.apple.com/ug/album/mask-o ... 1506376646

Steel Assassin can be removed. Stormspell recently made a post about how the person who was finally tracked down from that band sounded enthusiastic about a release and recording new songs, but dropped out of contact for a couple of years since then and no longer checks his Facebook. If the release happens someone will notice and add them at that time since it's a well-known label and it wouldn't go unnoticed. Nothing more to research for them.

Trial by Fire (New York, US) can be removed. Was added to the site recently.

Regarding Black Rollers (Fin), Kimmo Ahola produced and played guest keyboards on the band's 7". He's still in the business as a producer/engineer. Could be contacted about the record by someone with an Instagram account.
https://www.instagram.com/kimmo_ahola/

C.R.U.E. (Brazil) can be removed. Were added to the site in 2021.

Regarding Demonizer (Peru), their drummer Gabriel Segura also played in Stygia. All that's needed with this one is verification of release of "United by Your Hatred" (2013). It would be better for someone fluent in the language to contact him to ask.

Humphrey Metal Band is listed as having been posted by RetinalBurns, but it was posted by Baldadeath:
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=104654&p=3008141&hilit=humphrey#p3008141

Surrounded on the research list might be able to be removed. No band location, titles, or image were saved, and Surrounded is a very common word/name. It's doubtful that this will ever lead to anything, and has been there for 7 years already.
viewtopic.php?p=2632761#p2632761

Aegyptie can be removed. See description below. Band members in the bio are the same as in the liner notes for the release in question.

I was thinking about buying this on Discogs, but did you get a copy already? It's still active on the list, but the above comment was from back in March and it's showing one sold in March for $5.

I agree, removed. This ties into my plan to clean up the older entries that have no evidence for a release or are otherwise long shots (let's say older than 5 or so years). Many bands were added lacking even a hint of VR, on the off chance that something would be discovered, and if they haven't turned up anything by now, it's fair to assume that absence of evidence is good enough evidence of absence. This of course wouldn't affect bands that do have a confirmed release, but are missing samples.

Seemingly an experimental metal band from New York. Released a CD in 2002. It can be bought for... 300 USD on eBay. Samples needed.

Needs research. - Goliah (United States)

Industrial metal from Fall River, Massachussets, according to eBay, could just be industrial. Released a CD in 1997. CD is on eBay ($99.99) and Deporter Records ($4.99).

I just bought the Goliah CD. When I get it, I'll let you know what it sounds like.

Got the Goliah CD. Sounds exactly like Godflesh with no budget. So it's metal. I have no ability to rip this CD, so I can't really provide samples but as a former Mod - can you trust me and just let BuriedUnborn add it? :)

Guessing that Nosferatu (Argentina) was rejected for not having enough samples, since Ayatapuc said he submitted it 2 days ago, and it's not in the queue, the site, or blacklisted. So, here are the additional links that were found (original post just had 3 pictures of the CD) -

Not certain, though, if this should be classified as a band separate to Imperium and Serpent Sun, or just mentioned on each band's page and not researched further, considered a collaboration between the two bands. Needs proof of VR. Maybe this was available for official download at the time?

Seems like there was some physical product at the time at least. If you look at one of their posts from 2009, they left the following comment,

Spiritual Black
"we have a show tomorrow at 9 in mchenry if you can make it. we'll have 4-song demos available!"

Excellent catch, cheers. I hope you don't mind, but I've restored another user's submission of this, the one that originally made me post the band here. They put a lot of research into it and I think they'll be happy to finally see it on the site.

Thank you so much! It's great to finally see this band on the site. Also my first submitted band here lol.
The guy that uploaded the album on youtube got in contact with the vocalist and got some info. And he said the 4-song demo is available for streaming here: https://www.reverbnation.com/spiritualblack
He said: "You missed the ReverbNation by the way, you would have had the 6-18-09 demo. Four studio songs identical to the 2010 album. Check that site when looking for old 2000s bands that lost their MySpace releases."

Is this valid for the website? We even got a releasing date for it. For what it seems, they had it both in physical format on shows and in ReverbNation.

Needs research. - Exicial (Avellaneda, Buenos Aires, Argentina)

Thrash metal

Band members: Alejandro Ruiz (vocals) (in the old page it's said he plays guitar), David Jeremías Chouza Aguilar (guitar)

the demo 2009 is here and it can be found in several other blogspots:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4YaAe0V6Fk

I don't know if it's the same demo as you can see in this picture (I guess so, even if the artwork is different. This picture starts to appear in 2014. Their FB starts in 2012):

Got the Goliah CD. Sounds exactly like Godflesh with no budget. So it's metal. I have no ability to rip this CD, so I can't really provide samples but as a former Mod - can you trust me and just let BuriedUnborn add it? :)

Alright.

Is the tracklist order on RN the one on the original CD? If so, yes, can be added.

I don't know, RN only presents those 4 tracks. Logically they would be in the same order as the physical release demo, but since we only know about the physical one because of that comment on facebook it's impossible to tell (yet).
But it could be added as a streaming demo from RN with the tracks in that order. If later (hopefully) we find the physical demo it could be added as another version.
Just my thoughts tho, whatever is better for the database. :)

No, RN is not a valid source for discography entries, streaming or otherwise. Sounds like we'll have to wait until the tracklist of the CD release can be confirmed.

These items on the research list are "long shots" that may be getting in the way of bands with potential to be added with a little bit of research, and can be removed:
- Unknown Band (even if found, may end up being considered more rock than metal)
- No Name (Italy) - more likely an incorrect submission for Naname, who are listed.
The following 4 - information too vague/not enough to keep around for a common name and no verified release:
- C.O.V. (Italy)
- Exit (Italy)
- Subway (Italy)
- Flags (Italy)
Stuff on the Amethyst list that there's no good reason to believe is that promising and/or is too vague:
Spoiler: show
- 431
- 7 Deadly Sings
- Barbed Wire Kisses
- Barton
- Be True
- Black Bart
- Brad Blood
- Brazil
- Bridge 22
- Charvelle
- Classified
- Crazy Gang
- Desert Brothers

- ETC
- Expressions
- False Alarm
- Ffrench Persuasion
- Finest
- First Born

Sorry - I meant 'Na Name'.

Also, Nuclear Vomit can be removed. Submitted, and there's nothing more to research with them. Just a matter of judging the music.

On the site already/can be removed:
Loch Ness (Italy) - https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Lochness/111484
Skullriders (before the tape was found people thought that was their name. It's Skullrider, though. https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Sk ... 3540493983 )

Skooldaze - rock.
http://www.arbinet.it/rockfest80/menu_b ... &id_ediz=2
(translated): The genre proposed by SKOOLDAZE is a Hard Rock full of melody, in the wake of historical groups such as Whitesnake and Survivor, but which is strongly influenced by bands made in the USA such as House of Lords, Tiketto, Danger Danger, Blue Murder and The Storm.

Bands on the Italian list that are too vague and should be removed:
K.S., Jesus, Shark, Shout.
Crudelia - rock. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... rudelia%22
Sacrifice (Italy) also too vague/common name/no info.

A.A.D. (Armed and Dangerous) are a Swedish band, but are listed on the main list as US.

Outside of Zygmunt and Malc Macmillan's information about these NWOBHM-related bands, there's not enough to go on and they might as well be removed from the list:
Spoiler: show
- Amnesia
- Astaroth
- Axis (Chesterfield)
- Azrael
- Becky Swan
- Before the War
- Beowolf
- Black Diamond
- Bolero
- Breaking Ice
- Breakout
- Castle
- Cornerstone
- Crossfire
- Crypt
- Easy Action
- Elegy
- Fantasia
- Flare
- Free Spirit (Carlisle)
- Fugitive (Hampton)
- Grace
- Grass
- Hex
- Hostage
- Infidel
- Ishmael
- Madame
- March 3rd
- Moonchild
- Morpheus
- Mutiny
- Narcissus
- Night Queen
- Nova
- Orion (Denny)
- Quadrant
- Savana
- Scavenger
- Scruff
- Sin
- Sneak Preview
- Son of a Bitch (Wiltshire)
- Syndrome
- Tantrum
- Teacher
- The Calling
- The Strays
- Venom (Guernsey)
- Virginia

Also relating to NWOBHM research, early '80s issues of "Sounds" has information on some lesser-known bands, but a lot of what it contains doesn't relate to metal. This link would be useful in the NWOBHM research area of the thread:
https://worldradiohistory.com/UK/Sounds/80s/
Others here might yield some information on obscure bands:

- No Name = really existed. If it's the same band, then it's my (ex) best friend's band. Hc/Punk. If it's the same band.
- C.O.V. = Church of Violence. A quite famous hc/grindcore band from Italy

edit: ah, ok. Naname. Never heard of them. I only know No Name who have nothing to do with metal.
COV (Church of Violence) can be found everywhere on YT or SLSK

For other italian bands cited above, I'll have a look at the "Italian Metal Heroes 1980-1990"

Well, this one can be removed from the list. A user tossed it into the queue before I saw this and it’s been accepted.
