From a cursory search, it seems that at least two of those lyricists might be valid entries.

Deleted J.C. Dahl (1788-1857).

Edit: and Hieronymus Bosch (1450-1516).

Edit 2: and 'Albercht Durer' (Albrecht Dürer, 1471-1528).

Edit 3: this one (http://www.metal-archives.com/artists/A._Durer/595189) looks suspicious, credited with 'photography' on this album (http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Et ... ents/44668)...

Yep, that's an Albrecht Dürer. Deleted.

Someone has added to some of my releases' other staff the photographers whose Creative Commons licensed images I've used on the covers, attributing them according to the license permission. Are these additions valid? All images are pre-existing and have not been created for my project. The releases and artists in question:

Sting: http://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Sting/477403

He's credited twice as the lyricist of a The Police cover song. Other than that, no valid entries. Actually, those two aren't valid either. Seeing his profile's been here for four years, I'm a little hesitant about deleting it myself.

Tossed. Good catch.

For future reference, I wouldn't consider the lyricist of a covered song to be a valid credit.

I'm not so sure on this. The only release he's credited on that came out before he died (2005) is from 2003 and it lists him as "the late Zdzisław Beksiński" so something seems up here.

Have you guys thought about a system to "blacklist" these artists?

EDIT: I see this has been asked before in this thread, but hey, it's been a year and a half.

It's been suggested, yeah, and I think it's a good idea. Probably not gonna get implemented anytime soon, though.

You're almost there! This thread is for deleting artist pages... you're requesting a band deletion, in which case you want this thread, from the main Suggestions & Complaints forum: https://www.metal-archives.com/board/vi ... =3&t=65721

It seems like some of the longdead painters listed in the OP are creeping back onto the site. I just finished deleting longdead French painter Gustave Doré (1832-1883), who had had a page since January 2018 and been credited for about 17 albums, a total of 15 bands. All his artwork credits have been moved to the additional notes. If you find any such artists, please file a deletion report or post here... or even delete the artist yourself if your rank permits it.

EDIT: Caspar David Friedrich deleted as well, he was credited for 4 albums and had a page since July 2017.

Deleted Otto Dix as per GearWing's report.
For future reference.

French painter Odilon Redon (1840-1916) (wiki) has an artist page. Credited for the artwork of two releases.

Gustave Doré was back on the site, since last June. Added by a Metal Demon no less...

Edit 1: Artwork of this album; https://www.metal-archives.com/albums/A ... ath/638567, was credited to the wrong John Martin, not the long dead painter/illustrator/engraver.

Edit 2: Removed Vincent van Gogh, back on the site since last February. Also added by a Metal Demon.

Edit 3: Removed Caspar David Friedrich, back since 2019. Also added by a Metal Demon.

Edit 4: Pieter Bruegel the Elder, (back) on the site since last April. Added by, yes a Metal Demon with 112420 points...

Edit 5: Edvard Munch, added this month by one of the Metal Demons mentioned above...

Deleted Theodor Kittelsen, added by one of them Metal Demons, on this album: https://www.metal-archives.com/albums/S ... ess/790847
Edit: same user also added Gustave Doré on three albums...

Also once again deleted Albrecht Dürer, added by a recently appointed Metal Knight, on this album: https://www.metal-archives.com/albums/A ... ign/128215

Dealt with kalervon's reports concerning:
http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Po ... tal/461326

Deleted both artist pages and added a note:
"Cosmos" features excerpts from the writings of Paramahansa Yogananda (1893-1952) narrated by his disciple Rachel Faye Wright aka Sri Daya Mata (1914-2010).

Could you draw Gutterscream's attention to my post? If not, I'll pm him. Thanks.

Deleted Alan Watts, British philosopher (1915-1973). He was mistaken added as lyricist (from Finland) on a Sunniva album where actually an excerpt of one of his narrations was used, and as narrator (from Belgium) on a Pantheist album. https://alanwatts.org/

H. R. Giger obviously shouldn't be removed, but most of his entries on his artist page are ones he had nothing to do with, comparable with artists mentioned in this thread. It would be helpful if the unofficial ones would be labeled as such: "Original artwork (used unofficially)" or something like that. Removing the credits won't help with pointhoarders adding them again.

This matter apparently has been brought up by Giger's representatives and the site's response was "Pffffff". Really professional and encyclopedic, guys!
