Not about specific bands of this thread -
Spoiler: show
Those are some interesting points, Baldadeath. There are those bootleg labels that profit off of someone's work without consulting the creators, and while some musicians are indifferent about it or are humbled that someone enjoyed the songs enough to go through the effort, I feel a certain amount of criticism for those labels that don't make the effort to do it right by members that can be reached. With this site, that I know of, no one is compensated for their efforts in sorting through the history of the genre besides those involved with the merch proceeds, and it's strictly a labor of love for those like us who find it important to have an all-in-one-place public reference that wasn't around when we were getting into this stuff, and while the music industry was going through its weird regressive phases during the '90s, at which point in my opinion a lot of people were misguided by crappy trends, and suffered by not knowing better than to drink from the shallow, rusty waters of what was readily available. At least from what I've observed, as soon as people didn't have to dig exhaustively to be aware of better music, a lot more people were suddenly fans if it, and nowadays that fact brings bands through nearby cities that I never expected to see live.
I often hear various complaints about the site, but to me for those that appreciate it, and seeing it develop into what it is now, speaking also through personal use of it, it's amazing, and the good far outweighs the points that I've heard brought up from the stances of criticism, or the exclusion of bands that I wish were present. Everything that becomes well-known carries with it the mumblings of onlookers who believe could have done it better, and sometimes can't see beyond their own perspective for the possibility of a greater good. There is always going to be a theme of meeting in a middle ground when something complex and involving many individuals exists, and it's a predictible clash given the often independent and stubborn nature of metal fans. It's really a matter of being willing to occasionally work outside of one's own personal preferences for an outcome that goes far beyond the means of what one mind could yield.
It is a matter of opinion, but to me it's a shame at those times that a closed door is presented when it comes to the documentation of what is our universal language, metal/music in one common place that can offer guidance through its many recesses that in a lifetime can't be fully explored. On the same token, it is awesome when bands and musicians make their contribution and a feeling of collaboration and mutual understanding is present. At the point that I recognized the site as a truly great reference in 2013 (early on there were a lot of missing bands and errors), I've gladly offered up everything that I could from my own learnings, locally to different areas that I've resided and from the years of tape trading, digging for enough necessary info to get the awesome bands that were familiar onto the site that weren't yet. I'm interested as much or more in pieces of raw knowledge/information now as I am in collecting. It's actually the writing of its history that will last beyond my existence here, while items in the personal collection will someday simply find a new owner.
To me it's a privilege to be able to easily hear and learn of bands from around the planet on this site, and no amount of naysaying would change my mind. Will continue to leave here what can be found despite the closed-off mentality that is held by some towards such efforts.

Needs research. - Profetul
Location: Deva (Romania)
Listed genre: Classic Heavy Metal
Years of Activity: ?
Discography: Demo 1996. 3 songs: "Stăpânii (să nu îți uiți durerea)", "Predici murdare", "Rugăciune"

Line up:

Nicu Hada: Vocals / Bass
Sorin Marcu: Guitars
Vasile Stănășel: Guitars
Gabri Pătrășcanu: Drums

Reference 1: Panoramic Radio-Tv #35 (1996). Described as "classic heavy metal"

https://arheo2tv.files.wordpress.com/20 ... -35-26.jpg

Reference 2: Panoramic Radio-Tv #38 (1996). It seems the demo was released as the reviewr say they are "better live than on the demo we received recently":

https://arheo2tv.files.wordpress.com/20 ... ?w=2000&h=

In the same page of Panoramic Radio Tv #35 they talk about Black Hole (with a demo and song titles) and Dirty Shirt's debut demo (1996) titled "Alone": this latter one is described as "progressive metal": can't find any audio source but in their bandcamp there are all the next albums and they are industrial:

https://dirtyshirt.bandcamp.com/album/v ... tered-2000

Well, I found only these issues of Panoramic Radio-Tv, from 1995 and 1996. It would be nice to find the previous years (it started in 1990) to check for more bands.

I didn't cited many other bands found in the music page because I don't even know if they ever released anything (there is no mention) but there are countless bands. If you wanbt to check one by one, I can send the files.... there could be lot of these other mentioned bands who - eventually - recorded something in 1996 or later

Probably the first slovk heavy metal band , founded in 1981. They had no official recordings during their original activity perio, but in 2018, former members of the band recorded a slf-titled album with newly recorded versions of their old songs. It was allegedly released onCD, but the Discogs page is apprently not enough as a proof, so I need moe clear proof of valid release of the CD.
Official Facebook:
https://cs-cz.facebook.com/skupinahalusky/
https://soundcloud.com/halusky

Turns out the band repressed this in 2022 and is available for purchase through the band. Is this valid now?
https://www.discogs.com/release/2473040 ... lu%C5%A1ky

Removed. If you think the music on the release is metal, go ahead.

Compilation appearance: https://www.discogs.com/release/1096260 ... ate-Vol-3-

Both these demos are on youtube, so i guess it's a question of valid release? Both have owners on discogs, but the second one mentions it was only "intended for release". No such language on the first demo.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKOqw8LcZBQ

Well, it says material intended for an EP release. Seems okay.

Estonian band 'Predatory War' has a discogs page but only one release, a compilation appearance. Sounds metal but probably isn't enough to get them added, right?

Correct, that's a sampler/split with more than 6 artists, so not valid.

Filipino band Nuklus has its album available on its facebook page. Metal in some parts, rock in others, too borderline for me.

From the Cali list via powerslave.com archives. Looked at all the dead bands.

Dielab: Not on discogs, and only ever had one unreleased album, so no valid release.

Dystratic: Alt Hardcore with samples: https://archive.org/details/iuma-dystra ... Excuse.mp3

Forgive the day: Found a 2003 demo that sounds like hardcore: https://soundcloud.com/igobyjim/sets/fo ... -demo-2003

DesoLit: appears to only have played live and never put out a CD. Even if they did, they were described as rock n' roll.

Last Day King: Discogs page, needs samples: https://www.discogs.com/artist/8254508-Last-Day-King

Last Day King can be removed. Listed as alternative rock/nu-metal on Discogs, and it's an accurate description based on these 3 songs:
https://archive.org/details/iuma-last_d ... _Stray.mp3

Couldn't find samples offhand for Lift or Refuse, but based on the context clues and the way all of these other bands are, they're probably not worth pursuing.

Powerslave Central Valley bands:

Epidemia: Nu metal
https://music.apple.com/us/album/bienve ... 1690156004
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Yp_wN4 ... aA&index=1
https://www.discogs.com/artist/3141952-Epidemia-6

Kalis: 99% sure this is their discogs. needs samples: https://www.discogs.com/artist/8707072-Kalis-6

Mindtrap: Could only find a single song on the artist's soundcloud, and sounds like nu-metal with some decent riffs: https://soundcloud.com/chad-brummer/proper-disease

Mynalter: Nu-metal: https://archive.org/details/iuma-mynalt ... Walrus.mp3

Sickle: I think this is the one on the website, could be a different one. Discogs say north cali, while powerslave says central valley. Either way, nu-metal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNeQLhJHXE4

Stigmurder: metalcore/nu-metal of the unacceptable variety:
https://music.apple.com/us/album/the-st ... 1231137304
https://www.discogs.com/artist/8003570-Stigmurder

Sundays dilemma: Alt Rock
https://music.apple.com/us/artist/sunda ... 1516014978
https://www.facebook.com/sundaysdilemma/

And finally, Diferential, the one band so far that seems acceptable. Death metal. Here's a listing on discogs with a link to download the album: https://www.discogs.com/release/1349108 ... maged-Life

Bastion (Ukraine) = Бастион from Odessa, Ukraine

Death Sentence (Ukraine) - already mentioned here.

From Phantasmagory webpage and this interview of their guitarist looks like they never recorded anything in studio under this name (even though there is a brief mention of "working on demo").

Quote:
В этом же году ребята решают записать материал, но неожиданно из жизни уходит лидер и идеолог группы, гитарист Виталий Кизилов. После трагедии группа распадается.

My loose translation:

Quote:
Same year, the guys decide to record their material, but band leader guitarist Vitaliy Kizilov dies suddenly. After this tragedy, they disband.

Drovoseki (Ukraine) = Дровосеки from Horlivka, Ukraine

There is a biography and a couple of samples here:
Ain't gonna cry no more
Until it sleeps

They do seem to have a release, but doesn't sound metal enough...

T.V.I.N. (Lithuania) is almost certainly butchered Т.В.И.Н. (T.W.I.N.) from Riga, Latvia.

Their only release is "Полночный скиталец" (Polnochniy Skitalets, Midnight Wanderer), which the source lists as Skitalech Tape 1990.

It's (hard) rock. Full album is below:

Zombie Attack (Moldova) already here. The "Formed in" date there is wrong though, and I don't have reputation to edit. Here is an interview (in Russian) where their guitarist several times mentions 1989 as their founding year.

California Powerslave bands, Chico:

Esoteric: Has a discogs page, but more than likely unacceptable based off the genres and site description as "Hardcore Metal and Rap". https://www.discogs.com/artist/4742569-Esoteric-14

Macabre Erotica: band has a tripod site with samples and downloads available for their music. It's... of poor quality and hard to tell what it actually is. Not sure if this counts as valid release. Metal?
https://macabreerotica.tripod.com/index.html

Pit Friends: Has a song online but appears to be their only studio recording. They mention intending to record a debut album, but i can't find anything.
https://www.soundclick.com/artist/defau ... tent=songs

Reddevildead: Tripod site with music. Sounds too makeshift and hardly metal.
https://rddcoven.tripod.com/id12.html

Say 10: archive of 3 song demo on bandsite. Could go either way on metal-ness, since it has a good part of hardcore in it.

Thanks a lot for helping with pruning these. As Spooky said, a lot of them are probably not worth looking into further, even only based on Discogs tagging/appearances and without samples. In hindsight I kind of regret uncritically importing that powerslave site en masse since it also covers a lot of rock and nu-metal. I did try to weed out more through checking the descriptions there, but Wayback being super sluggish these days didn't make it easy. In summary, we can have an itchy trigger finger with these.

Will check the other open posts in this thread later today. Quite the activity lately, very nice!

4-й дуст (Russia) is a pretty old punk rock / rock / alternative band. Most of their discography is on youtube.

Aliono (Russia) is a Trance DJ. Double-checked that he is indeed from Комсомольск-на-Амуре and not a different Aliono... Music to check out here.

Needs research. - Nutronium Death
Location: New York, New York (probably Brooklyn)

- Not sure yet if they did a demo. Played with quality metal bands like Machine, Vision Purple, Injustice, and Skitzo (misspelled here) at L'amour around 1990.

Nothing known beside this photo and the music style

(Spooky) - "Game Over!.." demo (1992 - track listing: Game Over/ Holy Journey)
https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/ ... C3%A7/4991 (bass)
https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Umut_Toprak/4993 (vocals)

Both tracks are on youtube, so i guess it's a question of validity?

Needs evidence for a valid release/distribution.

Thanks, slon. Can't tell from my phone if it's downloadable, but if it is and is official, it's open for anyone to submit.

Streaming-only.

And finally, Diferential, the one band so far that seems acceptable. Death metal. Here's a listing on discogs with a link to download the album: https://www.discogs.com/release/1349108 ... maged-Life

Sounds more like mallcore/hardcore, actually.

Think I will follow GraveWish's recommendation and wipe everything from that list. If anyone is still interested in checking it with a magnifying glass, PM me and I'll send you the list.

There is a biography and a couple of samples here:
Ain't gonna cry no more
Until it sleeps

They do seem to have a release, but doesn't sound metal enough...

Looks they have a reel-to-reel album and there's some info here:

I totally agree. In fact, I wanted to bring up the possibility of removing them but I was kinda digging going through all that sweet, sweet, mid 2000s internet. Just curious how many bands got cut from purging that list?

Better focus on other bands, Powerslave was checked daily in the mid 2000 for potential additions.

A little more information about the Metallakkord:

https://heavymetalrarities.com/forum/vi ... 1%80%D0%B4

http://rock-n-roll.ru/show.php?file=enc ... 0%A0%D0%94

Some dudes said that they saw their tapes for sale at that time, so they themselves are surprised that not a single surviving copy has yet been found.

Master-tapes were successfully stolen at one time (lolwut?; but it happens).
